2015 Shark Pool mock draft - The first one (1 Viewer)

BUF just took Kikhaha with the last pick, so screw it I'll take the flyer with my "free" pick from the Cleveland trade.

HOU takes Hundley.

He was already drafted. Not sure there is another guard worth it here....I'll take Coleman. In a meeting so will write up later.
Despite being very productive, Miami clearly does not trust Lamar Miller to carry the load. They limited him to only 216 rushes in 2014 despite averaging over 5 yards a carry. Moreno is probably not going to be back and the second leading ball carrier was Daniel freaking Thomas. Additionally, Miami targeted running backs over 100 times last year. Tannehill loves the checkdown. Enter Coleman, who will is well rounded enough to spell Miller on any down. In particular, his skills in the passing game are well suited to how Bill Lazor's offense runs and what they hoped Moreno would bring.

San Diego takes TJ Yeldon, RB, Roll Tide

This is assuming the Chargers don't sign a free agent RB - if that were the case this pick would be a DB.

Nice grab, with the Pats having 3 picks between the 96 and the 98 I was beginning to consider RB as one of them, with Yeldon being the preferred target.

Philadelphia Eagles select Stephone Anthony, ILB, Clemson.

There's a few other guys I like at other positions of need, but with an extra pick, we have the ammunition to trade up later if we need to. I have Anthony rated in the next tier after McKinney/Kendricks/Perryman are off the board. I know a lot of people that would like Anthony in the second, to get him in the third without a trade up is pretty sweet.

There are other guys I like on the board, but it's feasible that they can drop another round or two, so I'll hold off and grab Anthony at this position of need (depending on Demeco Ryans' health)

There were also a few other guys at other positions I would have considered, but were selected earlier this round. Props to good scouting everyone!

Ugh, I am pretty clueless.

Bengals will go with OT Donovan Smith - Penn State

We will need a LT probably in another year or so and he can learn behind Whitworth. Perhaps with a great camp he can move Whitworth inside to guard.

-QG

The Arizona Cardinals will take:

Markus Golden DE/LB Mizzou, I took a look to see if he's gone and can't see him anywhere. He's simply terrific value down here!

By the way Josue Matias has been taken twice; I took him at pick 55 in round 2 for AZ and someone else has taken him in round 3 for Miami?

Steelers take Derron Smith, S, Fresno State.

Much like Dupree, Smith brings position versatility. With the Steelers likely to play a bunch of hybrid fronts/coverages as the Tomlin Tampa 2 and the LeBeau zone blitz make a goulash in 2015, versatility is going to be key. Dupree will inherit the elephant role in this defense, as he can play the end in a 4-3, stand up and rush the passer as an OLB in the 3-4 or drop back in coverage, Smith has the speed and fluidity to play free safety or slot corner.

He'd play the latter right away on a team devoid of corner talent, but ultimately will inherit the FS role once the Steelers cut Mitchell or his contract expires. While Smith clearly lacks size and would have a very tough time covering NFL tight ends, he does have very good speed and outstanding ball skills. He needs to learn to take better angles to the ball carrier, but hopefully coaching will help with that on this level. What he brings in spades is awareness, football IQ, and excellent hands. Smith breaks well on the ball and is a splash play waiting to happen, which the Steelers need on defense like a fat man needs bacon. A four year starter and former QB, he's more well suited to start right away than most players hanging around in the 80s.

Miami took Coleman.

Lions take Buck Allen, RB USC

Replace one Trojan back with another.

I've been hoping he'd go off the board soon.
Why is that?
Because he should. The knee injuries will scare a few teams and he's soft against the run, but he's a wicked pass rusher. Many teams need what he brings.
That's what I thought too. In the Hughes role with Ryan's Blitz's I think he's a good fit.
Good pick, but I don't see the QB starved Bills passing on Hundley twice. Too much upside. GM's are going to fall in love with that.

4th round? or is it becoming too much of a mess now?
Don't really know enough about the 4th round and beyond prospects. I like the idea of repeating the draft with people rotating through teams so that we get the benefit of different POV. Once you dig in past the simplistic websites with "each team's top 3 draft needs" and really learn the holes on teams you're unfamiliar with it's a very helpful exercise.

I'll likely be at work for my pick.

No peeking

3.96 - Jeremiah Poutasi OL - Versatile Guard that has had success at Tackle, big at 6'6" 330 lbs

3.c(Talib) - Shaq Mason OG - Strong/quick guard

4.98 - Max Garcia OL - Another versatile Guard, has played Tackle and Center with some success.

Picks through the 4.98:
1.32 - Dorial Green-Beckham WR
2.64 - Mario Edwards Jr. DT/DE
3.96 - Jeremiah Poutasi OL
3.c - Shaq Mason OG
4.98 - Max Garcia OL

Several teams are going to get some decent value at the WR spot in the 3rd/4th rounds this year, I think.
The Steelers figured this out a long time ago.

Mike Wallace

Emmanuel Sanders

Antonio Brown

Markus Wheaton

Martavis Bryant

Their top 5 receivers over the last half-decade: three third rounders, a fourth, and a sixth. It can be done, WR is not a position you need to spend a high draft pick on. Hell, Hines Ward was a third rounder too. Meanwhile guys they spent #1s on in the last 20 years? Charles Johnson, Troy Edwards, Plaxico Burress, Santonio Holmes. The first two were COMPLETE washouts, Burress had some good years but ended up in ignominy, and Holmes disintegrated professionally after that SB winning catch 6 years ago.

ETA : And if we start looking at 2nd rounders, the first name that comes to mind is Limas Sweed. :shudder:

Kevin White, Andrus Peat, Eli Harold.

According to CBS, CLE has the #10, #12 and #36 ranked prospects. All of which are positions of desperate need for my team

Todd McShay, whose big board I cant see, has my guys going 10, 16 and 29 in the 2015 draft.

Happy with my picks, and this makes me a little more confident as well.

Good pick, but I don't see the QB starved Bills passing on Hundley twice. Too much upside. GM's are going to fall in love with that.
Hundley is a project. Is Hundley a better prospect than EJ was? I'd say no. To get Hundley they've passed on other talent and still only have a project QB. Why not wait until the 5th and get your project QB there? I'm also biased because I'm not a fan of Hundley.

Your analysis reminds me of the FBGuys Rate My Team feature. If you compare your picks to your own big board, you typically do pretty well. That being said, I do really like the draft you put together for the Browns.

The Browns really intrigue me. Did you consider trading up for a top quarterback?

Why Peat? Are they trying to upgrade from Mitchell Schwartz or is he a free agent? What's the plan at quarterback?

What I find amazing about the Browns is that they do such a great job manuevering in the draft, but they always end up with guys that don't pan out. Justin Gilbert and Johnny Manziel come to mind immediately. That trade with Buffalo was a great trade, but they just ended up drafting the wrong players. It's a shame.

I guess it depends on how you grade Hundley. Personally, I'm not a fan, but with the Eagles pick in round 3, I really considered him. If some teams have him graded as a first round talent, then he won't last through the third in the actual draft.

14 Miami - Trae Waynes, CB - Michigan St
47 Miami - Paul Dawson LB, TCU
78 Miami - Tevin Coleman, RB - Indiana
Pretty happy with this draft. Miami's needs are at G, LB, CB, DT, S and RB. They will probably create a need at WR too by cutting Hartline and Gibson. The combination of cap constraints and the weak draft class mean that G and LB are the best positions to address in free agency. Starting caliber CBs are too expensive to expect them to sign one, so it is a no brainier to pick Waynes first. After that, it is about finding value in a position Miami needs to get better at. Pretty happy how that worked out as Dawson is the type of player I expect to go at the end of the first. Miami needs 2 to 3 new LBs. Decided to go with best running back out there in the third after all the guards I liked were off the board.

Because almost every QB is a project. And although Hundley is raw, he has a lot of upside that I don't see in any other QB in this draft. Mayyybe Grayson, but the rest are near zeroes.

If you think one of these next tier QBs is going to be the guy, then you take him. You don't wait on the last project available, you scout the one you think is the best and trust your staff.
