2008 MLB Trade Deadline Thread (1 Viewer)

I'm just puzzled why the Nats would want to get rid of Lannan. He's a decent young pitcher who can't be costing them that much.

From the MLB trade blog:

With the three-way deal between the Pirates, Red Sox, and Marlins falling through, an MLB.com source says that the Rays are going to acquire right-handed hitting outfielder Jason Bay for Minor League prospects including shortstop Reid Brignac and right-hander Jeff Niemann. The Rays have not confirmed the deal.--Bill Chastain Posted on July 31, 2008 at 2:57 PM

Rays, IMO, just became a serious contendor. Ive been saying all along they needed one more top hitter to make the playoffs and they just got him.

Gotta figure Jack Wilson gets moved soon if this trade is real.

I just talked to a guy IN the Trop...Friedman is standing in the hall talking on his cellphone...sounded like to this guy that Pitt didn't want Neiman!

:lmao:

That's what I had heard prior to the MLB blogger posting the Brignac/Niemann package. It seemed like Pitt was deadset on holding out for Wade Davis.

Pretty pissed that the Braves decided to keep Ohman despite 10 teams being interested... with that many teams, someone had to offer a decent prospect

Well that was rather uneventful.
Pretty much my thoughts exactly. I thought we'd see some mid level pitching move or maybe the Rays do something interesting. Brian Fuentes didn't move? Did Daisy?

Phils postgame says that the Nats released LoDuca and Felipe Lopez.
They thought they'd get a nibble on either one (esp. LoDuca) but the market for these two was dry as a bone. With someone else paying their salaries, they might become a little more attractive.Good news is that it kicks off the Emilio Bonifacio era

I'd like to see the Tigers get LoDuca if the Nats take a _Pu-Pu platter back.
