2017 College Football Thread: Hawaiian QB devastated to find out Jesus was "kinda rooting for Georgia" (2 Viewers)

UCF didn't even play their toughest scheduled OOC game v Ga Tech because of the hurricanes, and slipped by SMU South Florida, Navy and Memphis twice.
Hey, don't be dissing the USF-UCF rivalry. The War on I-4 is serious bidness.

But, yeah, the rest of your post is spot on.

If you are not power 5 you are not playing for a championship - so why not just call it was it is?  Have a tournament for the power 5, a tournament for everyone else - both can claim their championship and leave the arguing to the fans to spend money at local pubs and argue over who the real national champion is just like the good old days.
I think the G5 schools are waiting for the P5 to basically buy them out of the playoff. Then they set up their own.

It used to be more fun IMO.  Used to love seeing UCF kids coming over to RayJay wearing “UCF is a drinking school with a football problem” T-shirts.

Ohio DID NOT deserve to be in the playoff.

Live with it.  You can't lose to Iowa by 90 and get in the playoffs, that's explicitly written in the bylaws.  Take your butthurt elsewhere, buttholes.
A fair ruling.  Of course, I also feel that if you lose to Syracuse that ought to eliminate you, and frankly, if you play in the Pac 12 that should as well.

I only hate 3 college football teams, Michigan, Ohio State and Alabama, but I am adding Wisconsin to the list if Alabama wins the nation title.

I hope you don't mistake me for an Ohio State fan.  The last time I gave a crap about them would have been back when Archie Griffin was playing and when Woody Hayes was dispensing justice to opposing players.  I'm a Badgers fan.

That’s fine, I just don’t understand anyone making the argument for Ohio St.  Bama got in because OSU got in the year before - same situation. It can’t be both ways.

Ohio State didn't deserve to get in the 2017 CFP.

But I am for any controversy that leads us to a true playoff system going forward.

For losing to OSU I assume, which backdoored Bama into the playoffs.
If so I like it because it has just enough and just so little crazy as to be wonderful.  He could blame Clemson, or Georgia, but gosh darn it, if the Badgers had taken care of business those other games would not have mattered at all.  I completely dig his blame assignment.  I do wonder why, however, he doesn't assign some blame to Mercer.

Need to disband the Big 12 and go to 4 16 team conf

Big 10 gets Oklahoma and Texas (B10 west needs good teams)

ACC gets WV and Iowa St

Pac 10 gets Kansas Kansas St Texas Tech and TCU

SEC gets Ok St and Baylor

I think this makes a lot of sense.  I'd also be a proponent of the soccer model overseas where the teams that finish in the bottom are relegated and teams that finish at the top of their 'lesser' conferences take the place of the relegated teams.  So a Boise State could take over Oregon State and UCF can take over Florida or Vanderbilt.

Yeah I could live with that too.  Maybe make it every 4 years or something though?

and I'm not really tied to the specific teams going to specific conferences, but the Big 12 (err...8) is definitely useless.  I also like how my plan leaves out Notre Dame because #### them

Yeah that's a hard pass. First of all you can't split up KU/KSU and OU/OSU. Also OU is an atrocious fit for the Big 10. That's just gross. If this happens KU would be the team to go to the Big 10, much better fit.

I think the Big 12 and AAC should just cannibalize one another and complete the decimation of the non power conferences. Give the non-power schools their own tourney or something, because nobody wants to do the 16 team thing and actually give them a chance.

For those who like film study and in game tactics, the below article provides a phenomenal breakdown of Kirby Smart and Mel Tuckers halftime adjustments in the Rose Bowl to turn the tables on Oklahoma. After getting shredded by Baker Mayfield in the first half, UGA broke from their original defensive gameplan and introduced several different blitzes in the 3rd quarter. All of a sudden, Georgia's defense came to life and completely stifled the Sooners. In fact, after only allowing 30 pressures all season, Oklahoma was pressured by UGA on 8 of the first 11 plays of the 3rd quarter. An amazing statistic.

It really reinforces just how important coaching is in football - a great scheme can turn an average player into a superstar, just as a bad scheme can make a top talent look helpless. Credit to Kirby for making the necessary adjustments to give his team a chance to win.

Kansas should just cancel football and put Baylor in the MAC.

I didn't think they would ever split Missouri and Kansas, but they did.  Big 12 is really just an amalgam of conferences anyway.  Big 8, SWC, some randoms.

More sense for Iowa State and KU to go to the Big 10.  Send all the Texas schools to the Pac 12, OU and Okie State to SEC.  But that would require some shuffling from the current Pac12 as well.

The ACC has turned down WVU so many times already.  I honestly think they only schools they would take in expansion (that are realistic obviously they would take a UGA or Florida or Penn State) are Notre Dame or Texas, if the Big 12 did break up.  I think they would be willing to take Notre Dame and stay at 15.  Many say they would take Navy with ND for an even number but I don't think that's true.

SOURCE: #MichiganState Co-DC Harlon Barnett will become the new defensive coordinator at #FSU. Big hire for Taggart. Barnett is highly thought of by the players there and by his staff. Very impressive dude.

OU still stuck with FUMS

Seems like a pretty good hire. He's put together a really young staff. Love it.

I think it’s different when they are in the same state and covered by the same board of regents, but maybe not.

I don’t think the Big 12 is going anywhere until 2025

LSU busts thru the Asst Coach pay scale ceiling with a new $10M/4-year deal with Aranda...probably also positioning him as the Gumbo in Waiting.

So who are Auburn fans rooting for on Monday? The obvious choice is UGA, though I wouldn't be surprised if many were rooting against Georgia simply because they cant stand the idea of both their big rivals being better than them.

He was already the highest paid coordinator, I think.  aTm came after him real hard, apparently offered even more than that (2.7/year)  There's no way LSU could have let him go to a team in the west.  The fan fallout would have been too much to overcome and the whole off season would be even more engulfed in negativity.

Since Jimbo got there, he's gone hard after 5* WR Terrance Marshall and twice went after Aranda.  Suck it Jimbo.

1. Neither.  College football is dumb.

2.  Alabama.  What's another national title for them at this point?   The thought of UGA winning one is awful.  I like the fact that Auburn, Tennessee, Florida, Clemson, & Tech all have a national title more recently than them.
So what's the backstory on Auburn and UGA being rivals? I know it's the Oldest Rivalry in the Deep South (tm), but why? Was it over a horse? A woman? What?

Christ, Georgia Tech DOES have a more recent title than them. That is hilarious.
