the Sixers hate is strong in here quite often, but you can't deny this team would be a pain in the ### to play. Brett Browne has these guys playing hard with not much talent

The Nets are just running away with the worse record...as a Celts fan I was hoping they would be awful but this has been too easy...

I challenge you to find a player to ever make an all-star team playing a similar amount of minutes on a team similarly as bad as the 76ers. The only guys that you'll find are legacy players like Kobe from a couple years ago (I looked this up for you, the most similar comparison would be Jack Molinas in the 50s who made the All-Star game before being banned for life mid-season for an NCAA point shaving scandal, later murdered in a mob hit). There is no recent precedent for Embiid making it. Here is the list of All-Stars to make the game playing less than 1400 minutes in a season, which is what Embiid is projected for.

On the other hand, Millsap is the best player on a team that is 4th in the conference and is arguably the best defender at his position in the NBA, certainly top 2.

If all the All-Star game was going for was entertainment factor rather than a reward for consistent play, Embiid would certainly make it, but that's not how it is voted.
32 pts, 4-6 from three in a loss to one of the best teams in the West with one of the best players in the league going for 50. Oh, but take the guy with worse stats and has a better team record. Embiid should've went.

I'd like to hear someone make the case for Joel Embiid over Otto Porter.  Porter has more total points, rebounds, assists and steals than Embiid, and only 33 turnovers to Embiid's 117.  Porter also has a .632 eFG and is hitting 46.5% from 3 while capably defending three positions for the team with the best record in the East since December 1.

Yeah, it is great to see and frankly I have to imagine they will be in the same spot next season as well when incredibly the Celts will own their #1 again.

It's the gift that keeps on giving...just don't see a way the Nets are not at the bottom next year...their options to get better are so limited...

I really like the Jaylen Brown pick...the kid still has a long way to go but there is just a ton of talent there and it appears the effort-level is definitely there as well...

Butler is on the block now and if Chicago would bite on Avery Bradley, 1 of the Nets picks and some filler then make that deal. Not sure what Orlando would be looking for in exchange for Vucevic.
It would be tough to give up this year's Net pick...it appears to be a very strong draft and the C's are guaranteed to be between 1-4...Scal was on TV the other night saying Fultz has the potential to be a generational talent...Vucevic would be nice, especially if they can nibble around the edges of their assets and not have to give up anything real legit...I have no clue what the Magic would be looking for...the guy I keep paying attention to is Haywood...with the season the Jazz are having I would think they have no intentions of dealing him...but he is a free agent after this season and if he doesn't want to stay in Utah he would probably be right at the top of the C's target list this offseason...adding him and the potential #1 without having to give up anything (unless they did a sign and trade with Utah) would be a big-time upgrade for this team...

Porter doesn't play in Philly. You musn't realize that they've had a winning month for the first time in 6 years and now think they have a competent team.

Agreed Porter is the better overall player at this point in time. Embiid fouls and turns it over too much. Embiid's mainly a scoring machine. There doesn't seem to be a way to slow him down right now. Fouling him isn't working. He shoots a ridiculous number of free throws on a per minute basis (more per 36 min than Harden) and hits them at a very good rate.

You know who else is a generational talent? Jimmy Butler. If I were Ainge, I'd flip at least one of the Nets picks for a guy like that without thinking twice.

I will take Butler in a heartbeat...I have no problem dealing the 2018 Net pick either...but right now the 2017 pick is the front-runner for the #1 pick which means you may (no guarantees)  get a legit all-star while not having to give up one asset...if you can get Butler and keep that pick I would not hesitate...

The Rockets are a below average defense with one of the highest paces in the NBA, giving up the 25th most points in the league, that is a game that was expected to be high scoring. Embiid certainly had a very good game, and he has been a revelation for the Sixers, but his play has not merited an All-Star selection.

And I understand when you say "worse stats" you mean per game/per 36, but Millsap has missed only two games and has more points, rebounds, assists, steals, threes, and fewer turnovers than Embiid. He has had more impact on his team's play than Embiid. Millsap is the better player today, regardless of the counting stats that you'll quote, and has a much longer track record of being an elite player.

And before you point to Embiid being the cause of the Sixers recent success, in games that Noel has played more than 13 minutes (all since Dec 29), the Sixers are 8-3. When McConnell starts (all but one of those are during their recent surge), they are 10-4. January has also seen only 4 games from Okafor, three of which have been losses. I think there is much more to their recent play than Embiid, but don't let that get in the way of your argument.

Seems like fake news tbh.

How's Porter's Twitter game?

There is literally nothing better in sports than watching the Clippers get their ##### kicked off.

I get Lebron's frustration with how they've fared recently, just not sure what other cards the Cavs have to play. It seems odd to imply that the front office maybe isn't committed enough to winning when their payroll is a gazillion dollars and they've only made moves to improve their team's immediate fortunes since he got back.

Yeah, Curry was ####### rolling.

Meanwhile in Charlotte, the Hornets fought back brilliantly. On the last play to tie the game, Walker did not take the last shot. He drove to the rim, got a little too deep to make a play. With the entire Kings roster converged on him, he kicked out to Kaminsky for a wide open 3. Absolutely. Wide. Open........... He ####### airballed it.

I'm seriously not trying to be a jerk here but you seem to be cherry-picking.  The Houston Rockets are still an NBA team, a very good one at that, so whatever their league ranks on D is I don't think really matters.

As far as the Millsap over Embiid argument, I know 'Sap is a very good NBA player.  His stats are padded up higher than Embiid's because he has more minutes.  Don't really think the minutes argument is entirely fair because if Embiid had the same amount of minutes I truly believe his overall stats would be right there and probably better than Millsaps.  That is the Sixers doing, they're scared of him hurting his leg again.

I also know that the Sixers recent success isn't all entirely on Embiid but you can't deny that he shows a fire and will that this team hasn't for the past 4 or 5 years. He has helped elevate a lot of his teammates game.  It can be infectious.  So that's why I find a lot of correlation between the Sixers recent winning and Embiid.

I'm admittedly a bias party in this argument.  It's been very very hard watching the Sixers be in tank mode since Hinkie came in.  Just very refreshing to see Embiid's energy and talent.  Something they haven't seen around Philly since AI was playing.

But with that said, Millsap just dropped a 37/19 in one full hour of game play (wow).  So what the hell do I know.  :lmao:

I saw some absurd stat recently about him having only a 31% on wide open 3s.  He is absolutely terrible beyond the arc but keeps throwing them up.  I guess you have to in that situation, but he shouldn't even be on the damn floor.

I'm sure his counting stats would significantly better than Millsap's if he played as many minutes, but that is kind of the point. How is somebody that has only played a third of his team's minutes an All-Star? Especially if that person is on a team that is going to win 30 games in that season. Putting up 20 and 8 is a lot easier to do on a team going nowhere than it is on a team that is gunning for 50+ wins.

I'm a Nuggets fan and Jokic has been outplaying every big man in the NBA, including Embiid, the last 1.5 months. In fact the Nuggets are the most efficient offense in the NBA since December 15 (when he took over as the starting center), but you don't see me calling him an All-Star because he doesn't have the reputation, the Nuggets are still below .500, and he hasn't played as many minutes as his contemporaries.

If Embiid has 1200 minutes at this time next year and he is still playing this well, you may have a gripe, but for now just be happy that the Sixers are relevant for the first time since Iverson left.

Do we have a policy on posting the NBA players' political comments?  I try to keep that stuff out of here unless it's funny or something- Lowry was kinda funny.

"Any chance you want to try it again, without swearing?"

"No."
As they (and members of the other major sports leagues) all keep saying, it's pretty damn hard to 'stick to sports' in a time like this.  Popovich and Kerr, especially, have made multiple poignant statements over the last few months.

Yeah, especially with the NBA. I put the Pop comments in another thread last week. Still I try to keep it out since we have other places to discuss such things.

I like the Lowry shtick though, both here and in general.  He and DeRozan are the best bromance in sports.

I beg all of you to keep any player/team political views out of the thread.  Keep it to impact on the games or player transaction and of course any player shenanigans.

Talking about players or coaches views will ruin the thread.  Exception of course being if actual NBA players are unable to play and impact on the team.

Seems interesting that the Embiid all-star "snub" is still being debated. I get that the dude is playing really well and has helped a team that has been garbage in recent history become relevant--but I still cannot get close to calling him an all-star this season.  He's frankly not played enough to really consider--and the team is still not "relevant" enough to overlook that fact.   To me--I think arguing that Gobert was an all-star snub this season has far more merit than saying Embiid was.  The Jazz started the season with no Hayward, Derrick Favors missing time and being a shell of himself, no Alec Burns, and have had George Hill and Rodney Hood constantly injured--and he has been the one player that has really carried that team.   In my opinion--Gobert got snubbed waaaay worse than Embiid did.  I actually think that Gobert probably should have made it in over Hayward considering the time Hayward has missed.  I know it's just an all star game--but I do find the discussion of who gets in/who misses to be pretty fascinating.

It isn't being debated outside of Philly.

All Star isn't about nothing more than The Story. It's not a real game.  Millsap ain't the story right now.  Embiid is.

It isn't being debated outside of Philly.
not really. Sports radio here maybe, but like Groovus said pages back, no one really cares all that much about the All Star game. Pretty sure most Sixers fan would take a win tonight against the Kings over the all star appearance (and why the F Embiid isn't in this one is frustrating and also scary. If there was any game to win for the Sixers, it would be against the Kings). It's just something to talk about

The SIxers hate in here is funny though. For a team that will likely get beat pretty good by the Kings tonight, the care for the Sixers is peculiar. And as for SIxers fans, we are allowed to get excited, and it isn't simply for the short-sightedness of this season, it is the realization that the Sixers are set up to be a top in 3-5 years. While the rest of the teams fight for playoff spots and get excited about getting the 8th seed, the Sixers are strategically set-up to be a potential contender for the actual championship

Poor Colangelo just can't in with Jahlil. I am guessing they started him tonight for potential trade partners, but the guy just does not help this team at all. I would love if he could get a 1st (from 20-30) for Okafor for next year or something, not sure what he will be able to pull from any team in the league. Shame cause he will benefit on another team with a scheme better fit for him and not being the focus of the offense too

Fellas,

I haven't been around much but with football over, I have a little more time to catch up with the season. With that being said...

I'm so ####### done with Orlando. This team is pure garbage. They are trying to trade Serge Ibaka. You know, the guy they gave up a 1st and Oladipo for a few months ago.

If that doesn't make you scratch your head, there is plenty more. Like completely punting a year of progress for Aaron Gordon by playing him on the perimeter so they can run Ibaka and Biyombo down low. I mean holy ####. Biyombo has to be one of the worst signings of the year. I mean he does some good things but he is making a fortune and can't score. Like at all.

They hung their hat on D. Which I'm ok with, but they can't ####### shoot. But to top that off they are one of the worst defensive teams in the league. Not a joke.

Their "top" two SGs have been hurt the past 8 games and POS (former HoFer) Hezonja can't get on the floor. I mean holy ####, how is that possible??

Fire Hennigan. Fire the first 20 people that come through the door tomorrow. I don't care if it's a janitor. This team ####### blows. Oh and the Lakers are so inept the magic are going to lose a first round pick. #### that team and their ### grabbing fans too.

Bull#### franchise, bull#### ownership.

Shut it down. Please.

Totally onboard with GOB on the Magic.  Hennigan is beyond inept.  I do like Vogel, and Scott Skiles looks like a damn genius walking away from that contract last year.

Ask yourself:  When was the last time a coach walked out on getting paid for four years because they players he had sucked too much.  Coaches always just stick it out and get fired and collect the cash.  Not Skiles.  He knew this was a train wreck.  And Hennigan getting bamboozled by the sixers to give up two firsts so he could move up two spots to take Elfrid Payton was the beginning of a constant run of inexcusable errors.  Then to give up Oladipo and another first to rent Ibaka.  Damn ####### genius.  I bet Hennigans phone rings all the time, next to Vlade he is the biggest lay in the league.

Point guards have to be leaders.  Anyone with a haircut that looks like your wearing a ballcap without even having one on is never going to be a leader.

Demarcus Cousins is a legit beast.

ETA: is scary seeing him wasted for the next few years. Would be fun to see a trade, like Bos-Sac where Boston gives a pick or 2 of theirs from Brooklyn, and you put Cousins in with that team. I don't know the Celtics roster too well, but i don't see why Cousins and Horford can't play 4 and 5

76ers cling on to get a "twofer" in beating the Kings.

7 players in double digits with no Embiid. And Okafor can still score.
Kings are not going along with the plan though. Those dudes are fighting for every win, making that pick swap a lot harder then it should be.
