The Vikings will be underdogs in their next six games, against the Packers (twice), Bears, Cowboys, Eagles and Chargers, and without several upsets, that could lead to a 1-8 start, TV blackouts and no public support for a new stadium.

If the Vikings take a loss to the Packers at the Metrodome on Sunday into the ensuing bye week, it will be interesting whether they try to trade either cornerback Antoine Winfield or running back Chester Taylor for draft picks in the first three rounds in order to rebuild.

Acquiring wideout Larry Fitzgerald Jr. from the Cardinals could make the Vikings relevant again.

Let's just play hypotheticals here. I would be all for trading Winfield to the Cards (who definitely need a corner) in exchange for Fitzgerald.

I wouldn't. You obviously did not learn anything from the Champ Bailey/Clinton Portis trade. The only good thing is that Charley Walters writing is not worth the paper it is written on.

Don't get me wrong, I love Winfield. But he's no Champ Bailey. And he is in his 9th year.Apples and oranges I think.

A good corner is worth much more than a WR IMO. Champ Bailey was under franchise tag and threating to hold out when he was traded. We have already paided for Winfield's signing bonus. How many years left on Winfield's contract? Why am I even debating things that came from Charley Walters imagination? I still remember Moss for Fitz trade crap that Walters produced.

Look at the difference in Moss from Oakland and NE. I'd say Minnesota is about the same spot as Oakland right now. I doubt there is any player in the league that wants to come here.

I think you are wrong about that.They have a defense that should be good for a couple more years, a Franchise Running back and what should be a very good OL that is under producing. Add a Coach that can find his way out of a , a good QB and a Very good WR like Fitz and this team could be very good next year. I think many players see that this team is only 1 to 3 players away from something that could compete.

I think I had false hope in Childress early on. This season is basically over, unless they somehow turn it around. Maybe Tarvaris is the QB of the future, but right the Vikes' passing offense looks like a pile crap. Sidney Rice looks good, other than that the receivers are average and their QBs are pathetic.

The Vikings need a veteran QB who can actually play football!

A coach who knows how to run an offense would also help.

A veteran WR who can step into a leadership role would be a great addition as well.

Rice is going to be a stud WR someday, Wade played well and Williamson showed excellent hands on his catches and also the one that he caught out of bounds - I think his confidence is back. With Rice displaying his talent and Peterson playing the way he is, the future of this offense is looking bright. It will be interesting to see if Tarvaris can step up and become the QB of the future. If he can't, the Vikings should be able to get one of the stud QBs in the draft.

I don't understand not having Peterson in at the end at all. Childress has to realize that Peterson is the only player that can guarantee him a job for next season - PLAY HIM!

The other thing that is a positive is that the Vikings' 3 losses have come to teams with a combined 9-3 record and they were all games that were winnable so even though they are 1-3, they can take some good things from that. And even though Jackson isn't Favre, he is the starting QB and gives them the best chance to win (the INT-fest in Detroit was an anomoly).

The good news is the tough stretch of games against the Bears, Chargers, Eagles, etc. isn't looking quite as bad anymore, so hopefully they can come together during the bye week (please stay off the boat) and come back strong for the rest of the year.

Isn't that the truth.. Bears 1-3, Eagles 1-3, Chargers 1-3, Vikings 1-3. If they play those games like they have the first 4 games they will have chances in all those games.

Then again, the way they have been coached the first 4 games they will probably lose those by a FG also

If I were the coach here is what I'd do the rest of the way:

QB - TJ, we need to let him play the whole season so we can determine whether he is the future or not.

RB - Peterson, with Chester spelling him. The only excuse for Peterson only having 2 carries in the 2nd half against the Packers would be injury and/or sickness. Since neither is being reported Childress needs to be smacked!

WR - Rice, Williamson and Wade. A rotation of Wade and Williamson, but Rice needs to be out there as much as possible.

TE - Visanthe Shiancoe - Has looked good so far. Over paid for him, but he does look like he has talent.

OL - Cook should be in a rotation with whomever is backing him up.. He is over matched each and every week. I'm going to give Mickinnie a one week pass as it is being reported he had the Sharts all game long

Birk and Hutchinson are the real deal, need to fix the rest.

Defense - More pressure.. Why can't the defensive coordinator see that rushing 4 or 5 isn't the answer on obvious passing downs? WE CANNOT COVER!!!! Bring the pressure!

Chester/AP Redux

Wanted to get you a statistic that we probably didn’t play up enough in today’s coverage of the Packers 23-16 victory.

Just for kicks, we tracked the number of plays Chester Taylor and Adrian Peterson got as they played their first 60-minute game together. As Jim Souhan noted today, Peterson was on the field for 38 percent of the Vikings’ 65 offensive plays. Unofficially, here was the breakdown:

Taylor: 40 plays

Peterson: 24 plays

Together: 1 play

Peterson also got three additional touches on kickoff returns. Nevertheless, the percentage of his offensive plays is sure to produce lively debate during this upcoming bye week. We’ll get you updates this afternoon after we get access to coach Brad Childress and players in the locker room.

But yet every time I see AD in the backfield I forget about how badly Childress has botched the game up until that point because I just know that he's going to start riding him from that play on. Umm, nope.

Now that I (and most fans it seems) have lost all confidence in Childress, I find that it creeps into every way that I evaluate the Vikings. For example:

Tavarius Jackson

Has he looked good so far in his career? Umm, no.

Do most QBs look good in their first five games? Umm, no.

BUT, with the current track record of Childress I am much less prone to cut TJax much slack. I just don't trust Chilly's abiity to evaluate, game plan, etc anymore. And that has a direct carryover effect into what I feel TJax's upside is.

Normally, even if you don't agree with the coach/management, etc. you tend to go with the flow because they simply have more information that you and well, they're the experts. But, once that confidence is lost all hell breaks loose. You don't know what to believe.

In the end, I am reluctant to invest more than this season in Jackson. I just don't trust Childress anymore.

That's what should have happened. Instead Chili ran the bus off the cliff into 6 wins and below land and now it may not come out of it unless they can solve the offense issues and the pass defense issues and it doesn't seem to be improving much.

They'd be fine if we didn't sit back in coverage mode when you know dang well that hasn't worked for 2+ years. I was watching the game with my Dad and told him "watch, they will rush 4 and try to cover".. TD Bears. Get ball back, 3 and out Bears get ball back and I said "watch again, 4 rush and we get beat" BOOM TD Bears When you know a team has no choice but to throw you should be rushing no less than 6.. Hell, I'd rush 7, leave a LB in the middle of the field and send the CB's and safety's back 15 yards and back-pedal. There is no excuse at all allowing anyone behind you when you are playing that crappy prevent defense..

Rushing four didn't cause that. Griese miss read the coverage and route. My point was simple.Our Defense cannot cover, they haven't covered all year on 3rd down and long and I don't see that changing any time soon. With this Defense, the best way to prevent the long TD is to make sure the QB doesn't have time to look deep. Pressure=hurry=good chance of a turnover.I don't care who the QB is, if you give him time to take a nap in the pocket as he waits for a WR to get open they will kill you all day long. pressure, pressure, pressure.
