2017 College Football Thread: Hawaiian QB devastated to find out Jesus was "kinda rooting for Georgia" (1 Viewer)

Outside of Clay Travis, I don't think there is a single media member (maybe outside of other local UT guys) who isn't saying something similar to Patrick. Yahoo and USA Today both came out with lengthy stories saying similar things.
I've heard Bradley has even denied that he ever told McQuery anything about Shiano having witnessed anything.

oh

in terms of national shows i only heard DP today. everything else i'd heard or read last night in to this morning was "they can't hire Schiano because he did something shady".

At this point the Vols may as well bring back Fulmer.  Isn’t he on payroll anyway?
How old is he? I thought he got a raw deal when they let him go. Not a bad idea if he was interested but it’s probably been to long for him to really consider it.

Edit: he turned 67 in September. Might be a good option for a temporary position.

this morning Dan Patrick came out against Tennessee fans for nixing the Schiano hire

iirc, he said that in the hours of testimony and reams of paperwork tied to the case Schiano's name only came up once and that was because of the story already reported that McQueary said Schiano admitted seeing Sandusky raping a kid

but in all the other testimony, all the other evidence, his name never appears again. no one else says he has done anything wrong except McQueary and his story is "i overheard Schiano telling someone else...."

i didn't, and won't, go through all the stories, articles, etc. to try and verify whether or not that's true but found it interesting that Patrick was willing to go on national radio and throw out an opinion that runs counter to the national storyline today.

he had Finebaum on as well but i didn't catch what he had to say on it.  did anyone else hear that segment today?

eta: before someone calls me a child molester, an idiot or a homer... i'm just relaying what DP said this morning.
FWIW, there was never a conversation between Schiano and McQueary.  McQueary heard it from Tom Bradley who said Schiano told him.  It's a game of telephone.  Bradley and Schiano both denied that the conversation ever happened.

Read Peter King's MMQB and he leads with it.  Concludes with "Innuendo won.  The witch-hunters won.  It's a sad time in America".

Good for him - its a very positive step in his crawling back from this.

That said, this was not an off colored remark, a distasteful joke, it wasn't even the flippant use of that word in some context of "locker room talk" - it was the use of the N-word in all it's racist glory, to emphasize exactly what he thought at the time.

Also, maybe it's just me, but if I were a Tide fan, I don't need him Rolling Tide at the end of that.

So if Tennessee hires Jeff Brohm (who has head coaching experience) over Tee Martin, will there be more demonstrations? (Albert Haynesworth has already played the race card.)

I get thats its business if that's what you're getting at thats fine.

We hired Sticklin as AD because he was a homegrown kid, Greg Byrne groomed him when he was the AD here...From Jackson, went to Miss State then he gets the job and says its his dream job.  Few years later he bolts for Florida.  Is always on twitter talking about "family" and this and that.

Now less than a year on the job at Florida he comes back and hires our coach away from us.  He probably won't be honored at half time next year when we host Florida.
FWIW, there were a lot of folks in Gainesville who wanted him to succeed Muschamp. One guy who didn't was Jeremy Foley. Once Foley was gone, chances are any new AD would have had him on their list. I understand not liking the news but the Gators helped develop him as an OC.

Somebody asked me about controversy in Tampa about Schiano/PSU...and I didnt even recall it coming up.
Don’t remember anything about that either.  Just him telling the D to push the O line in victory formation ruffling feathers and putting Eli on his ###.

I clicked through a few of his other tweets...he has used racist remarks a few times before this as well.

Why do people care about head coaching experience?
Doesn't everyone have the youngest HC in CFB whose former HC'ing bosses have either (1) stayed with the school in an advisory capacity or (2) joined the coaching staff to help him navigate the waters?

Seriously, it’s not that hard

Pruitt supposedly did some shady #### while at Hoover to ensure players who shouldn't be academically ineligible were eligible.  All of it was rumor and nothing was ever proven that he was involved.  Also,  who hasn't banged a cheerleader?
Did he work with Probst? 'Cause that dude is a piece of ####.

24 hours later I’m over it.  It is still shocking though.  Florida was the one place we never thought he’d go.  It’s known around miss state that he and Stricklin didn’t get along, he pissed off the UF people a few years ago when Collins left and he called it a “lateral move.”  Then his wife was interviewed on a podcast earlier this year and she said something to the affect that they had already been in Gainesville and weren’t  interested in going back...she said fans would ridicule her at the grocery store if the offense didn’t score enough.

And like you said, Florida has had 2 other chances to take him and it seems like they passed...we just figured Florida want an option.

Guess the Mullen’s we’re ready for a change.  Should be a helluva game next year when they come back to Starkville!

I want some of that Schiano shtick.  Sign a contract, get pushed out by social media mouth-breathers, profit.

Tennessee is paying Butch Jones $8.2 mill, Schiano probably a few million more, then they have to pay Lane Kiffin $7 million a year.  And there is no doubt it will be Kiffin, they are really that ####### stupid.  :lmao: :SEC:

What I love most about the Schiano debacle is Albert "grab a handful of waitress ###/####" @haynesworthiii had any voice in this. That sorry, fat, diddling ###### is all that is wrong with sports. Keep your money fatboy, you never earned a dime of it.

When the girl with the nice personality turns you down....

@ClowESPN: Tennessee has reached out to David Cutcliffe about the Vols' head coaching job, but Cutcliffe informed UT officials that he wasn't interested and plans to finish his coaching career at Duke. The Blue Devils are bowl eligible for the 5th time in the last 6 years.

David Cutcliffe tells Tennessee he's not interested in the head coaching job, will stay at Duke. Can't blame him. It's much better to be the football coach at a basketball school than it is to be the football coach at a women's basketball school.

Ouch.  Cutcliffe didnt want to be the next Muschamp I suppose.

So will the Vols fans be surprised when the hot coaching commodities say no way to their team?  No way a head coach wants to be at the whim of those fans right?  As has been said, Pandora's box has now been opened for them.

Seems like very few hot coaching commodities this year.

They're at the point of settling for mildly embarrassing hire.

The only option where they can remotely save face (assuming we can all agree that Gruden isn’t a thing) would probably be Tee Martin.

Mike Gundy to Tennessee?

The University of Tennessee's plane is flying to Stillwater, Oklahoma in just under 2 hours. http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N111UT …

Gundy seems happy at OKST.  Never say never, but I'd be surprised if he left the cozy confines of Stillwater and its big donor for the deranged fans of Rocky Top.

WMNL’s Jimmy Hyams reports Tennessee has turned its focus to Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy. A few days ago, Gundy told reporters, “I’m rooted here. Knock on wood, if you’re doing good, you get calls. I get calls every year. But my stability here is more than it ever has been.”

Speaking of Mater Dei high school in Santa Ana, they are ranked #1 in the nation and they look it. They just killed powerhouse LB Poly in the playoffs; it wasn’t close. The QB, JT Daniels, looks incredible- he’s only a junior but already committed to USC (like his predecessors Leinart and Barkley.) The Poly QB, also ranked pretty high, is a white transfer from Oaks Christian to a mostly black school- he’s heading to Florida.
Hi, Tim.

Amon-Ra St. Brown is not committed to UCLA.  He's interested, though.

Poly is no longer a powerhouse.  And, it's not mostly a black school.  It's a school with 5000 students, most of which are white.

Let's hope Chip and Co. can land St. Brown, who has brothers at Stanford and Notre Dame.
