Previous results in my sig. If you haven't participated before, rules are below.

Suggestions and discussion welcome in this thread, As always PMing lists to me is encouraged vs. posting them here, so there is some drama in the big reveal, which as of right now I think will take place on a Friday in mid-January (people back from holidays etc...)

I'm not going to set a deadline yet for lists, but plan on having them in by end of 2014.

2013 Results

These are the rules we've used in the past, still work for everyone, or should we do some tinkering? The one thing that happens with the assigned points is one person can love an album, give it 30 points and it finds it's way into the midsection of the countdown. It puts an album "loved" by one person ahead of one that was "liked" by 3 or 4 people, which can be either a good or bad thing, depending on how you look at it. Personally, I think it adds some diversity to the chart but maybe we should roll the max per album back to 25?

- You have 200 points to distribute as you see fit among 10 to 20 albums.
- No album can be given more than 30 points
- You can also simply post your top 10-20 albums in order and they will be awarded points in a descending order from 19-1.

- You must post at least 10 albums
- Any album consisting of new/previously unreleased material released in 2014 is eligible (No reissues, compilations must be all new material)
- Live Albums must have been recorded and released in 2014
- EP's are eligible
- You can post your album rankings/points assignments here or PM them to me (PMing them to me adds some mystery as to how the final results shake out, but if some people just want to post a top 10/20 list, that's fine too).
The countdown will take place in a new thread I'll start shortly after that. I'll try to run through the whole list on one day.
- The more participants the better
- Let's try to keep this near the top of the page for the next couple weeks.

I've enjoyed this Spotify playlist but I thought all this time it was Ilov80s'. Just goes to show, you learn something new every year

LIke many others have said, I didn't think any album this year was awesome/unforgettable. In fact, I think the following albums from last year were all superior in most every way: The National, Queens of the Stone Age, the 1975, Lorde, Drake, Arctic Monkeys, Vampire Weekend, probably a couple others. I've written at least a couple sentences per record in the past but didn't feel compelled to do so this year.

Anyway, here is my ranking/scoring...

Cymbals Eat Guitars - 25

The War On Drugs - 25

Future Islands - 20

The Orwells - 17

D'Angelo - 16

Taylor Swift - 16

Gaslight Anthem - 16

Hookworms - 15

Run the Jewels 2 - 14

Strand of Oaks - 13

Twin Peaks - 12

Ryan Adams - (1984) - 11 points - if the guy had made this an actual album instead a recording of some riffs and hooks it could have been amazing.

Afghan Whigs -10- I haven't been this disappointed in a record in years. It was slightly better than average which sucks considering the previous three records of theirs (and most Twilight Singers stuff) are all in my favorite-ever records.

Struggling to really pull together a full list. Not sure if it's because I listened to less than past years or stuff just didn't hit me as much.

When's the deadline? OP says end of 2014 :oldunsure:

My deadlines are notoriously lax. Right now I'm thinking countdown jan 16 or 23, deadline will be day before but earlier is better, to make sure we have enough to have a decent countdown, maybe if you're not ready with the list but intend on sending one post here and let me know.

I'll be in- really, really struggling narrowing down a list. a bunch of stuff I like all about the same this year.

but as always- the work done here, NV.

I'm definitely going to submit one, just don't have a good final list yet. I have a list, but I can't help but feel I'm forgetting albums I enjoyed.

1. The War on Drugs - Lost In the Dream
2. Joe Henry - Invisible Hour
3. Matthew Ryan - Boxers

Considering the wide ranging taste in this thread, I am surmising that dAngelo isn't on a lot of lists because people haven't listened. It may not be a favorite (wasn't mine) but it's a ton better than some of the riff raft being bandied about.

My scientific (and easy) method for creating my rankings... Every year I create a playlist named for that year. As I listen to albums throughout the year, I put the songs that I like into this playlist. At the end of the year, I make my rankings based on the number of songs from each album that made the playlist. Wa-la.

Can't tell how many of the 'I've narrowed it down to 67' posts are schtick. It's an album poll on an internet message board - does Hozier get his #### chopped off if he's not in the top 20 of our little poll?

nice forehead!

good to see a bunch of albums (4, 5, 9, 11, 14, 17) on there that I was looking at but cut. I need to check to see if I remembered to include your #4... will likely bump somebody for it if not.

2014 was a quantity year for me. I had a hard time with the final cutdown this year but there wasn't a 30 point album that blew me away.
