When I look to make predictions, one of the first things I look at is the ???? on the team.
New York: The defense should remain among the league's best. The running game lost a key member from last year, but had depth, so should be fine. The passing game has been inconsistant in recent years, and lost both top WR's. While NY remains a dangerous team who could make noise, it seems unrealistic to project more then 9-10 wins with such a huge ???in the recieving corps.
Dallas: One of the league's biggest enigmas. Unstoppable in September/October, beating themselves in Nov/December. Can Romo come up big in a big game? Can the defense? They've replaced T.O. with a relative unknown. They have terrific depth at RB, and a decent, but uninspired defense. Could win 6, could win 12..neither would surprise me.
Washington: OK...they've tried to address D-line issues, but still lack playmakers. The QB should be improved, but still lacks a high caliber O-line. They have what many consider the weakest WR2 in the NFL, although if the 2nd year guys come around they may have decent depth. There is not one single unit on this team that looks inspiring. A classic .500 team playing in a tough division.
Philly has gone deep into the playoffs 5 times in 7 years...they know how to win. A top ranked defense returns almost entirely intact, and should be even better considering how young they are at most positions. The WR crew is very deep, and has at least one playmaker, but might still lack the classic #1. A big ??? for Westbrook, but the team addressed the position early in the draft. There is tremendous depth behind what could be a dominant O-line. In short...with no serious ??? on this squad, and depth on BOTH lines, it's hard to see the Eagles winning less then 8-9 games, and very easy to see them racking up a lot more should McNabb and Westbrook both stay healthy.
I see the division as:
Philly 11 - 5
New York 10 - 6
Dallas 9 - 7
Washington 7 - 9
Dallas and Washington would probably be playoff teams in another division. Philly or New York would probably earn a first round bye in anaother division. This remains one of the best, if not the best, divsion in football.
