Any thoughts about moving to a one hour clock for rounds 14-16?

Most of the guys drafted at this point in the draft will get dropped before Halloween.

I don't see the rush as the pace has been fine and there's plenty of time. That said, I also don't care if we do.

When do FA pick-ups start?
First waivers run will be the Thursday before game week 1. You'll only be able to put FA claims in on players in the Fantrax database. So if you want to speculate on transfers, you need to do it during the draft.

Whoa. Traded up for a defensive midfielder that plays in Portugal.

Championship.
Team name updated.

Also, isn't Shader in NY? Isn't he a new Liverpool fan? Someone call Prada and have one of the employees yell out for him.

Yeah, I don't vote on rule changes, but I also don't see the rush. There are still moves being made.
That's kind of the point.
I kind of agree - I think speculative picks are fun (Come on Reus), but seems a bit unfair for someone to hit the lottery if they know the winning numbers....
I am a bit worried about gamesmanship going on in the round 17 free for all.

I hate making things up as we go along but I'm looking for feedback on limiting round 17 selections to players in the Fantrax database. I think it's an easy fix to a big potential problem.

how about setting a dead line for your 17th round pick? Maybe 12 hours after pick 16.14.That way people can gamble on getting a late transfer, or pick someone in the DB quickly before someone else, but you don't drag it out. I people fail to make a pick, give them the lowest ranked player in the DB as a place holder.

There is always a bit of luck involved anyway... There could be a late transfer after the draft is done, but before the season, giving a late position a benefit from having a higher WW pick, but I think that's fine, since they had a disadvantage in the draft.

Well, it just seems that 13 rounds into the draft is kind of weird timing to address those concerns. We made a trade. And yeah, we wanted a guy likely to start 30 games for a top 4 team. But one reason why I didn't care about overpaying for a defensive midfielder was because I'd rather pick later than earlier right now with all things being equal. That was strategery, folks.

Now, I'm not going to go all sebowksi if you make the clock faster. It's fine. But it seems that we're in no danger of missing the start of the season.

This was how we did it in previous years with skips. I assumed we'd carry it over with the 17th round this year.

I'm probably going to schedule the 17th round around the end of the European business day so we'll all be working pretty much off the same information. Picks will have to be made before midnight PDT the same day.

This. Not to mention that, as alluded to above, considering we will have 1st waiver priority after the draft, it would actually be in our benefit to get this draft over as fast as possible so we can land the top transfer during that first waiver run. I just don't think that's fair to all to lock up the 17th round like that when some teams may have been waiting to make prospective picks at that time.

 I think I am done drafting for awhile, but let my clock run. I'll catch up when I see a transfer when I can.

ETA - strategery folks ;)

A simple rule of your pick expiring after certain time seems easy and fair to avoid this in any round, including the last round. If you don't pick within 12 hours of your pick, it's lost forever.

Isn't it easily avoided by not letting people skip their round 13-16 picks? If they haven't made up their missing picks before 16.14 they forfeit their pick and get a lowest ranked player?

That way no one can be tricky...

For future years - perhaps it is best to limit the pre-season draft to only those players listed in the database when the draft starts. No prospecting.

We have this same issue in a couple of baseball leagues I am in where we begin our drafts in February, before all the FAs have signed. We lock the list of players eligible in each league when the draft starts (Each league is AL or NL only), and don't expand the list until after the first week of the season.

We've dealt with this in previous years without a lot of drama. There's no reason to throw the baby out with the bath water.

Not sure if we're in the minority but we LOVE the prospecting. It's a gamble. Last year, we wasted 2 picks on Ronaldo and Benzema. This year, we may have wasted 2 picks already as well. Trying to gauge when to actually pull the trigger (not too early when rumors are garbage but not too late when it becomes a sure thing and someone else can jump on it) is part of the fun.

Plus, the issue right now isn't prospecting. It's delaying a pick to wait until a deal is actually finalized. At that point, the player is in the database and it's no longer prospecting.

While there's some $ on the line in this league, we're not talking large amounts here. This is meant to be a fun league and we're not trying to cause loopholes or be shady here. Unfortunately, the transfer window is huge and doesn't close for another month. There's no way to predict when deals will get done and some teams will simply get lucky if there's a big deal that gets finalized when they're on the clock. What we can't have happen is people to just sit on a pick for days to take advantage of that. It's a simple fix of limiting the time on a pick before it's completely lost, not eliminating the chance of making a prospective pick that has so far been allowed all draft.

We're averaging 2 rounders per day right now. There's only 4 more rounds left. This draft, at this current pace, is going to be done in 2-3 days. Nothing magical is expiring or happening in the next 2-3 days. Leave the timer as is, add a total time limit on picks before they are completely lost (12 hrs seems reasonable), and be done with it.

My $.02.
