I'm always curious about this list each year. It's been discussed on this board how the contract year theory may be a myth, but there's no denying that these guys will be motivated for this season, and I think (IMO) contract year players are more likely to play through injury which can be a big factor for your team. Thoughts?

Kyle Boller, Ravens

Jeff Garcia, Buccaneers

Rex Grossman, Bears

J.P. Losman, Bills

Kurt Warner, Cardinals

Tatum Bell, Lions

Correll Buckhalter, Eagles

Steven Jackson, Rams

Brandon Jacobs, Giants

Maurice Morris, Seahawks

Darren Sproles, Chargers

Ricky Williams, Dolphins

Drew Carter, Raiders

Donald Driver, Packers

Lee Evans, Bills

Jabar Gaffney, Patriots

T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Bengals

Bryant Johnson, 49ers

Shaun McDonald, Lions

Amani Toomer, Giants

Nate Washington, Steelers

Roy Williams, Lions

Roydell Williams, Titans

Jeff King, Panthers

L.J. Smith, Eagles

To me, Brandon Jacobs sticks out like a sore thumb on that RB list, in terms of being motivated to take that extra step in getting back on the field Sunday. Big year for him. His career could take two very different paths based on what he does in '08.

I agree, I love Jacobs. :goodposting: Then again, I'm admittedly biased..

I really do not see that being in a contract year will have any effect on any of the QBs or RBs (except Brandon Jacobs). Possibly Bell and Losman may get the playing time to show they can carry the loads for new teams.

The WR corps is a different story.

Evans and Roy Williams will strik it rich - regardless of the year they have (unless injured)

Houshmandzedeh may play himself into a huge contract. Driver will be playing for the length of contract and money.

Bryant Johnson may play himself into a long term deal. THe same can be sid about Roydell Williams.

The rest may just be playing to show they are worthy of playing again next year.

Is Driver's contract through this season or next...I am seeing he was signed to an extension in 2006 thru 2009.

Looking at this it looks like 2009 would be his contract year

According to updated contract information listed on the NFL Players Association Web site, Driver will make a base salary of 950,000 this season under the new deal, which also is likely to include an undisclosed amount of bonus money. According to the site, Driver's base salary will jump to $2.7 million in 2007, $2.9 million in 2008 and $3.9 million in 2009.

Evans and Willams yes, but Toomer? I would think Issac Bruce money would be his ceiling, and even that is probably out of reach.

 He will be 35 when the 09 season begins. Hasn't had more than 60 catches or 1,000 yards since 03. Hasn't averaged 13ypc since 04. etc etc etc

Yourr right, I had Burress on the brain. Toomer will be plaiying this year for the hopes that he can continue playing.

Right - should have thought you meant Burress. I think the Giants will re-sign him this offseason, but if he departs, he definitely will get serious coin again.
