2009 rookie drafts (1 Viewer)

I think it's a good class and I think people who sell their picks in PPR will regret it. I agree that the class is a little short on obvious superstar type talents, but it runs about 10 deep with solid prospects and there are a few 2nd-4th round guys who could be gems ala Greg Jennings, DeSean Jackson, and Eddie Royal.

The only thing that sticks out to me is the lack of a clear, bankable RB1 or RB2 in this class. I would gladly trade any of these RBs for someone like Jonathan Stewart or Marshawn Lynch. There are some guys in this group with nice upside, but one who looks like a 100% lock to hit.
Not even Wells and Moreno?
I disagree with this. Especially Lynch who i think is very overrated and always has been.

Pretty lofty company he's put in there! Is it valid, from those who have watched him play?
Seems like a bit of a stretch. Sometimes when you watch a prospect, you have a very good idea of what type of player he's going to be in the NFL. Shonn Greene is like that for me in this class. I think the range of potential outcomes for his NFL career is pretty narrow. He'll be somewhere between Ladell Betts and Rudi Johnson. Not a superstar, but not a bust and potentially a serviceable starter.

Chris Wells is a different beast. I think the range of potential outcomes for his NFL career is very wide. I can envision him being anything between a total bust and an elite FF back. There are times when he looks dominant, but there are also some risk factors. He's not exceptionally explosive, he's long-legged and he takes a lot of big hits because he runs a upright and seeks contact. My hunch is that he'll be a solid NFL back who might spend a lot of time on the sidelines nursing injuries.

The volatility might steer me away from Wells in my drafts next year, but he does have a big upside.

To each his own. I don't think any of the four RBs expected to go in the first round this year (Wells, Moreno, McCoy, and Spiller) are stone cold locks to be solid players in the NFL. I would take Jonathan Stewart and Marshawn Lynch over all of them.

Any thoughts at QB on Harrell of Texas Tech?

Is it that he's a system QB with an exceptional WR in Crabtree or is he legit?

We'll have to agree to disagree. I'd rank them Stewart, Wells, Moreno and Lynch based on talent. Only reason Lynch is in the conversation imo is that he is locked into a starting job. But i'm underwhelmed every time i watch him play.

I think you're selling Lynch short. He was a great college player and a top 15 pick. He's not a home run threat, but he's elusive and he runs with great power. He's going to be a contributor in the league as long as he stays healthy and motivated. I'll take that over a bunch of flawed, unknown prospects. I actually think Moreno is sort of like a poor man's Lynch. He reminds me of a hybrid of Lynch and Cadillac without Lynch's power and Cadillac's jukes. I think he can be very effective on a good team, but I don't see the dynamic qualities of a can't miss prospect.

I'm surprised its not talked about more, but TT's o'line averages 6'5" and 336 lbs....yes averages. Graham Harrell can make a cup of tea back there. I think he is a system QB. Crabtree on the other hand is very gifted.

I think Lynch was overdrafted because of the weak RB class that year. He's the type of player that does everything well but nothing outstanding. Very average NFL RB imo. He and Moreno are close but feel Wells is clearly superior.
