Oh, ok.

I don't think people understand...Warner is not going to start all year...not even close.
I think most people realize this. Seriously, tell me where there is more upside/value than Warner at QB. If he even has three or four weeks like he typically had in the 2nd half of 2007 he'll be money. Do you think Leinart and his $22 (or whatever it was) price tag is a better value? Not sure I'm understanding your logic here. I realize you have a vested intrest (at least message board wise) in Leinart but at some point you have to admit defeat.

:goodposting: Won't happen.

I realize that it's a lost cause, I've never been a LHUCKS basher even though I rarely agree with him. At one time I used to think he had a legitimate opinion, but finally realized he's just full of shat! He tries to invoke arguments in every post, I haven't seen any intelligent logic from any of his posts in the past year or so, it's a shame.

I found that it was a little easier this year compiling a team that I was happy with opposed to previous years. Maybe the players that I am high on were just priced for better value this year. Nevertheless, I tried something different this year. WRs are such a better deal than RBs in this format. I took flyers on the cheapest starting RBs I could stomach while going overboard with a quality WRBC plan. Hopefully I will stick around for a few weeks. So here is what I ended up with:

QB - Jon Kitna - 14

QB - Jay Cutler - 14

QB - Kurt Warner - 5

RB - DeAngelo Williams - 15

RB - Chris Johnson - 14

RB - Maurice Morris - 11

RB - Ricky Williams - 8

RB - Steve Slaton - 1

WR - Marques Colston - 30

WR - Anquan Boldin - 26

WR - Calvin Johnson - 25

WR - Santonio Holmes - 24

WR - Brandon Marshall - 23

WR - Bryant Johnson - 9

WR - Steve Breaston - 1

TE - Owen Daniels - 19

TE - Dustin Keller - 2

PK - John Kasay - 2

PK - Matt Prater - 1

TD - Tennessee Titans - 3

TD - New York Jets - 2

TD - San Francisco 49ers - 1

ETA: There is going to be a lot of the same players on a very high percentage of teams.

TE - Alge Crumpler - 11

PK - Shayne Graham - 4

PK - Nate Kaeding - 4

TD - Minnesota Vikings - 8

TD - Dallas Cowboys - 5

-------------------------------------------------------

Prolly too weak at RB, and too much spent at K and Def, but oh well. My strategy was to pick a few players I think are in for big years (MJD, BMarshall), a few players with bust out potential (Ginn, Miller, DAW), and of course the impossible to ignore values (Ricky, Muhammed, Bryant, Mason).

Bulger, Rivers, and Schaub are the 3 QBs I've been in hunting in all of my drafts this year as guys who will significantly beat their preseason values/projections.

Here's mine. Looks a lot like some of the other teams.

QB - Tony Romo - 23

QB - Kurt Warner - 5

QB - Matt Ryan - 4

RB - Clinton Portis - 33

RB - Thomas Jones - 21

RB - Maurice Morris - 11

RB - Ricky Williams - 8

RB - Ray Rice - 4

RB - Steve Slaton - 1

WR - Brandon Marshall - 23

WR - Jerricho Cotchery - 23

WR - Steve Smith - 23

WR - Derrick Mason - 12

WR - Kevin Walter - 6

WR - Derek Hagan - 4

TE - Tony Gonzalez - 23

TE - Ben Utecht - 5

TE - Dustin Keller - 2

PK - Nate Kaeding - 4

PK - Kris Brown - 2

TD - Minnesota Vikings - 8

TD - New England Patriots - 5

Hawk Fan, your roster looks eerily close to mine, except on defense. This is my first year doing this and I have no idea what strategy to employ or what makes up the winning teams. So I tried the math approach and tried optimizing the most projected points. It looks like you did the same thing. You just stuck to the optimization more, while I fiddled a bit. I hope this strategy works.

QB - Tony Romo - 23

QB - Kurt Warner - 5

QB - Matt Ryan - 4

RB - Clinton Portis - 33

RB - DeAngelo Williams - 15

RB - Ricky Williams - 8

RB - Ray Rice - 4

RB - Steve Slaton - 1

WR - Marques Colston - 30

WR - Calvin Johnson - 25

WR - Steve Smith - 23

WR - Santana Moss - 14

WR - Derrick Mason - 12

WR - Kevin Walter - 6

WR - Derek Hagan - 4

TE - Kellen Winslow Jr - 28

TE - David Martin - 1

PK - Nate Kaeding - 4

PK - Mike Nugent - 1

Yup, lots of similarities here. I wasn't very scientific about it, just looked for "values" across the board to get a balanced team and tried to avoid too many bye weeks together (though Romo and Portis in Week 10 could be tough if I make it that far). I'll be curious to see which players are on the most teams. I'm surprised Matt Ryan is popping up so frequently, though he made sense to me as a cheap starter in a best ball format.

wasting a valuable roster spot on a player that you know wont be playing all year is not sound strategy.
Do you think Leinart and his $22 (or whatever it was) price tag is a better value?
No, obviously not. Where did I imply that or are you just trying to argue here?
I realize you have a vested intrest (at least message board wise) in Leinart but at some point you have to admit defeat.
 , I could care less what happens here although I do believe Leinart will be a force in this league before it's over...I could care less if that's an unpopular stance right now.

Changed this like ten times leading up to the buzzer but here is your chicken dinner:

Eli Manning $15

Jay Cutler $14

Brian Westbrook $54

Reggie Bush $33

Ricky Williams $8

Ray Rice $4

Fred Jackson $4

Steve Slaton $1

Calvin Johnson $25

Brandon Marshall $23

Jerricho Cotchery $23

Santana Moss $14

Derek Hagan $4

Courtney Taylor $3

Steve Breaston $1

Alge Crumpler $11

Anthony Fasano $3

Dustin Keller $2

Phil Dawson $3

Matt Prater $1

Buffalo Bills $3

Miami Dolphins $1

Killed me last year, so this season I made sure to avoid bye week conflicts, not just amongst each position but throughout the entire roster. On any given bye week I will only be missing one of my "top" 7 guys (Calvin 4, Cotchery 5, Crumpler 6, Westbrook 7, Marshall 8, Bush 9, Moss 10). Eli and Cutler are also off weeks 4 and 8, but those are also the weeks that have six NFL teams on bye so hopefully everyone else has at least some players missing those weeks. Besides, they can cover for each other anyway so I shouldn't miss them.

Biggest hits will be when the top two RB's are on bye, but in week 7 when Westy is on bye, the only other player I'll be missing is Breaston, and in week 9 Bush is the only player I have on bye. So at least I've maximized my opportunity to cover for those guys when they're out of the lineup.

I kept trying to fit Warner in because I thought (like everyone else) that he was such a great value, but I never liked the way my team turned out with him in there. Like I mentioned earlier, the uncertainty of his holding on to the starting job almost forces you to take a 3rd QB if you tried to pair him with a Brees or a Romo, etc. (I doubt most teams will make it through weeks 9 or 10 without a QB), and that is something I didn't want to do. Eventually decided that although he may be a steal at just $5, I could put that $5 to better use elsewhere.

I was banking on there not being any week 1 cuts, like in years past. If I can survive the first 4 weeks and get S Smith back, lookout.

Probably changed my entry like 20 times.

QB - Aaron Rodgers - 15

QB - David Garrard - 14

QB - Kurt Warner - 5

RB - LaDainian Tomlinson - 60

RB - Chris Johnson - 14

RB - Ricky Williams - 8

RB - Ray Rice - 4

RB - Steve Slaton - 1

WR - Calvin Johnson - 25

WR - Brandon Marshall - 23

WR - Steve Smith - 23

WR - Ted Ginn - 13

WR - Courtney Taylor - 3

TE - Anthony Fasano - 3

TE - Dustin Keller - 2

PK - Kris Brown - 2

PK - Mike Nugent - 1

TD - Buffalo Bills - 3

TD - New Orleans Saints - 2

Comments

QB - Went with FBG QBBC of Garrard/Rogers. Couldn't pass on Warner for $5, High reward/ Low risk.

RB - Wanted LT2 for consistency. CJ3 was for homerun ability. The rest are value plays that are on 80% of rosters. I thought of handcuffing LT2 with J Hester, did anybody do that?

WR - Took a chance there wouldn't be cuts week one, oops! Marshall and S Smith, seemed like steals at their prices. C Taylor should be a decent PPR fill-in for the first four week, hopefully. If I can survive to week 5 my WR will be scary good.

TE - Daniels seemed like good value. Hopefully either Fasano or Keller pan out.

PK - See ball, kick ball

D/ST - Went with FBG D/STBC

Went back and forth between CJ at RB and another WR. Overall I like my squad, especially my RB core.

Is there a link where we can see our team?

Thanks for the link. Here's what I got:QB - Jay Cutler - 14QB - Jake Delhomme - 12QB - Kurt Warner - 5RB - Steven Jackson - 50RB - Clinton Portis - 33RB - Chris Johnson - 14RB - Ricky Williams - 8RB - Steve Slaton - 1WR - Brandon Marshall - 23WR - Jerricho Cotchery - 23WR - Steve Smith - 23WR - Derrick Mason - 12WR - Kevin Walter - 6WR - Derek Hagan - 4TE - John Carlson - 4TE - Anthony Fasano - 3TE - Robert Royal - 2TE - Dustin Keller - 2PK - Kris Brown - 2PK - Jason Hanson - 1TD - New England Patriots - 5TD - Buffalo Bills - 3Total value: 250 QBs: I toyed around with a big name (Romo or Brees) here but didn't like the drop-off in their bye weeks. Hopefully one of my three can put up top 5-10 numbers each week. I may regret not taking a Brees/Warner/Ryan combo here.RBs: I'll need a healthy Jackson throughout the year but like the fact I'm not seeing him on many other teams. Should distinguish my team from most if he produces. Portis seems to be on a lot of teams as he was good value at $33. Toyed with going Portis, McFadden, Bush as my top 3 but didn't like the RBBC in Oakland.WRs: I'll need to survive week 1 with both Marshall and Smith on suspension and only 4 WRs going for me this week. I like Mason, Walter and Hagan in a PPR format.TEs: I really wanted to spend big here on a good TE but after playing around with my roster decided I gave up too much elsewhere. At 1.5 PPR this is one area I don't like on my team. Probably would change it. Oh well, hopefully one of these puts up decent numbers from week to week.Ks: Enough saidDEF: Like NE's schedule this year.Good luck all!

Risky....if Romo, LT, or Westbrook go down with an injury...ouch...
If your team catches the injury bug, you won't win this thing, no matter how much depth you have. Great team.

Everyone knows Warner won't be the quarterback for the full season, but what if he is. What if Arizona actually wins and is contending for the playoffs. Crazy, but what if. Took huge risk at QB to load up at RB and WR. As soon as Warner is benched, I am toast. But otherwise I have a shot.

Thx MOP. I knew LT was too expensive but I didn't think a lot of teams would have him due to his price. His consistency and schedule was too much to pass up for me. I'll need one of my wr's to work out and this is probably where I'll stumble.

Romo Tony 23

Cutler Jay 14

Warner Kurt 5

Portis Clinton 33

Bush Reggie 33

Williams Ricky 8

Slaton Steve 1

Fitzgerald Larry 35

Marshall Brandon 23

Moss Santana 14

Walter Kevin 6

Hagan Derek 4

Bryant Antonio 2

Breaston Steve 1

Henderson Devery 2

Winslow Kellen 28

Fasano Anthony 3

Dawson Phil 3

Brown Kris 2

Bryant Matt 2

Patriots 5

Bills 3

Total team strength (using Dodd's projections, slightly modified): 4008

"Starters" Strength: 2265.

Used the projection dominator for my stats and split things to weight Dodd's 80% and all the rest equally at 5%. Herman is the bomb for K, so I use his data at that position. My team was in the top 10 in total points scored going into the finals last year (although R Bush and AD tanked for me with their injuries at the finish), and this team looks to be even stronger than that one was on paper.

Totally on board with the quantity idea on WR's, and expanded it to PK's this year. Last year I had 11 WR's and did quite well, but didn't feel as confident with just 2 QB's on the roster and I eventually got hurt with just 3 RB's available. Why some folks load up on high quality RB's that cost a boatload is just beyond me, since you leave a lot of money on your bench every week that way. I also believe strength at the TE position is critical to success, since they get 1.5 PPR. We'll see how much the vanilla flavor of my team hurts if I make it to the end, but there may be a couple of guys that can still separate me from the field.

We'll see how the injury train rolls this year, hopefully I have enough overall depth to keep the wheels on!

Now that the contest is closed, I can't find where to see my team. I know most of the players and wanted to post the team. Anyone point me in the right direction?

Last minute effort, probably too heavy on studs and not enough depth.

The Contest is officially closed. So here is what I ended up with:QB - Jon Kitna - 14QB - Jay Cutler - 14QB - Kurt Warner - 5RB - DeAngelo Williams - 15RB - Chris Johnson - 14RB - Maurice Morris - 11RB - Ricky Williams - 8RB - Steve Slaton - 1WR - Marques Colston - 30WR - Anquan Boldin - 26WR - Calvin Johnson - 25WR - Santonio Holmes - 24WR - Brandon Marshall - 23WR - Bryant Johnson - 9WR - Steve Breaston - 1TE - Owen Daniels - 19TE - Dustin Keller - 2PK - John Kasay - 2PK - Matt Prater - 1TD - Tennessee Titans - 3TD - New York Jets - 2TD - San Francisco 49ers - 1ETA: There is going to be a lot of the same players on a very high percentage of teams.
I never thought I'd say this, but you have too much depth at WR.
My plan is to have 4 WR's scoring every week using the Flex position. WR's cost half as much as a RB that will score the same amount of points. But.....the RB's I selected have to work out to make this thing fly.

It looks like there are so many of us that went Marshall/Smith that it won't be the deciding factor of who gets cut week 1.

I never thought I'd say this, but you have too much depth at WR.
Almost no such thing. Even the good WR's have off weeks, and the WR's typically post the biggest numbers as a group. Your core RB's should offer consistency, and you need the ability to have 4 big numbers from your WR's.

Well, I thought I had a pretty good lineup- then I read Verbal Kint's post in this thread re: the stud TE; oh well, it's still fun, and should be competitive.
Don't believe it. While the 1.5 PPR helps, it's a waste to budget all that money on a top TE. Look at the top 10 finishers from last year. 50% of them had low cost TE's on their roster. The guy who came in second only budgeted $2 towards his TE's. Verbal Knit has no clue what he is talking about. You will be fine.

I like my team alot just because it is alot different than most if I make it to week Three look out!!!!!!

Risky....if Romo, LT, or Westbrook go down with an injury...ouch...
If your team catches the injury bug, you won't win this thing, no matter how much depth you have. Great team.
Totally agree. That's probably why our teams look so similar.QB - Tony Romo - 23

Agreed. I reached the same conclusion without even consideriing last year's results.

I feel good knowing that my squad (post 372) is "philosophically similar" to your squad (RB consistency, strength at WR) given your historical performance in the contest. I chose not to invest heavily in TE1 and QB2 as you did, so that I could could have "even richer" WR and flex pools than your squad (I hope). Good luck.

Thanks for the help.

Here is the team I submitted, I'm worried about week 4 but if I get past that I might be able to hang around for a while:

I took a little different approach this year by trying to avoid late BYE weeks for my better players. I just missed the cut in the later bye week last year. This means I bypassed some of the studs. This will probably keep me from going the distance but I am hoping it keeps me in longer. I also tended to try to avoid RBBC situations and probably could have gone with one more RB vs WR but there seemed to be more value at WR. Went with some flyers for WR as they helped me last year several times. Booker was a cheap flyer for when Westy gets injured. Upped the TE to Daniels at the last second and dropped TB DEF down to SF DEF to get a more consistent score at TE. Overall, a little bit more of a defensive approach to avoid some situations. To win this, you really need to take a more aggressive approach and hope the real studs don't get hurt.

Went with the QBBC trio + Warner (nice value), and gambled heavily on the top RBs actually performing. I've always played this as a hit or miss contest, and you have to gamble somewhere....
