Even so, it will be tough. Let's say you roll with 6 WR's, all with different bye weeks. That means that just about every week between weeks 4-10, one of them will be on bye. That leaves you with 5 WR's. Three of them must start, and often the flex is used on a 4th WR. Are you that confident with the six you have that each week, 4 out of the active 5 will perform well enough to keep you afloat? Either you spread your money around, so that you have a couple of WR's who are no guarantee to put up points, or you loaded up on WR's leaving a glaring weakness somewhere else. Not saying it can't work, of course, but carrying <7 WR's would worry me a bit.

Ward and spent his $5 on Kurt Warner to mitigate risk of losing Romo, even though I had Matt Ryan. I am banking on my flex score coming from WR/TE, so I was willing to cut RB depth to sure up QB depth.

I noticed that a lot of the teams that went deep last year had a stud QB. Manning for $27 was a no-brainer for me. I also noticed that many of the top teams last year had very cheap backup QBs. So rather than spend double digits for a quality backup, I thought it made more sense to go cheap. Warner should get me through Manning's bye and he actually has the potential to outscore Peyton in any given week. I also considered Matt Ryan as my QB2, but he doesn't have the upside of Warner. All I really need is for Kurt to last a few weeks and for Manning to play like Manning. Brees at $23 would've been my second choice at QB1.

I immediately honed in on the Bush/MJD/Portis trio at RB. Portis seemed like a great value at $33. Bush and MJD will both score a decent amount of points and they both have breakout potential. I think MJD is a Fred Taylor injury away from top 5 numbers. Given Taylor's age and history, that's a very realistic scenario. I initially had Ray Rice as my RB4, but I swapped him for Ricky today. Ricky seemed too good to pass up at just $8. I suspect most people will find room for Slaton on their roster. I considered it, but in the end I felt that the roster spot was better used elsewhere despite the obscenely low price tag. I couldn't imagine Slaton contributing many games given that I already had four superior backs. Some of the other backs I considered: Felix Jones, DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart, Willie Parker. All good values IMO.

I don't believe in spending top dollar on WRs in best ball leagues. Nevertheless, I knew that I needed to get at least one top 15-20 type. It came down to Santonio Holmes at $24 vs. Calvin Johnson at $25. I liked both values, but upside won out. Calvin has the type of upside to carry you in this thing. Santana Moss was a monster value at just $14. I think he was something like the 33rd most expensive WR. Great value for a proven player with top 15-20 potential. I picked him in my first pass at this thing and never once took him off my roster. I like Ginn and Bruce as cheap breakout candidates. Reggie Williams should be pretty solid. Randle El at $4 gives me a boring veteran who should catch 40-50 balls this season. DeSean Jackson, Demetrius Williams, and Antonio Bryant are cheap big play WRs who should contribute their fair share of big games. I like Jackson to lead all rookie WRs in receiving yards. Add it all together and you have nine wideouts who could conceivably go for 100 yards and a score on any given Sunday.

TE was a tough spot for me. I toyed with the idea of Winslow before giving heavy consideration to Zach Miller. In the end, I decided to compromise and get Shockey for $18. For only three dollars more than it would've taken to buy the unproven Miller, I got a guy who's about as safe as you can get at the TE position. I would've liked to have backed him up with another potential breakout player. I tried hard to find room for Marcedes Lewis, but I couldn't fit his $8 cost into my plan. I considered Fasano for $3, but ultimately settled on Dustin Keller for $2. I know you're playing against the odds when you gamble on a rookie TE, but I think he's a special talent and he's one of the few TEs with big game potential on par with Shockey's.

At PK I grabbed two cheap vets with non-overlapping byes and good job security. I took three defenses. I never intended to spend $5 on my defenses, but I had a couple bucks left over from the other positions.

Overall, the odds of a person winning a significant amount of money in this contest are close to zero. It will take more than great planning to win this thing. It will take a lot of luck. My goal was to give myself a realistic chance of stud scoring at every starting position. I think I accomplished that goal while minimizing risk.

I actually think very few teams will have Manning this year. For $4 less you could have Brees or Romo who are likely to put up similar, if not better, numbers. Manning has the early bye going for him, which may be worth the extra $4, but I still think we'll see a lot more Brees and Romo than Manning on rosters this year. If Manning has a huge year (45 TD's or so) this could be a difference maker.And for the record, I can't imagine anyone would spend $42 on Tom Brady. No matter what you do, you're going to end up with some $1 players. I can't help thinking that a third $1 defense is more likely to provide ponts than nearly any $1 RB, or WR unless it's a handcuff situation (even though I did throw $1 at Breaston).

For only three dollars more than it would've taken to buy the unproven Miller, I got a guy who's about as safe as you can get at the TE position. I would've liked to have backed him up with another potential breakout player. I tried hard to find room for Marcedes Lewis, but I couldn't fit his $8 cost into my plan. I considered Fasano for $3, but ultimately settled on Dustin Keller for $2. I know you're playing against the odds when you gamble on a rookie TE, but I think he's a special talent and he's one of the few TEs with big game potential on par with Shockey's. At PK I grabbed two cheap vets with non-overlapping byes and good job security. I took three defenses. I never intended to spend $5 on my defenses, but I had a couple bucks left over from the other positions.Overall, the odds of a person winning a significant amount of money in this contest are close to zero. It will take more than great planning to win this thing. It will take a lot of luck. My goal was to give myself a realistic chance of stud scoring at every starting position. I think I accomplished that goal while minimizing risk.

I focused most of my money on my "starters" and sacrificed some depth. I figure you need to get lucky to win this and all you can do is put the best team on the field.

QB's score lots of points, I think Schaub is in for a HUGE year and combined with Romo will ensure that I get a good score from my QB week in and week out. Romo has a week 10 bye but according to the QB SOS Schaub has a good matchup that week. Was thinking of adding Warner, but 1) ran out of roster spots, and 2) I think he eventually gets replaced by Leinart.

I think Jones will be in for a big year but at the last second I got nervous about him and LJ and decided to take Turner who I think has more upside than Jones and a solid contributor in Portis. I think most people will have Chris Johnson and Slaton. Booker was the best $2 RB that fit into the budget.

Again was looking at the best starters I could find. Had a thought of switching to a Cotchery, Calvin, Smith and Holmes instead of Edwards/Johnson/Smith and Ginn, but I'm not sold on Calvin, and I have Cotchery and Holmes in a bunch of leagues already and it just didn't fit in bye week wise. Hopefully Ginn can hold me over until Smith comes back. I may be a little week on flex but am thinking that Edwards and Johnson and Smith are all capable of putting up huge games that will more than offset a weak flex. Plus since it's PPR I think Ginn will come up nicely. Bryant was again the best $2 player I could find.

All in all I like my team. I went soft on depth and strong on starters. In the past I've gone strong on depth and I feel like I just didn't have enough each week, barely making the cut.

I actually think very few teams will have Manning this year. For $4 less you could have Brees or Romo who are likely to put up similar, if not better, numbers. Manning has the early bye going for him, which may be worth the extra $4, but I still think we'll see a lot more Brees and Romo than Manning on rosters this year. If Manning has a huge year (45 TD's or so) this could be a difference maker.And for the record, I can't imagine anyone would spend $42 on Tom Brady. He is probably the most overpriced player in the contest.

Brees was a nice value and Romo should be solid, but neither offers the combination of upside and reliability that Peyton does. He never misses a game and he throws for 30 TDs every year. He also has the type of monster games that can carry you to a championship in a contest like this. You're going to need that monster game potential if you survive into the final round.

Don't believe it. While the 1.5 PPR helps, it's a waste to budget all that money on a top TE. Look at the top 10 finishers from last year. 50% of them had low cost TE's on their roster. The guy who came in second only budgeted $2 towards his TE's. Verbal Knit has no clue what he is talking about. You will be fine.

Dude, why the hate? I wasn't bashing his team, he just commented on my strategy. There's not one winning formula.

QB: I had Peyton for awhile but his "injury" spooked me and I like NOs offense this year, plus I saved $4. If Warner and Ryan can post one "high week" outside of Brees' bye they will pay for themselves.

RB: I love Portis' value, Lewis will be better than last year and the rest is FBG "value" chalk.

WR: Go big or go home (or both). I think my flex could just as easily be a RB or TE most weeks so I'm looking to get 3 top WR scores each week with my 3 stud WRs. Galloway is great value as a "top" backup/flex. I clearly have NO depth but I'm hoping to stay injury-free. Winning this thing takes guts AND luck...

TE: Miller is my "STARTER" but I wanted at least two "backups" as TE scoring can be streaky. I even had 4 TEs at one point.

K: I sacrifice roster spots for value and depth. I should average 7+ points/week for minimal $$$.

DEF: See K. NE has a great schedule but DEF scoring is so random in these formats I figue I'm in for 10+ points/week guaranteed.

I like this - it's not the same players, but the overall strategy is very similar to mine (replace Rodgers and Garrard with Eli and Cutler, replace Gore with Westbrook, replace Boldin with Calvin, etc.) TE and K will probably be your downfall though... actually, just noticed this but I think Gore and Bush are both on bye week 9. That will probably be your downfall...

Went with 3 QBs, each with injury history but with big upsides. At RB I opted for the Jacksonville running tandem with some supporting cast who I think could explode for a few big games. At WR, I love Megatron and Santonio this year. If Steve Smith stays healthy after his suspension, I like my WR chances. Took a couple of cheap options at TE and D which could end up being my ultimate downfall.
