2007 Minnesota Vikings In-Season Thread (1 Viewer)

Poking around with the stats section on NFL.com and I found an interesting statistic.

The Vikes are dead last in the NFL in plays from scrimmage. They have 771 and the next lowest, Buffalo, has 802.

:D Weird.

When you have Big play after big play who needs to pad the # of plays. ;)

So, Chicago was +3 in turnovers last night (4 to 1 for the Vikes). The stat I heard says that the team with a +3 wins 96% of the time.

The Vikes are doing the improbable. Super Bowl here we come.

I thought TJ looked a little too anxious last night for his first "Prime Time" game. Kind of reminded me of the game in Detroit. The interception off of Ferguson wasn't his fault, the exchange with AD was probably at least partly his fault and the pick that led to the TD was a bad one. That being said, it looked like he was much more patient in the 2nd half by eating the ball instead of forcing bad throws. If this team makes the playoffs, hopefully he won't be so anxious because I don't know that this team could overcome a bad half like that on the road.

Also, probably really bad news in the possible losses of Winfield and Rice for a long period of time.

But in the end, a win is a win.

What's this???
Injuries to Winfield, Rice mar victoryBY SEAN JENSEN

Article Last Updated: 12/18/2007 01:27:53 AM CST

The Vikings have paid a steep price in Monday night's defeat of the Chicago Bears.

Vikings receiver Sidney Rice and cornerback Antoine Winfield didn't complete the game and could be sidelined with serious injuries.

Officially, coach Brad Childress said Winfield has a left shoulder injury and Rice an ankle sprain. But early indications are that Rice may have fractured a bone and Winfield may have torn a ligament in his shoulder.

Rice was carted off the field early in the fourth quarter, while Winfield walked off the field with the help of medical officials with less than a minute remaining in the first half. In the locker room after the game, Rice needed the assistance of a trainer to get to his locker, and his eyes were red. He declined comment, and he struggled to walk to the shower.

Winfield barely could put on his shirt.

"It's so frustrating," Winfield said of his injuries. "I never get hurt. It's just my luck right now."

Winfield suffered the injury on a third-down play. He was all over Bears receiver Muhsin Muhammad on the play, but he said his arm awkwardly twisted back.

Asked if he is nervous about a magnetic resonance imaging, Winfield said, "(Heck) yeah.

"I'm just hoping for the best," he said.

If Rice cannot play, the Vikings most likely would turn to receiver Troy Williamson, who was a healthy scratch Monday.

Asked if he was frustrated to be inactive, Williamson said, "I ain't going to talk about that."

coordinator Darrell Bevell said he isn't sure of Rice's injury, but he said the decision to deactivate Williamson was no "slight" against him.

"I mean, he's done a great job for us. We know we need every guy on the team, but sometimes it just goes back and forth with numbers," Bevell said. "We have all the confidence in the world in Troy."

But the loss of Rice affects their personnel grouping. Williamson plays the same spot as Robert Ferguson, and Rice shares snaps at the outside spot with veteran Bobby Wade.

In other injury news, right tackle Ryan Cook and Ferguson left the game with stomach illnesses. Both returned.

That's why Ferguson said he couldn't finish his long reception, one in which he was stopped at the 1-yard line.

"I didn't have anything to eat, all day. I was playing on fumes," he said. "I was sick."

Surprise, surprise...

Vikings | T. Jackson dingedMon, 17 Dec 2007 20:42:13 -0800ESPN reports Minnesota Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson (leg) suffered a left leg injury during the team's Week 15 game against the Chicago Bears. It appears he is suffering from cramps
It's going to be tough without Rice to stretch the field, but getting Richardson back for the game last night was a definite plus. No matter what happens, it's clear that this run to the playoffs will be sponsored by Pepto Bismol and Tums because they sure are finding ways to keep this wild card spot in dramatic fashion.

Would be awesome if they could pull that off, especially since the SB will be played here in my backyard. ;) Wouldn't that be a nice "Going Away/Welcome To Minny" present for me. lol

I should start a thread on "Post All Online Contests To Win Super Bowl Tickets", cuz that'll likely be the only way I'd be able to get in to see the game. :lmao:

Anybody that was not at the dome last night missed an awsome display of class and sportsmanship by the Vikes. They announced our starting offense and then the last to be introduced.........."the most prolithic rushing duo in Viking history, Adrian Peterson AND Chester Taylor!!!!!!!". Pretty neat to see them both introduced together.

Was it just me or does it seem like Rice wasn't in very often prior to his injury?

It did seem like they called Wade's number a little more than usual, perhaps to get him fired up early against his former team. The difference between him and let's say, Williamson, is that he made good on his opportunities. I'm more worried that Ferguson is going to be called on more in Rice's place- and even though he had the long catch and run last night, he's dropped many easy throws this year and IMO, should've been able to turn that play into 6 pts himself (not that I didn't appreciate the ADP TD).

I half expected to hear about random cars driving off the roads yesterday in Minny when it was announced the Sharper not only made it to Hawaii, but was named a starter.

Yeah, I fully expected Roy Williams to get that spot, but I guess the whole "dirty player" image got in his way.
Dwight Smith has had a better season...(and I'm not hinting that he should have made it).

I almost shot Pepsi out of my nose while driving about 80 on 35W when I heard. I was shocked. In the back of my mind I thought Andy Dufresne was  somewhere...

Exactly what happened.About the same reaction as when Greg Coleman said that Chester Taylor hits the hole faster than AP in the pre game show Monday night.

He was a punter, so he knows things.

You could almost hear Paul Allen thinking "WTF did you just say?" There was that ever so slight pause...
It does appear that way to me as well (that Taylor hits the hole faster) but that is only because AD does a better job of setting up his blocks before deciding where to go.

no matter whats happens the next two weeks, I :goodposting: this season. I think childress is starting to figure this whole nfl head coaching thing out, I would still like to see a couple more shots deep a game but the playcalling is lightyears better this season.

Better than last year.. a touch.. But they have to stop running ADP Middle run 90% of the time on first down. The Defense is sitting there with 8 and sometimes 9 in the box and yet we continue to say HERE WE COME!!!

Sweeps/screen/ play action is what is needed right now on first down until the defense starts to worry about those things and doesn't over sell against the middle run.

Really? The playcalling to me looks almost the same. Execution seems to be a lot better and having AD break off 60 yard runs once in a while seems to disguise the vanillaness. If you think playcalling has gotten better could that be because Childress took himself out of that role this year?

more sweeps and screens are needed period, I thought they run alot of play action as is. Last year they wouldn't even try to throw on first down ever, it was run, run, 3 yard out and punt 75% of the time it seemed like, I havn't seen alot of that, but like Reg said maybe it is because they are executing better.

They're going to lose these next two games.
Why? Because you are already pissed that they won 5 more games than you thought they would?? :pokey: ;)If TJ goes back to the way he played from the Raiders on, and not like Monday's game, they should win this week. The defense should be able to keep Todd Collins in check. All the Vikings Offense/Defense has to do is score 20 points and they should be good to go this week.If the Eagles beat the Saints Sunday afternoon the Vikes would be in with a win and Denver won't matter.

No. Because Washington is playing spirited football and I don't think the Vikes can win on the road in Denver.

That's my point. Now that the've gotten done playing the league's JV teams, they're actually playing a couple decent ones. Denver moreso because they're home field, not because they're very good.

In the last two weeks they beat the Bears and the Giants... and did so in about the same way the Vikings did it. I think the Vikings Rookies got their national Spotlight butterflies out of the way and will play a lot better. The reports say that a lot of the players were so nervous about the game that they didn't eat much heading into it. I say the Defense gets more turnovers than last week, score at least 1 TD, ADP gets at least 1 TD with 100+ yards and the Vikes win 24-13. :pokey:

The offensive line play will determine the outcome of these games.

I don't know why everyone is so afraid of the Redskins. I just don't see it. Control Portis / Cooley, don't turn the ball over multiple times and they will win this game.

Hope to see AD run over Fred Smoot at some point in this game too.

Containing the Skins- not too much of a concern.Containing their ability to shoot themselves in the foot- yet to be seen. They're not beating the Skins with 4 turnovers- or even half that.

The replay of the Monday night game is just starting on the NFL network.

Let's see if Lovie will call a timeout at the end this time.

Good news on Winfield and Rice, both only seem to be sprains, and are questionable this week, although both probably wont play. Hopefully the Vikes will have more than two games left!
