Fully agree--and I think the key point here is--regardless of what somebody thinks of Mark Jackson--I think it's crystal clear that ANY NBA coach puts more emphasis on defense than Mike D'antoni.   I'm not sure how anybody could argue that Jackson is somehow less defensively minded or oriented than D'antoni.
Back to that point...do what was Harden's excuse before this season?

I would answer your question by saying the system or the culture of the Rockets.  Daryl Morey is huge into analytics and largely makes decisions based on them (Roster construction, what coaches fit there..etc).   While I do think that Harden's defense has slowly but surely actually improved--I think the analytics show that he is a very effective player when he puts more of his focus on the offensive end.  Over the past few seasons--he's essentially been in the top 10-20 players in the league in plus/minus--which means that his team tends to perform very well even with him limiting his energy on defense and focusing on offense. Don't get me wrong--as a basketball player myself--I'm all about defensive effort. My favorite team growing up was the defensive minded Pacers.  I am merely responding to the notion that people seem to believe that Harden cannot or is incapable of playing defense.  My guess is that if Harden were to be playing under a coach and a culture that emphasized defense--he could and would do so.

Given that he had zero coaching experience prior, no HC experience, no assistant experience, no GM experience, I adv going to go out on a limb and say his influence was infinitesimal at best.
Kerr himself said he had just expanded upon what Jackson put in place and credited him for good defensive concept. IIRC, MJ's problem with the Dubs - and the reason he hasn't gotten many coaching feelers since - was that his faith gave him a very specific concept of how men should be & act and that dint sit well with much of the team and devolved into them not listening to him at all.

And Harden showed pretty good defensive instincts when he was the Thunder's 6th man. But defense is about caring and its a long time since he done that.

So all men should have strippers as a mistress?

Probably the most over rated, hollow stat there is.

Warriors defensive improvement under Mark Jackson:

Def rtg

2012 - 27th

2013 -  14th

2014 -  4th

75% players - 2012: Curry, Monta, Rush, Lee, and Biedrins. Only plus defender was Rush as Biedrins was working his way out of the league. 2013 added Bogut which opened the path for Klay over Monta at SG. 2014 added Iggy over Barnes at starting SF. When you add two of the very best defenders in the league who are respected vets....your team will get better no matter what.

15% Mark Jackson - he groomed Klay, Barnes, Green into defensive mindsets. However, he protected Curry, against the star guards wishes.

10% Mike Malone - credited with the X's and O's of the team.

I hate to be that guy but I hope everyone realizes how corrupt and fix the NBA really is. Has been for yrs well before Stern. The Doneghey thing was only the tip of the iceberg. GS never should've been in the finals. Green should've been suspended for most if not rest of the playoffs after the OKC thing. Read this article it makes a lot of sense.

Why the NBA didn't want the 73 win Warriors as Champions

David Stern use to have his buddy Joey Crawford's crew work any NBA games he wanted to last longer. Crawford should've been banned after the Duncan debacle but Stern couldn't let his boy go and only had him come back after a year. How the NBA and Stern reacted to the Donaghy thing was troubling. It was like they wanted it swept away as fast as possible and we are hiding something to it. ESPN given their partnership with NBA were really careful how they worded the reports on this subject to not accuse the NBA of rigging either. I actually live very close to where Tim lived and family and friends were even saying that Tim was just a scape goat. He use to tell them all the time well before this how games were fixed and would sometimes give his friends the odds to bet and win money. Joey Crawford was the biggest better of them all. Steve Javy also was a part of it. Donaghy and Javey were really good friends and Steve even admitted that he use to T up certain NBA Players like Iverson just for the sheer fact of not liking them. Truth is he was shaving points. Given how much a game can rely and be done by one call it's not hard to see. Yeah some aren't gonna believe the convicted felon and see it as an attempt to get out of it but it really isn't hard to believe Donaghey. The media wants you to think he's crazy especially those with big time partnerships in the NBA like ESPN.

Could Donaghey be the Tip of the Iceberg?
Donaghy said this morning that the NBA will do everything it can to force a game six.  Last year's game seven was something like the highest rated game in 20 years for ABC and ratings are UP again for this year.  There is no doubt a game seven this year would break TV rating records.

Warriors aren't winning game six in Cleveland so tonight is basically worth two additional games for the league.

Getting your excuses in line early. You should also talk about how Steph isn't 100% healthy right now as well.

I really dislike Zaza........looks like they are calling this one tight on both ends going to be lots of guys in foul trouble if they don't let em play.

I would have liked to see how this series would have played out with Barnes still on GS instead of Durant then we would have had a true rubber match.  This can't even be considered a rubber match GS gets Durant and Cleveland gets Korver.

Cavs need to change out their fringe players and find a defensive stopper for Durant next year or it will be more of the same another 4-1 defeat in the 2018 finals.

I'm sure he did more than one today but the 92.3 The Fan interview was pretty good. Is there any reason to believe the NBA doesn't review these games with the refs and GIVE the refs points of emphasis for the next game? Makes a lot of sense to me and they'll slant it however they want. They also named a pro-Cavs crew for tonight, couldn't tell that so far if you didn't know. Pretty evenly called IMO.

NBA officials showing again why they are the worst.  Two fun teams who can run, so let's call 593 ticky tack fouls and slow the game down with constant free throw shooting.

Cavs shoot 62% and only up 4.  Missed FT's and too many stupid fouls allow GS to shoot 14 FT's and a few stupid turnovers.

Damn it needed that 3rd on Durant.  I love how the refs don't call that but I see so many times the defender never touches the guy and they call it.
