***2016 MLB Playoff thread: Cubs win for first time since sliced bread hit market (1 Viewer)

Pete Rose and A-Rod seem to be stirring up conflict where none exists regarding Maddon pinch-hitting for Lester. I thought it was obvious Maddon waited until Lester was in the on-deck circle before pulling him so he could get an ovation from the crowd.

I've been a Dodgers fan since I was a little kid.  I went to Chavez Ravine for Game 1 of the 74 World Series.  I had Reggie Jackson and Gregg Nettles tear my heart out in 77 and 78.  I saw Fernando pitch in 81.   I was at home when Gibson took Eck yard,

This is the first Dodgers team I've believed in since.   Even in losing, this team showed some heart.  Kershaw will, by sheer force of will, put this team on his back and win a game.   Dodgers in 6.

I think the IBB to Heyward was maybe worse than the one to Coghlan. At least the Coghlan one depletes Chicago's bench and pen a little more, and the gap between how bad you're effed down two runs to one is bigger than the gap between three runs to two.

Credit to Blanton, he's fashioned himself into a pretty good reliever the last couple years. He should be more than capable of taking on Heyward in that situation.

That was brutal.  He got away with the first one and I was hoping he would not immediately go back to the well but...oof.  I thought it was the right move from Roberts, as I thought Blanton could have gotten through the inning and I liked the Dodgers' chances in the 9th with Chapman out, but Blanton picked a most inopportune time to replace his  slider with his gopher ball instead.

Can someone explain why Maddon pulled Lester after 6 innings and 77 pitches?  Was he greedy and thought this game was wrapped up and he might be able to start Lester in game 4?

Baseball :nerd:  were too hard on a 22-year-old Baez last year. "Will never be able to control K rate, too aggressive at plate, bad pitch recognition," etc. I'm a big believer and his star is rising. Lowered K rate, fast on the bases, decent power, and a phenomenal fielder.

And just wait until he's comfortable enough to start employing his power profile, this is a 40 HR upside guy IMO. One of my favorite young players in the game.
Everything I've seen from this guy just looks like an all-star and completely legit. Looked bad on a slider or two, but compensated nicely.

The game was still really close, there was a runner in scoring position, and you have a fully rested bullpen. I would have fallen out of my chair in shock had Maddon done anything other than what he did. Even if it didn't work, it was the right call.

Here we go again...

A prominent indigenous activist and architect is seeking a court ruling that would prevent the Cleveland Indians from wearing their regular jerseys, using their team name and displaying their logo when they play against the Blue Jays in Toronto this week.
I'm not saying the court action is without merit, but why not bring it up when we were there in July? Oh, wait. No one was paying attention then.

This is really difficult. I love Hendricks, Arrieta, Bryant, Rizzo, Maddon, and DD is forcing me to want to love Baez. But I really want to root against the Cubs. What the hell am I supposed to do here?

The contrast between Kershaw and Hendricks is something to behold. Kershaw is sheer force, he just overwhelms with his stuff. Hendricks is movement and razor sharp precision, hitters can't get a clean shot on him. The Gonzalez homerun seemed accidental rather than grooved.

Wicked smart defensive play.

Chapman and Jansen are both going to get some record closer contracts in the off-season.

Chapman and Miller might be the top two relievers in baseball, but Jansen and Britton aren't far behind.

Jose Bautista says there are "circumstances" working against the Jays in the ALCS :lmao:

And then the Indians replied:

A social media editor for the Indians' verified Twitter account seized on the quote to introduce their theory for why the Jays scored only one run in their two losses to begin the series.

Replying to USA Today reporter Mike Vorkunov, who tweeted Bautista's full quote, the Indians' account sent out a photograph montage featuring relievers Andrew Miller and Cody Allen and starters Corey Kluber and Josh Tomlin accompanied by the word "circumstances."
Their twitter bio now reads:

Official twitter of the 2016 AL Central champions. We control all of the circumstances. #RallyTogether
:lmao:   :lmao:

I think he might pitch 2-2 also.  Only scenario I can really see them wait until game 6 is if they are up 3-1.
yea, but if they're up 3-1, he can end it right there in LA.  i can see a rationalization for all scenarios.

also, roberts is a big #####.  if he's going out to get Kershaw, he can't get talked out of it on the mound.  almost cost them a 2-run HR last night.

I'm guessing Kershaw said something along the lines of, "#### you Dave, I am your daddy.  I've got Friedman by the balls, he is going to let me do whatever I want, and you're just a puppet.  Also, you cost us the game last night.  Now go get your ####### shinebox."
