Are you starting with one of Harden or Westbrook? That makes a big difference when one deciding between, for example, Oladipo (probably best player of the group if looking for someone to lead the team) and Ariza (the ideal 3 and D guy to play alongside one of these ball dominant superstars).Had this conversation with some friends the other day. If you were to draft the OKC and Hou players other than Harden and Westbrook how would you draft? Assume you're focused on 1 year so age/youth is less of a factor.

Would it really matter if they were fully healthy? It's tough enough being a Clipper fan without the FFA piling on. BTW, they'll be eliminated in the 2nd round via simultaneous femur fractures... yes, the whole team.
If they were fully healthy they would choke away a series with crunch-time turnovers. And frolicking on a banana boat by the end of the week.Would it really matter if they were fully healthy?
It's like our NBA finalsFTR, Lakers play Pelicans Tuesday. Suns have Kings on Wednesday.
These are the things you know as a Sixers' fan.
16 million per year? If that's the case I hope it's not the Thunder. It's easy to make fun of him because the shooting is so comically bad but he seems like a good guy and he's a great defender, so good for him I guess.Robertson is going to be an interesting contract this offseason. I could see him getting anywhere from a 3 year deal at the mid-level to a 4 year deal in the 16-18 million a year range.
I would go the other way and take Westbrook and then Ariza. Assuming this is for one season.I choose Harden, i take Adams first.
So funny. Lakers win and Suns lose!Lakers![]()

I simulated the lottery on tankathon until I got to Sixers at 1 and Lakers at 4 and now I refuse to close that page. Though I will be a little disappointed if we don't get to execute that pick swap. Which is very sad.So funny. Lakers win and Suns lose!
Sixers with 53% shot at that pick.

I like these across the board except maybe with Gobert. Jazz are only one spot behind the Warriors in defensive efficiency (3rd and 2nd), so I don't see how team performance can separate the two. But I don't watch nearly enough of either team to make an informed decision. All I know if I haven't seen someone change the game like Gobert does every time he's on the floor. I'd be curious to see on/off defensive numbers for each guy.NBA awardsMVP - Russell WestbrookPre-Finals the story of this season is Kevin Durant leaving OKC for GSW and the resulting Russ triple-double train. Great seasons for James Hardin, LeBron James, Kahwi Leonard, and Steph Curry but this is Westbrook's year.Defensive POY - Draymond GreenI wold have voted for Jazz C Rudy Gobert as late as a month ago, but Green is the most important defensive cog on the best team. His versatility keeps that team a step ahead on defense and they did so even after Durant went out for 20 games due to injury. Most improved - Giannis AntetokounmpoHe has gotten better every single season (this season, literally, in any major statistical category you can name). The guy has gone from decent starter with upside to a full-blown NBA superstar. 6th man - Eric GordonThe Rockets guard has put up crazy 3 point numbers and kept the offense humming whenever Hardin was out. As importantly, he's managed to stay healthy. His newer teammate, Lou Williams, may ultimately win the award after being acquired from the Lakers, but Gordon toiled for the #3 overall best team all season long.Coach of the Year - Gregg PopovichYou could probably go with the Spurs Gregg Popovich every year. Despite some solid candidates I think I will. No Tim Duncan and a near-retirement Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili? What about the past his prime Pau Gasol as the defensive center with guys like David Lee, Johnathan Simmons, and Kyle Anderson logging minutes...still 2nd best record in the whole league again? The guy is ridiculous and the Spurs system just keeps on keepin' on.Rookie of the Year - Joel EmbiidThe Bucks Malcom Brogdon and Philly's Dario Saric have cases to be made, but The Process flashed elite talent in his 30 some odd games. In a down year for rookies overall, his elite upside gets the award despite the limited number of games played. He was must see for NBA nerds like myself while he was playing, hopefully he doesn't go out like Greg Oden or Bill Walton.
OK, but then who gets the award? Both Saric and Hield aren't even in the Top 10 in PER among rookies, and it's not like they're compensating for that on the defensive end.You can't give Embiid an award for playing 25 minutes per in 30 games.

Of course you can. He's the clear winner. Nobody else is even close. You can't give Embiid an award for playing 25 minutes per in 30 games.

If the MVP race had the same dreg as ROY, then Durant would be considered. It's a horrible class of rookies.![]()
30 games seems too small for me. Hell, Durant isn't even in the conversation for MVP, and he will have played twice as many games. Of course there are awesome worthy candidates for MVP, but until his injury, he was at worst top 5.
What if Embiid had played 20 games? 15? Everyone must have a cutoff. Mine happens to be "you have to at least play > 50% of teams games". The guy has played 786 minutes. That is such a ridiculously small amount of time
It is difficult, I agree. The fact that there are no other candidates really is a big issue. Plus it's not like there are some hallowed criteria for how ROY is supposed to be decided. It's kind of like getting all up in arms about the change in MLB All-Star Game HFA.![]()

5 in a row. :confetti:Wish the Lakers had 2 more games so they could slip to 4.
Why do you say that? Other than Ingram, the biggest disappointments have been upperclassmen (Hield, Dunn, Sabonis, Valentine). Brown and Murray are looking like big time future contributors and the scouting on Simmons hasn't changed.Starting to think one-and-done is worse than none. They come in less humble, as much to learn and more to unlearn
Watched Brown all year as a Celt and every one of his faults lie in him thinking he knows more than he does. Murray aint much different and we'd know if he was a point by now.Why do you say that? Giannis, Middleton, Snell, and Dellavedova resting against CelticsWiz sitting Wall, Beal, Morris and Mahinmi tonight in Miami, making the Heat double digit favorites. That means the Pacers and Bulls will likely have to win to hold off the Heat for the 7 and 8 spots.
I thought I read embiid is the huge favorite in Vegas.Rookie of the Year? Should be Kris Dunn. He has more fouls than assists. Now that's damn impressive as a point.
In all seriousness, what a horrid rookie pool. In terms of impact, Embid is the runaway. That said, there's virtually no chance he wins having played in only 30 games. So I think it's a two horse race between Saric and Brogdon, and I think I just threw up a little in my mouth. I think Saric wins, as it seems ROY is mostly a stats based vote and he's got the least poor of a sorry bunch.
Wow, that would surprise me greatly. If I had a vote it would go to Embiid by default, but I just (wrongfully?) assumed there's no way they'd give the ROY to someone whom didn't earn it by playing in a majority of his team's games.I thought I read embiid is the huge favorite in Vegas.
I've watched very little Celtics basketball this year, so I can't comment too much other than Brown has been pretty well reviewed by the media. I've watched a lot of Murray though, and I don't think he fits in at all with your previous post, by all accounts he is a very coachable player and was one of the only players putting in full effort on defense for the Nuggets this year. I think you're a little off base on him being a PG for the Nuggets too. With Jokic being the centerpiece of the offense with ball handlers all around him (everybody is comfortable passing and attacking off the dribble other than Faried and Hernangomez), they don't need a point guard to bring the ball up every time and get them in their set. And for whatever it's worth, Murray had 10 assists last night.Watched Brown all year as a Celt and every one of his faults lie in him thinking he knows more than he does. Murray aint much different and we'd know if he was a point by now.
I saw it quickly on twitter so I don't remember the details. I just assumed he had it locked up.Wow, that would surprise me greatly. If I had a vote it would go to Embiid by default, but I just (wrongfully?) assumed there's no way they'd give the ROY to someone whom didn't earn it by playing in a majority of his team's games.
Yeah, not ideal. But most of these are understandable. The Nets, on the other hand, is kinda embarrassing since they don't have anything to rest for and it impacts other teams. If I was a Heat fan I'd be pretty pissed.Giannis, Middleton, Snell, and Dellavedova resting against Celtics
Lin, Lopez, and Booker resting against Bulls
Lebron and Kyrie resting against Raptors
Wall and company likely to rest agianst Pacers
Hawks likely to rest against Heat
What a ####show
Kind of a juvenile response to somebody disagreeing with you.you are so much smarter than me. i thought i was the smartest ever but now i'm not. i feel like i want to die now. goodbye -
Hield is actually decent. I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes a league average starter at the 2, maybe a plus bench guy. Doesn't belong in that group. Why do you say that? Other than Ingram, the biggest disappointments have been upperclassmen (Hield, Dunn, Sabonis, Valentine).
I'd give it to Brogdon. Valuable contributor on a team playing games that actually matter, unlike his competitors for the award.Rookie of the Year? Should be Kris Dunn. He has more fouls than assists. Now that's damn impressive as a point.

you're ab right - i AM childish. kill me now!!Kind of a juvenile response to somebody disagreeing with you.
Albert Burneko put a much longer, smarter, angrier version of this post up on Deadspin as I was posting. I don't necessarily agree with him about the Pacers, I think Paul George is interesting and fun to watch. But he's right, it sucks that the very entertaining Heat are probably not going to make it, and that the Nets bizarre decision to rest starters tonight contributes to that.Yeah, not ideal. But most of these are understandable. The Nets, on the other hand, is kinda embarrassing since they don't have anything to rest for and it impacts other teams.
