2017 College Football Thread: Hawaiian QB devastated to find out Jesus was "kinda rooting for Georgia" (1 Viewer)

Some interesting tidbits:

1. Yes this is an SEC clash, but Georgia and Alabama have only played two times in the last nine years. This is not remotely the same as LSU-Bama.

2. Michel and Chubb broke the all time record for most combined rushing yards by a duo with over 8000. Previous record was held by Eric Dickerson and Craig James at SMU in the early 80's.

3. Jake Fromm originally committed to Bama but then flipped to UGA after Kirby Smart became Georgia's Head Coach.
Would be nice if you actually won, think on it.

A day to reflect and still don't know how M. Stoops wasn't met on the tarmac with walking papers.     Scoring 48 points in a game and still losing is ridiculous.

7 times this year the Sooners have given up more than 30 points in a game.  That is Division II ball stats playing Division I schools.    I swear M. Stoops must have nudes on someone, or the B. Stoops stuck around to save his brother's job.     UGH.

Go Dawgs.
Saw a rare decent segment on ESPN showing some of the scheme breakdowns UGA took advantage of.  Really poor stuff.
Three of the big plays were true freshman being out of position.  I'm sure you are the type of guy who can have an 18-year-old in the proper position every time.  ;)

I came up with the best system more than a decade ago.

8 teams

7 games

Rose, Sugar, Fiesta, Orange, Bad Boy Mowers Gaspirilla Bowl, Cotton, Sun

Power 5 Conference Champions

The top non P5 team

2 wildcards

This year would have been: Clemson, OU, UGa, Ohio, USC, UCF, Bama, and Wisconsin/Auburn/Whatever

I would be fine with 6 (p5+1) with the top two getting a bye, but honestly byes don't benefit the top two after an month off.  16 would be so great but 8 is exactly right.  Sure we'd have issue with the wildcards but winning your conference would still be the most important thing (meaning the regular season still means a whole lot), and teams like UCF would be included.  I think knowing that winning your conference means a playoff is logical and important, that's how it should be.  Then having the non P5 rep who would be a fan favorite, and two WCs, especially teams who played an actual tough NCC would bolster our game.

I know there is a desire to have more teams, more games, more drama but I think 8 is exactly right.  Play the quarters on New Years Day, the Semis the Monday after, and the final Monday after that.  Move it up a week if needed, but I don't see how CFB is worse off under my proposal.

Bottom line I come from stock that believes that a conference championship is an amazing achievement, one that is primary to all other things.  Reward that with a playoff bid and a chance to win the National title.  Don't get in the weeds with 16 or 32 teams, it's really simple math.  :bye:

RichRod>WAIT!!!!
Rodriguez was previously investigated by an outside law firm after he was accused of sexual harassment, according to USA Today. He was cleared of any wrongdoing, but a former administrative assistant has reportedly threatened to file a lawsuit. It is unclear if that former administrative assistant is the same person who filed the notice of claim to the Arizona attorney general's office.

The university said it made the decision to fire Rodriguez after it became aware of information, both during and after the investigation, that made the university concerned about the direction of the program.
I can see RichRod catching on at a Div II school, and grinding his way back to the HC of Louisiana Monroe.

OSU played Michigan; what more do you want?
You're not even bright enough  to know what the sisters of the poor are!  News flash their is none on Michigan's  schedule.   But bama played power- house  Co. State and Mercer!  Along with  their weak conference schedule.

Detecting sarcasm/snark isn't your best feature, is it?

I was at Clemson at the same time as RichRod.  I don’t have anything too salacious but some of the players I knew despised the guy - all said he was huge ##### that just screamed at them all day.

   Georgia scored 54 points and 229 rushing yards before contact.   I guess the upperclassmen were out of position as well?   Gave up 41 to Baylor who won one game   Come on man no one can defend M. Stoops as a D Coordinator.   OU's defense was awful this year.   OU won despite the defensive coaching scoring 50 points just to stay in games.

After playing most of the game the healthiest they’ve been since Sept, Bama lost starting OLB Jennings late vs Clemson with a knee...he won’t play Mon. He had 3 TFL two days ago.  A starting OL is also questionable.

That lineman that got rolled up on looked nasty.

The best one was when A&M put a conference championship up when they didn't even make the Big 12 Title game, they just had the same record as the team that won the South division. I think they took it down due to the backlash though.

The A.D. is apparently paying the coaches their bonus for winning a national title too.  LOL
It's hilarious but a lot of big schools have done this. I don't think ucf should be killed more than them. If anything they should all be made fun of.

Alabama...*cough cough*

If we had 7 polls today or whatever there were back in the 40s, I’ll bet theyd get a #1 in there somewhere.

They are claiming one computer poll that is "recognized by the college football playoff" or something. So.....I guess there is a lot of precedent for this.

So Arizona is going to jump from the RichRod frying pan into the Sumlin fire???

Geez
Whoever gets hired at Arizona, they are automatically better than Herm Edwards.  I'm still at a loss how any human on this planet of 8 billion people would think Herm Edwards as HC of a P5 program would be a good idea.

That was exactly where my head went as well. I found it funny that they Alabama’d Alabama.

1973 lmao ok Alabama.

Say what you want, but nobody in the country has shown themselves capable of beating UCF.

The two title game participants were 1-2 against the Auburn team UCF just beat, so the Knights could clearly compete at that level.

They won the Coaches Poll, the last time it was selected prior to bowls. ND has also benefitted from that timing I believe.

Right and then they lost their bowl game and finished 4th in the AP. Maybe the most ridiculous claimed title of them all.

Sure, but how many hookers have they killed?

If UCF played the SEC schedule week in and week out, they aren't going 13-0.  Beating Auburn in one game doesn't all of a sudden mean they can turn around and compete against UGA and Alabama too while their off weeks are LSU and Mississippi State.   What they did was cool but they aren't THAT good.

The whole reason for not having a 32 team playoff or whatever is that the regular season is so very important.  If you schedule OOC patsies like Baylor did, you don't get in.  If you're a really good team like Auburn, Wisconsin, or TCU, you have to win your conference or you're out.  UCF didn't even play their toughest scheduled OOC game v Ga Tech because of the hurricanes, and slipped by SMU South Florida, Navy and Memphis twice.

Transitive properties don't apply because Auburn beat Bama and Georgia so we can imagine UCF can compete with Bama or Georgia.  We've seen it so many times where a underdog nobody from a non P5 goes into a big meaningless bowl and wins vs a heavy favorite.  Utah, Boise, UCF a couple years ago, etc.  If they were in a somewhat week ACC Coastal what would their record have been?  4-4, 5-3?  Does anyone think they'd have gone 7-1 or 8-0 and beat Clemson in the ACCCG?

Teams like FSU, OU, OSU, and Alabama who consistently win their conference beating teams who consider them their biggest rival, who give those teams their best game, has to be in the equation.  UCF is just playing games, slipping by SMU by a TD in a noon game on ESPN 6.  It's not the same, it just isn't.

Only two teams in the SEC had to play both Georgia and Alabama this year.

South Carolina didn't even have to play Alabama, Auburn, LSU or Mississippi State.

Oh, the UCF can beat Alabama and Georgia because they beat Auburn hyperbole.  Cool
No. The hyperbole that as an SEC team UCF would play Alabama, Georiga, LSU, and Mississippi State.

SEC teams play 8 other SEC teams, and don't face the other 5. Auburn was the only SEC team that had the unfortunate luck of having to play all four of those teams.

Thanks for explaining how P5 conference schedules work.  I had no idea.  Sorry again you missed the point.

If your point is UCF couldn't run this schedule below, I disagree. I think they could.

7-6 Florida State
10-4 Fresno State
7-6 Colorado State
5-7 Vanderbilt
6-6 Ole Miss
7-6 Texas A&M
4-8 Arkansas
4-8 Tennessee
9-4 LSU
9-4 Mississippi State
5-6 Mercer
10-4 Auburn

Oh, I'm dealing with bitter Buckeye fan about Alabama making the playoff.

If you are not power 5 you are not playing for a championship - so why not just call it was it is?  Have a tournament for the power 5, a tournament for everyone else - both can claim their championship and leave the arguing to the fans to spend money at local pubs and argue over who the real national champion is just like the good old days.
