***2016 MLB Playoff thread: Cubs win for first time since sliced bread hit market

Eephus: is that true what Rosenthal said about Kirk Reuter being legendary amongst the fans? I would have thought Jason Schmidt would have been the guy during that era.
Schmidt had a few good years but Woody is a Giants legend.  The team still makes an annual visit to Rueter's spread when they visit St. Louis.

Kershaw/Ross in Game 4 in LA today, as expected.

Jinxing myself I'm sure, but as a Nats fan I like this.  The Kershaw I saw on Friday night was not the same guy who has been able to bounce back in short rest in the postseason in the past.  And Scherzer at home vs what is now guaranteed to be an inferior starter in Game 5 is a nice safety valve.  Nats would have probably been slight underdogs in a potential ace rematch in Game 5, they'll be favored now.

Great scenario here for the Nats. They get Kershaw on short rest and he didn't really look that great in Game 1. Even if the Nats lose, they get Scherzer going at home in Game 5 against either Hill on short rest or a rookie. Definitely the favorite now.

-260/+240 line surprised me a bit, I would have expected something closer to -210/+170. Books seem to think we'll get normal Kershaw, not the guy who struggled three days ago when he cracked 100 pitches for the first time since June. They know better than me, of course, so if that's what they say is most likely then I assume that is what's most likely.  May also be a function of the Nats planning to go with two right-handers and probably not having their best lefty available against the Dodgers' lopsided roster.

Yeah, you never really want to put all your eggs in a Game 5 (or 7) basket, but I have to think that's an ideal situation for the Nats.

  I agree. I'd say it looks good for the Nats.

Not watching right now, just following along online while at work. Seems like they are getting to Kershaw again. Must take more advantage of this than they did in game 1. Need more than 3 runs in five innings against a struggling Kershaw.

WTF was Werth thinking on the J turner single? He yielded to Trea who was going to have a 0 percent chance to get there. IMO Werth could have had that relatively easily. What a bonehead that guy is.

It did look like a circuitous route to the ball. I thought it should have been caught by somebody.

A Kershaw curve, thrown in the post season, might be the most exciting pitch in baseball.

The crowd noise was right in sync with the motion of the thing. Fun to watch.
