Seems like a very reasonable deal, for a stretch 4 that is only 27
Allegedly 27 and he is much more of a 5 at this point than a 4, IMO. Given the talent level of the east, they kinda needed to resign him, but it's not a good deal for either 2017 or the next two years in terms of value.

Sounds like the Raptors are likely shopping Valanciunas. He's a talented 25 year old on a pretty reasonable contract but I have no idea who would even take him, let alone give up an asset. Boston after they strike out on Hayward? Minnesota so they can run out an all-center lineup? The Nets?

Ick - decent at what he does but pretty much the reason good teams dont have centers anymore. My hope for the Celts if they dont get Gordo is to find a # under $20mil that the Nugs wont match on the good Plumlee, Stevens likes all 5 of his guys to be shooting options but Mason is a hella hi-post passer so would fit his side2side offense and do the gruntwork down low. Plus he's packagable tradewise. Said when the season ended i'd prefer Butler & Plumlee to Fultz & Gordo

If I was in charge of the Nuggets, there is pretty much no number too low for me to match for Plumlee. 3 years, 20 million? Enjoy.

I totally agree about Valanciunas, but a good traditional center can still be a good piece through the regular season. That means he is pretty much worthless to the top 6-8 teams in the NBA, and probably to the bottom 6-8 teams as well. He's too good to totally tank with but he'll never be good enough as a modern center to help when you do get good.

Average starter is around $13 million/yr.  he had 5 win shares last year so at least a competent backup big which the sixers needed and didn't want to get any long term deals.  If he could have gotten any more guaranteed for more years, he probably would have taken it.
Also, FWIW, Johnson did average 6.5 and 4.6 (not that that is amazing of course).  The Sixers needed another backup big and a shooting guard.  They also are trying to maintain maximum flexibility for the next few years to re-up all their young guys at much higher prices, assuming that they pan out as they hope, and also potentially to sign a big FA next year.  They wanted to fill in roles this year and not eat up all their space for years to come.  So the Sixers paid a very healthy premium for sure on Redick and Johnson because the value of the length of the deal to the Sixers.  Otherwise, those guys would not be willing to sign one-year deals.  Besides the fact that they have eleventy billion dollars to spend this year and #### Josh Harris sitting on his pile of money.

Now the Sixers' 5 highest-paid players have played a total of 23 minutes in a Sixers' uniform.  (damn you Jerryd Bayless for screwing up the perfection).

Kings out on Gallo and Milsap, Sixers and Wolves out of money... setting up very nicely for Denver to get both on reasonable deals.

it seems like yesterday lebron was taking 12million to play with bosh and wade.......now langston galloway makes 8 per, 23 for reddick is a good deal and steph makes 40.

If they could keep them both to 3 year contracts, the money doesn't matter all that much, within reason (less than 50 a year combined would probably keep them out of the tax in year 3). They might even be able to turn some of the rest of their spare parts into something worthwhile.

Sounds like the Bulls are about to sign Teodosic to a 4/48 deal. In vacuum, it's probably just a slight overpay on a contract that is a year too long, but for a lottery bound team with like 8 guards on the roster, including the two that were the focal point of trading a top 15 player, it makes zero ####### sense. At least he can shoot.

I don't believe the rumor is true.  It's mainly coming from overseas.  The Chicago Tribune beat reporter (who is usually well sourced) says the Bulls don't have interest.

I think they were considering him a few weeks ago but things changed after the Butler trade.

For your sake, I hope it's not a true rumor. That would be the worst signing of the off-season to this point.

I really think you are downplaying the Sixers youth and fragility. A 6 or 7 seed would be huge for them
It's over optimism. Being a Bulls fan in Philly I saw some Sixers fans putting Simmons in the HoF and Sixers as Champions by 2020. Heck I remember a lot of fans hated the Embiid pick actually. I get being optimistic but I think a 7-8 seed for Philly is the most reasonable do to Health and youth.

I need a little help. Trying to find a way to bet a Sixers homer that Monk will be better than Fultz. Short term and long term (two different bets). I don't care the criteria, but need a way to decide who won.ROY voting is imperfect...see MCW. As is scoring, though I don't really care. Any ideas? I think it will be more than obvious from Day 1 that Monk is and will be better than Fultz, but I just need some sort of criteria here.

I may just recommend an FFA vote for the winner.

Also considering, $100 on the first to make an AS team, then double or nothing on the first one to make an all NBA team.
All Star games are tricky because that's basically a popularity vote anymore in sports. Which year was it in the NBA where about 5 guys got hosed on being All Stars because they weren't as popular as others. I mean it could work but I think playoff success will be one way and another could be PPG in X amount of seasons, rebs per game and Assists per game plus Steals and such and maybe their PER avg for the first 3-4 seasons. Also Injuries can't be an excuse. I actually won a Bet with a Sixers homer friend who said MCW was gonna be a perennial all star and that Noel would be a Sixer still. The easiest bets to win are the ones you know you are right and the other person is betting off of emotion. This happened with the same friend in 06 when Florida played Ohio State in the NCS. Basically regurgitated these "experts" takes on Florida where I said Florida had a better SOS and played in a better conference. He said OSU would kill Florida. I asked him if he wanted to turn it into a bet and he said sure was so confident bet me 300 and I told him ok how about if we double it and Florida wins by at least 30? He said sure. I won 600. I won another 200 a few yrs later when his PSU team (He went there so of corse a PSU homer) and Florida played and Florida won. I think my buddy has paid me over 2K since we've been friends.

Yeah that rumor doesn't seem true. KC Johnson the beat guy he's talking about seems to think they are out and he's well sourced compared to Joe Cawley who usually just throws something up on the wall and hope it sticks. I don't know how that guy still has a job. There's another guy like him who writes for the 700 level in Philly younger guy named Andrew Kulp who's just as much of an idiot.

If you guys can predict the team's health, please share before I make preseason bets. If you guys predicted Bayliss wrist breaking preseason or Shawn Long stepping on Simmons ankle then more power to you. If Embiid's injury was his foot or back I'd be more worried.

Funny thing with the Sixers is that their team post-embiid injury is their bench for this year. not sure of a team where they had 4/5 of their starters coming in like this group is

Embiid has had multiple injuries already and has only played 31 games and has been in the league for 3 yrs already. Noel had his fair of issues as well but he's already gone. Simmons injury is similar to Yao Ming that forced him to retire. Yeah Durant had the same injury but different guys comeback from similar injuries differently. I've had this type of discussion with severely people who keep Bringing up AP and his Knee and coming back. Guys are all different. The problem I have with most 76ers fans and I'm sure others do is anyone says anything negative about the team and you guys act like we insulted your mommas. A lot go the negatives are legit worries by people. No need to get so defensive over them. I mean you guys here have been overall better then others I've talked too but still. Me personally 76ers fans are becoming almost as annoying as the Patriot fans I met when I was in Boston visiting a family member these guys. I put up an article yesterday on a top prospect for next year who I really like and multiple Sixers fan friends commented like it was guaranteed he'd be a Sixes next year.

Have to remember 4/5 of that group was only starting do to injury. I suspect the starting 5 is this:

Embiid

Simmons (not a fan of him here at #4) I mean they could put RoCov on bench Saric in PF and Simmons at 3 but you are losing a massive amounts of Def there.

RoCov

Reddick

Fultz

Here's your Kings news

Reporting with @MarcJSpearsESPN: ESPN sources say Sacramento offered Washington restricted free-agent Otto Porter the max.

in range of 4yrs for 100M Chris Haynes reporting Wiz are confident matching any and all offers to Porter.

Porter certainly played max level hoops this year, but man, him getting 4/100 is a perfect example of how hard it is to build a championship contender.

I realize he may still have some upside nut even that feels like it tops out at "3rd best player on a quasi-contender."   For 25 million a year. Ooph

Washington is getting hosed by the fact that Sacramento and Brooklyn have a ton of cap space and no one else to spend it on. Wall will probably be upset that a guy he just threw under the bus last week is getting paid more than he is.

Though Mr wall can agree to that 4/168 whenever he is ready.

Is there any reason Hayward wouldn't go to Boston?  The only white star on that team would be treated like a god, and his jersey sales would be in the top 3 the day after his signing.
i feel bad, but the whole "white NBA player" was the 1st thing i thought with him and rumors to Celtics. Does seem like something Boston should go all in and the rumors are making it sound like the visit went well.

Grizzlies are a funny team because living in the NE part of the country, I hear literally 0 about this team. I am glad they seem to be trying though:

Free agent G Ben McLemore is finalizing a two-year, $10.7 million deal with the Grizzlies, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Kings declined to make McLemore a restricted free agent this summer, and he was previous linked to the Lakers, Knicks and Bucks. He could be a nice fit in Memphis with both Tony Allen and Vince Carter in free agency, leaving a big hole at the SG spot. McLemore never quite found his footing in Sacramento, but could enter the fantasy conversation in a favorable spot with the Grizzlies.

Paul Millsap to Denver for 3/90. Great signing for them. They might have enough wiggle room by shedding a contract or two (Nelson and Barton?) to resign Gallo as well or make a play on one of the other FA wings.
