I think the most valid point made during the draft was that the rules changes impacted player values and draft strategy, i.e. rotational guys get an upgrade with a gametime deadline. There's no way to get that genie back into the bottle so I think we have to maintain the status quo for this season.

If I understand correctly, the idea is it makes it less likely that East Coasters will be able to get up early enough to make changes. I think the rule assumes that West Coasters can't (and shouldn't) be expected to check their Twitter feeds at that hour.

I don't check American football lineups when games start at 1PM, so I'm not the guy to ask. But the concern seems to be that the 1 minute rule does grant East Coasters a more plausible opportunity to make changes than West Coasters.

I may not be as dedicated as the rest of you - but, I am not checking twitter feeds two hours before a game looking for line-up rumors that may or may not be true. I will check the line-ups for moat games, but if I can't do that in time to make any changes, it kind of defeats the purpose of checking.

FTR - I did not draft a single player thinking he had more or less value if he was in a rotation. A player who is in a rotation is less valuable because I can't play him in a given week - never dawned on me that he has less value because I have to take a 0 for him. And, honestly, the rotation guys will be easier for teams to plan around - because they will see if the player played in the mid-week game.

But, the guy who has a knock, and is a GT decision, is who is going to be affected most here.

Just seems odd, that the preference is not to have the best line-up in play.

Is the bolded really an issue for anyone? The only argument I remember reading was the disadvantage that the WC people have in terms of time. That part can be easily fixed.

If the above were true, then I would agree to leave it as it was. But if it's not (a simple poll could determine that), then can we possibly move it closer to gametime?

At that time, I'm either on my way to the farmers market or making ridiculously fussy coffee. Sebowski is, hopefully, asleep. I suppose it's possible for me to still gin the system if I have to be up making changes by 7AM ET, but that's unlikely to happen.

A couple of more questions - looking at the fantrax site, it looks like line-up changes can happen anytime up until 1-hour before the first match of the day - I assume this is each physical day.

Any reason why line-up changes would not have a closer deadline to the time each player plays - line-ups are not usually announced much before an hour before kick-off, and if you have a player playing a later game, seems like you are SOL with this set-up.

There is definitely a benefit to having players that are consistent starters.

even consistent starters get rotated at the MF and Fwd positions on occasion. The guys who are rotated are easier to predict because you can see who played the mid-week game and determine how likely they are to play in the league. Not sure why we would not want to adjust line-ups up until game time - or, just set line-ups on friday for the upcoming week. Allowing for changes to teams that play the first game of the week, seems to be an arbitrary cut-off, that will benefit some teams.

I just don't like having guys who play on Sunday or Monday locked in on Saturday. If I recall correctly last year your entire lineup was locked an hour before the kickoff of the first match of the gameweek. I'm just saying that the new rule is definitely an improvement to last year. I don't really care about the whole one-minute before vs one-hour before debate that is raging right now. I'm probably going to be asleep regardless. The guardian does a good job of projecting lineups the day before, that's what I used last year.

I do get that. I don't have a decent answer. I'd probably do a longer time before each game (like 4 hours or something), but I doubt it would really change the results much more than the global auto lock.

Just looking quickly at the EPL stats, I see about 50 players with 35 or more appearances. 110 have 32 or more appearances.

Just my own impression, but I think goals (and assists) from defenders is pretty random. Evra had four goals two years ago (he has 13 league goals in 460 appearances in his whole career). That didn't carry over last year. Coleman is another good example. He had 2 goals in 64 appearances for Sligo Wanderers and Blackpool before joining Everton. He then had four goals in his first season with the club. He then went two seasons (44 appearances) without scoring a goal for Everton before getting six last year. Coleman could be a very good attacking full back/wing back this year and still only score one goal. Baines is pretty much the only consistent scoring defender I know, and that's because he takes PKs.

Starts and clean sheets seem more stable to me.

^ good posting. Coleman won't get six goals again. Sagna and the amount Zabaleta played this summer had me worried about his appearances. Coleman is pretty much an auto-start if healthy.

Then why not take Jags? Coleman is a winger that gets a DEF tag. I'm surprised there's any question why he or Baines would be the first defenders off the board.

There's two different topics being batted around here. I think the drafting strategy discussion is interesting, but in the end I just want to get the rules settled. I come down wherever Eephus does. I'm just glad he's able to put this thing together, so whatever he wants to do is fine with me. We could set the lineups on Tuesday and I still don't think there's any way we lose this thing.

< 1hour - allows for best line-ups, with minimal games missed (for me this should never come down to whether a random guy gets a start each week, we should settle this on the field) I can't really compare this to the NFL, where the information flow is so much greater, I just seems very unsettling that we are somewhat blindly setting line-ups when there is a better alternative available. I would hate to win a game against someone who ends up starting a player who does not play, but had suitable alternatives on the bench who would have played if given the opportunity. Just feels cheap, and not really in keeping with the spirit of letting the players decide who wins each game)

1 hour - its better than 1st game of the day, and it does not put West Coast players at a disadvantage at having to get up early to set line-ups.

I realize there are a bunch that don't care one way or the other, but if these were the two options, what is your choice?

I dont mind putting it to a vote. If you MADE me choose, I'd make it less than one hour as it simply makes the games more fun. That said, if Eephus wants to make an executive decision to keep it at an hour, Im more than happy to go that route too.
