2014 NBA Draft Thread - A Tradition Unlike Any Other (1 Viewer)

Wow. Sixers with a fantastic draft thus far. Hinkie is a smart dude.
Unless Embid turns into Oden and Saric stays in Turkey
Then they get a redo next year.
and tons of money to spend where ever they want. And they are no longer on the hook to give up all sorts of picks in upcoming drafts. people need to see how the teams were looking in the future. Hinkie has taken back tons of future picks the Sixers gave away for crap. Honestly one of the best set teams for the next 5 years

Seems weird after living here for such a long time - I don't know if the Nuggets have ever had 2 guys that are pretty decent at shooting guard at the same time - for long stretches they have never had a shooter period.

They will also likely trade TYoung (+picks as needed) to a contender during the season for even better picks.

Saric and Embiid to the Sixers? Hello 2015 Lottery!!!!!!!
And 2016
Won't play well with the WIP jabronis....but that's fine.
Amazing how Hinkie is almost getting the Sixers back to not owing anybody anymore picks that Collins and the old Sixers regime all gave away. Awesome what this guy has done in a year and half. Sixers are going to be absolutely stacked in a few years
Agreed. It won't play well with a lot of fans but this team is closer to a title than 2 years ago. Like to see them trade back in and get a shooter.
I like everything he's done since he's been here. I have the most faith in him as a GM in this town.

Terrific pick by OKC. Who I mocked him to last few months.

Perfect fit. Thinks he's a great fit in today's NBA. OKC fans ecstatic as makes it more likely Perk is disposed of sooner rather than later.

What did the 76ers gain by trading instead of drafting Saric? I didn't see anything else in the trade.
Got their first round pick back next year, plus a 2nd. Ballsy move to take a guy you don't want or need then turn him into that deal.
It wasn't really going to be a first next year. Lottery protected.
But then it could have been in 2015 and 2016 and then two seconds.

The key thing is... they can now wheel & deal with that in their stockpile.

You also cant trade back-to-back #1s, so might gain some freedom there also.

@WojYahooNBA: Saric had been the Sixers choice, and finally called Magic to offer Elfrid Payton with 30 seconds left on the clock, league source said.
Sixers get back their 2015 first round pick from Magic - which was protected and couple have been a year or two later.
Link? All I've seen is the second rounder.
*I added its confusing to previous post.

That pick if delayed for 3 years would have become a 2nd rounder. The ESPN ticker on the draft-cast said it was a return of Phillys own pick from the 4team trade last year.

I (the draft-tracker) could be wrong.
Andy KatzHere is the trade: Orlando sends rights to Dario Saric and will return Sixers pick in '15 and a 2nd in '15 for rights for Elfrid Payton.

So they got back their 1st and got an additional 2nd.
pretty funny from the libertyballers site:

"Give us a first rounder, a second rounder and the guy we wanted all along for the point guard we don't need." "Okay." - Hinkie and Hennigan
Hinkie is a jedi.

Oh thanks, didn't know that, so they just removed the possibility of losing a non lottery pick?

i think the key is that it corrected that whole Dwight Howard/Bynum trade where the sixers gave up some picks

After watching Diaw make a huge difference in Finals, surprised Kyle Anderson's not gone.

He'll likely land in a better situation at this point. Better for him perhaps.
