2014 PGA Championship - Valhalla (1 Viewer)

Classic Mickelson hissy. Looking forward to the interview.
so easy to hate...and i don't hate him
I'd be frustrated too. You're competing at the highest level and the officials and tournament directors are making up things as they go on the 72nd hole. Let them drive, then you go... Nah, let's play it as a foursome... now you go up to the green, then they hit, then you hit!!!

I'm not a fan, but he had a point. Not only should he not have been put in a position of having to wait with light fading, but he's helping others gain an advantage in the process. That was not a call for the rules officials to make. Fantastic tournament, but not a shining moment for the PGA.

Yeah Phil has a legit gripe. I used to hate the guy but he has a point. Hell, I would have been ok had Rory said he wants to wait until tomorrow. Rules are rules.

I don't hate him at all. Many do, and his televised fit tonight did nothing to alleviate those sentiments.

Only caught the end of that interview, but sounded like he took the high road. What is this hissy fit people are talking about?

there wasn't one. Commentators manufacturing drama
Actually, I think it was me manufacturing drama. I didn't hear the commentators say much either. I apologize for my overreaction--but I thought I saw Phil on the precipice of a tantrum when the final twosome wanted to play through.

Phil's interview was quite gracious.

Oh, he was definitely annoyed, but rightfully so. And nothing approaching a hissy fit.

The PGA let Rory tee off on 18 before Phil had reached the fairway. Phil was a bit perturbed but he didn't throw a hissy fit.
They gave him clearance and you could hear Bones say something to the effect of "Go ahead and have them hit once we get across the bridge."

Phil was saying something to a camera man maybe after the round handshake. I wish I could've caught it. He sounded a bit annoyed there as well.

Love Rory's finish especially considering how many times some schlub has taken a lead into Sunday just to get annihilated. None of us can even imagine that kind of pressure. Yet here he kept himself in check, didn't get off to the best start but somehow was there at the end. Great, great, performance by Rory, great ending to the majors season. He'll be the dude to beat at Augusta

Awesome tournament especially compared to the other 3 uneventful finished this year. Was rooting for Phil, but equally happy for Rory.

Would have been great to see Tiger in the mix but maybe next year. Rory has that fear factor right now. Kid is red hot.

Cameraman bumped into him and he said something like "you can't be doing that dude"

You know Phil was going to ##### about the last hole in his interview but after Rory thanked him for the sportsmanship he knew he couldn't.

One of the better majors in a while - would have like to have seen Fowler or Phil win it - but Rory was a next in line rooting interest. Would love to see him rip off a bunch of majors.

That would the ultimate **** move if Rory said "Yeah I think I will wait until tomorrow morning for these two putts". He would have had every right to do it too

But it doesn't look like he needs to with that putt
Faldo said he'd have stopped.
Hell Tiger would have stopped before the 15th hole
Tiger won a tourney also in the dark.
Yeah... that's the first shot on this video.

My favorite was the 214-yard six iron out of the sand over water to a closely guarded green to win the Canadian Open. Was one of the most ridiculous things he ever did. It's next to last on the video.

My question is... After Phil missed his chip and Rory had to 2-putt for the win (basically in the dark), what would have happened if at that point he said "I want to wait until tomorrow"...

Sorry if this has been covered, I just read the last page... Watching it, I could have seen Tiger do exactly that. After Phil and Fowler were made to let Rory play with them tee to green,

it would haven been a major **** move for Rory to not finish... and precisely a move Tiger would have made...

Pretty much wrong across the board here.

Who gives a crap what Tiger would've done?

Big props to Rory and his mental game. Whoever his psych is should be damn proud of him. Finishing out that hole under those circumstances would make every single one of us in this thread buckle at the knees.

I like the kid and thought it was badass that he finished in the dark... I'm just asking, what other golfers would have finished like that, and which ones might have made the decision to wait...

What would the reaction have been if "said" golfer had made the decision to wait after the group in front were forced to let that golfer finish with them??

I'm sorry if we don't play the "what if" game on this board anymore.. my bad

We'll never know, but I'm pretty sure Tiger would have finished out also. Nobody wanted to come back this morning. There would have been almost no gallery for 5 minutes of golf on a Monday morning.

If Rory wanted to postpone, he had the right to do so. One of the announcers last night (Flado?) said he would have waited until the morning.

I know he had the right... My question was, what would the backlash have been if he had decided to? And what golfers could you imagine doing that??

I could see Tiger doing it.. not young, dominant Tiger... but the Tiger now...

Only Tiger really. As far as I know he is the only one on tour nobody likes.

I wonder if Rory would have hung it up if he was only up by one or was even on 18 tee.

I am not clear what took place to have Phil on the tee on 18 with Rory watching? What prevented them from teeing off? Were they stalling at all?

There was a back up on the tee box.. Phil was waiting on the group in front of him..

It is a par 5 that is reachable in two shots so that tends to lead to back ups. Additionally, I believe they shortened the amount of time between groups teeing off. This wasn't the first time the two groups were at the same tee.
