Here is the list of all the guards 25 or under that had at least 5 win shares last year (Rubio had 5.8). There are very few players as young as Rubio that are as productive, and probably the only one available.

Rubio is certainly a flawed player but if you could pair him with a few shooters, he would be an all-star level PG. He does everything you would want in a PG other than he can't shoot and he finishes at the rim like a guy a foot shorter. He is one of the best defenders at the position, and could easily guard shooting guards, he's a transcendent passer, and rebounds like a small forward. He should easily fetch a mid-to-late lottery pick.

With all that said, I think the T-Wolves should trade him. Dunn looks to be the real deal and they can't play Dunn, Rubio, and Wiggins at the same time because none of them can shoot. Unfortunately, there are a lot of good point guards out there and not many teams which could hide Rubio's weaknesses. San Antonio would be a nice fit. OKC could work if they trade Westbrook. Atlanta might be an ideal fit, if they aren't sold on Schroder. If Miami is looking to rebuild, a Dragic for Rubio swap would be interesting for both sides.
Houston would gladly take him.

Rubio/harden/Ariza/Anderson/capella

gordon, Beverly, KJ, donuts and nene off the bench

how about dekker, Harrell, a future 1, and Scola to make it happen?

So basically close to nothing I want out of my PG.  Yeah, that merits a lottery pick.
It really depends on the teams current makeup.

His efficient passing and execution of offense plus his above average defense makes him valuable.  More to some teams than others, but he is definitely an average starting PG in the NBA.  Probably somewhere around the 15th-20th PG in the league.

I think on the right team he is top 10 PG, maybe top 6-8. He's probably one of the best 3 defenders at the position in the NBA. He rebounds as well as any PG not named Rondo or Westbrook. He is probably the best passer in the NBA. He's like a prime Rajon Rondo with the ability to hit free throws and minus the ####ty attitude. If he can keep his TS% near .530 like he did last year, he is a top dozen PG, if it slips back to just below .500, he is about average as a starting PG, overall. The terrible shooting percentages keep people from recognizing that he is amazing as a true PG with the rest of his game. Last season, he was 5th in ESPN's RPM, 15th in PER, 12th in WS.

If I were a GM looking for a PG, I would certainly inquire.

So does this mean when we compare Jordan to Curry or Simmons, that  we're now going to hear that Jordan was playing against a bunch of drunk guys back then?  So he wasn't that good.

####### ignorant people who run this state.  Charlotte suffers for trying to do the right thing and extend rights

Seriously.  The people are to blame but McCrory is a ####### idiot for not vetoing that bill, for numerous reasons.

This reminds me of one time in college when I had a bit of a FT shooting slump.  I probably only averaged about 3 FT's per game, but for about a week I went like 1-5, 0-4 in our games and couldn't hit them in practice either.  My career FT% was around 80%.

So one day in practice, coach is having the team shoot FT's for conditioning.  The deal was shoot a 1 & 1.  If you miss the first everyone has to run 2 timed down & backs and you have to shoot again.  If you make the first, miss the 2nd, one down and back and you don't have to shoot again.  Make both and no one runs.  Everyone got a turn.

I missed 3 front ends in a row.  I'm sure the team was getting frustrated, but I couldn't figure it out and it was definitely mental at that point.  Finally after running for the third one, I punched the base of the goal in frustration and sprained my shooting hand wrist (which of course I hid from everyone).  I then shot my next FT and made it and coach mercifully didn't make me shoot the 2nd.  The whole team was pretty gassed at this point.

2 days later, we played a game and I still had a sprained wrist, but played with it anyway.  I shot 10 FT's that game (career high) but ended up going 9-10 with a sprained wrist.   Best I could tell I was so focused on just getting the ball to the rim that I didn't worry about making or missing them.

Moral of the story, these NBA big guys should probably just injure the wrist on their shooting hands. :coffee:

True story:

I remember in my YMCA youth league when my coach got it in his head that i wanted to be a better shooter. we practiced for like two weeks at his direction. drill after drill to improve the shooting with his encouragement and support. i was mediocre at best.

last game of the season and we're without a win still. the other team comes to the gym and they're wearing the same color t-shirts as we are. the decision is made to play "shirts vs skins", it will be determined by a coin toss and, of course, we lose. We're skins which makes it all the more pitiful somehow, seeing a team of scrawny 10-year old boys playing the worst basketball in the history of the game without shirts and short 80's shorts.

And yet, by some miracle, the game is almost tied in the final seconds. probably something like 10-9 given how awful we were. but in the final seconds, i am fouled and told to shoot free throws. Coach reminds me of all the practices, the drills, the progress I've made over the last two weeks. He tells me that I've got this and 2 easy free throws will get us the first - and only - win of the season. The futility of our season will be washed away with this lone victory now.

Coach's words of encouragement in my brain, I step to the line. Everyone in the gym - dozens of parents, kids, and my friends - falls silent and I feel them staring at my scrawny, shirtless body as do a practice dribble or two. It's just me out there and I'm nervous but I feel like I can do this. I move to release the ball from my fingertips when I hear an adult's voice booming in the cavernous gym....

"YOU SUCK!"

*clank*

The ball bounces listlessly off the rim and it's followed by a commotion. Parents and coaches murmuring behind me about the heckler. I am shaken and the second attempt is even more off than the first. They win, we lost, and the season ends. The opposing team celebrates, parents cheer and my teammates dissolve into the scene walking away with their families while I'm left to stand by the free throw line alone and shirtless.

I got pizza with my family later at a place off Hillsboro Rd called "Shakey's".

First of all, did you ever learn who the heckler was?

Secondly and most importantly, was Shakey's the place where you got to watch them assemble your pizza through a window to the kitchen?

One of the parents from the other team.

Yes, Shakey's had that experience for the kids. I don't think it still exists in Nashville.

Cool story bro

We had a Shakey's in St. Paul when I was a kid, but they are long gone from here too.  I remember the experience being better than the pizza.

Glad to see that Derrick Rose has become a little more grounded after have some difficulties the last half decade.

How high are expectations for the revamped New York Knicks? New point guard Derrick Rose curiously said some people have put New York in the same "super team" class as the Golden State Warriors.

"With these teams right now, they're saying us and Golden State are the super teams, and they're trying not to build that many super teams, and [commissioner] Adam Silver came out with the statement and this and that," Rose said during a recent interview with NBA.com.

"And the expectations I think of us, we just want to win. Talking to [Carmelo Anthony] and all the guys who've been around. You've got Brandon [Jennings] who just signed for one year, he's got to show why he's there. I've got to show why I'm there. Joakim [Noah] has to show why he's there. Everybody's trying to prove themselves."

Rose added that expectations for the Knicks are "high" for the coming season, but he doesn't specifically identify who has put the Knicks in the same class as the Warriors.

The comparison to Golden State would be a clumsy one, considering the Warriors are coming off of a 73-win season, have reached back-to-back NBA Finals and signed free agent Kevin Durant this summer.

The Knicks, coming off of a 32-win season, added Rose, Noah, Jennings and Courtney Lee in the offseason. New York has an improved roster, but not one that would be put in the same class as Golden State.

In addition to talking expectations for the Knicks, Rose said he's looking forward to his opportunity to play in the New York market. The former MVP has been limited to playing in just 40 percent of his games since the start of the 2013-14 season due to various ailments, including two significant knee injuries.

"I'm going into a great market," Rose said. "I'm going into a city where they love basketball -- basketball is a culture there, and they love players that play hard. And I think I fit that. ... I think this is a huge opportunity for me, and I'm preparing myself right now."

No one could even write this line if they were doing an Eastbound and Down/7 Days in Hell type show.

"With these teams right now, they're saying us and Golden State are the super teams, and they're trying not to build that many super teams, and [commissioner] Adam Silver came out with the statement and this and that," Rose said during a recent interview with NBA.com.
