2012 MLB First Year Player Draft (1 Viewer)

It's supposedly a down year and the rule changes regarding over-slot bonuses will have an impact on draft strategy.

RHPs Mark Appel (Stanford) and Kevin Gausman (LSU) and C Mike Zunino (Florida) are the top collegians. Toolsy OFs Byron Buxon and Albert Almora and tall Puerto Rican SS Carlos Correa seem to have attracted the most attention as High Schoolers.

It probably won't be possible to grade the picks for five years but that won't stop people from trying.

Always great to watch and regardless of whose rankings you use, upgrade or downngrade players based on where they actually get drafted.

Buxton generally regarded as the best hitter/position player while opinions are split on the pitchers - mainly dependent on how they did this year as opposed to earlier high school/college years

We will be watching as the astros have the 1st pick in forever...believe the Phil Nevin disaster (although decent later with the Padres for a few years).

Texas with 5 picks in the first 93 picks. Look for best available regardless of position. Good makeup/character guys.

Far cry from the days where they would draft for need at the big league level right NOW.

Thank you JD.

I havent been as excited over a draft pick for my Twins since Joe Mauer. Buxton looks to be the total package so will be crossing my fingers he develops to be a star to go along with Sano and some other young talent we have.

Would it be possible if you moved te all star game up to make the draft on all star Wednesday or do they guys see the asg as a convention. It would be great to do this on a night when baseball was dark

Just found out that one of the teacher's at my kid's daycare had her son drafted in the fourth round by Arizona, Chuck Taylor.

Was pretty cool just talking to her for a few minutes. He pretty much graduated on that Saturday from high school, was drafted on Tuesday and was on a plane to rookie ball on Wednesday. The kid was excited to call his mom and talk about getting his first double and more excited talking about breaking up a double play. Pretty exciting for an 18 year old kid.
