sixers waive hollis thompson.  Apparently his final year would become guaranteed on January 10.  He can be useful for somebody's bench.
Kinda surprised he was waived. Seems like a useful player for a team to keep around. Plus, I'm bummed because he looked like a decent player for my BTTF team.

NBA fans of the FFA:  please join my burgeoning twitter-based movement to vote DeRozan to the NBA all-star game.  This would not only bump the undeserving Dwyane Wade from the starting lineup in favor of the more deserving DeRozan, but also hopefully free up a much deserved bench roster spot for John Wall and/or Kemba Walker.

It's good for the Raptors, the Wizards and the Hornets. If I could find a way to include the T-Wolves in this I'd have like 80% of the thread regulars.

Nice. Is this new with fan votes counting for only 25%?
It's new, but fan vote is 50%.  The way it works is they combine the players' ranking in each poll, count the fan vote twice, divide by four, and take the players with the lowest average.

So let's say Zaza finishes second behind KD in fan vote, but maybe 50th(?) in player and media voting.  His number would be 26.  And say Draymond stays at 5th, but also finishes 5th in media and player voting.  His number would be 5, obviously.  It wouldn't even be close.  Even if Zaza is 20th in both player and media voting (no chance), he's still at 8.8, way behind where any of the deserving guys will end up. Everyone else in the current top 10 except Blake and maybe Gasol will finish ahead of that number.

Long story short, the system was adjusted to prevent this exact thing from happening.  He won't be there.

Didn't even take Dwight half a season to ruin the Hawks. Got to appreciate the efficiency.

Rumor has it Milsap is right behind Korver.

OFFICIAL ARM'S RACE

looks like Korver is going to the Cavs. Oh My.
Perfect fit.  I still don't think it's nearly enough to beat the Warriors, but they're certainly closer than they were yesterday.

Granted he's a lot smarter than I am about this stuff, but LaRoux was sort of pu-pu-ing the move vis a vis a series against GS in his GS podcast.  I sort of disagree since it allows them to better stagger LeBron and Irving now.  Granted those two will play 42+ minutes anyway in the series, but those 12 minutes combined per game could be large and going from Shumpert or Liggins to Korver should be a biggish upgrade.

There's also no assurance the JR comes back 100%.

This might be a bad thing for Millsap trade possibilities. They got more for Korver than I would have anticipated so that may have them thinking they could get a huge haul for Millsap.

I don't know who LaRoux is, but IMO you can't stop Golden State with defense unless maybe you've got Patrick Beverley, three Kawhi Leonards and Rudy Gobert as your starting five.  You need to be able to score with them and hope you get lucky. Korver helps them keep up with the scoring.  And I was with you on the Smith thing, no idea what they'll get from him.  You know what you get from Korver- a guy who can hit clean look catch-and-shoot threes like other guys shoot layups.  Seems like a perfect fit for a passer like LeBron.

Lets trade other useful players from the Hawks:

Thabo to the Clippers for Paul Pierce, Alan Anderson and Brice Johnson - Gets the Clippers under the tax line and gives them a huge upgrade at the 3. Gives the Hawks somebody that could develop into a nice backup PF.

Howard to Dallas for a lottery protected 2018 1st rounder, Bogut, Harris, Powell, AJ Hammons - I don't think Cuban is ready to rebuild and Bogut has been hurt and awful this year. Dallas is only 4.5 games out of the playoffs. Also gets Dallas out of the tax. For Atlanta this gives them a reset from the Howard signing and Powell who looks like a nice player on a reasonable contract.

The Millsap trades are out there. As the Nuggets keep losing, it makes them a little less likely. Toronto probably makes the most sense with the combination of assets, need, and a lack of future flexibility. Boston should be pursing as well.

Magic were all-in on Millsap last year when he was a FA. I wonder if they will try to move some of their crap pieces for him so they can have like 15 centers and PFs.

Leroux may be right but he's also a GS homer, so take it for what it's worth.

Hezonja, Payton, Green, and a 1st for Millsap. The Magic could roll out Millsap at PG, Gordon at SG, Ibaka at SF, Biyombo at PF, and Vucevic at C. It would be great.

Realistically, they could make a nice offer with some combination of Gordon, Hezonja, Vuecvic, and picks. If they could dump Biyombo too, they could have a really fun (small) athletic lineup. Playing Gordon almost exclusively at SF is probably the worst decision of the offseason and the offseason included all the weird #### that NYK and Chicago did as well as Atlanta shunning Horford for Howard.

The gordon thing gets so mad that I can't even watch their games now. Every time I see him trying to dribble on the perimeter while Bismack jumps up and down with his hands up it drives me insane.

Cavs will just punch Curry and Durant in the face, Green will go bonkers, and GS will melt down again.

Can't believe the Hawks got a 1st for Korver.  Still, 2019 should be within Lebron's window of goodness, so the pick shouldn't be anything good.  Thought the Cavs would have just pushed the Hawks to do it for salary relief (Andy's trade exception still exists I believe).

The Cavs picks is equal to a 76ers 2nd round pick. Not that great of a haul.

ETA: The 1st pick in the 2nd round is probably more valuable as it isn't guaranteed money.

Don't understand why anyone could hate on this move for both teams. Korver was a UFA.

Cavs certainly got better and they've already proven they can beat the Dubs 4 times in a row.

I remember thinking something similar when the Lakers traded for Howard and Nash. You're probably right, but you never know.

Group of NBA nerds trying to get a movement going referring to future draft picks not by the year hey are conveyed, but the likely age the future pick is right now.

So instead of saying the Wizards gave up a 2021 second round pick for Trey Burke, you say Trey Burke got traded for a 15-year-old to be named later.

Tonight was the  most that I've really watched Utah (because I wanted to see a preview of the 2018 WCC finals).

####### that is an interesting team.

#breakingnewsiknow

really should be watching more of them.  The whole NW division is pretty fascinating actually.  Probably the most intriguing top-to-bottom.

Well on top of that--to think they are doing this well so far largely with Hill missing a lot of time, Favors missing time and getting eased back in--and Hayward missing time to start the year.  Once they are fully healthy and cohesive--they could be one of those teams that are scary to face in the playoffs.

Utah will end up winning the division going away, they are a lot better than OKC. I think Portland and the Thunder will wind up right around .500 and get sacrificed to the Warriors and Spurs, respectively.

Solid mix of :homer:  and :nerd:  here...

As a Knicks fan I fully support Rose sabotaging himself from getting a long term offer this summer.  Keep it up

Hopefully the losing continues, Melo wants out, and the Knicks don't try anything quick and just build around Porzingis.

A fan can dream right?
