2017 Streaming Defenses (1 Viewer)

NYJ DST has put up single digits 10/12 weeks - only decent weeks were MIA & BUF at home.

The more I think about it the more LAC at home versus the banged up Redskins line makes sense. Appreciate the discussion though.

I'm right there with you. Jets has the look of a classic "bad D/good match-up" sucker bet.

As of now, my plans is LAC in one league, Cinci in another. If Tyrod plays I'll consider Buffalo, but I don't think they're a must-grab by any means. It would be more about locking them up for Week 15 in the league where I have the Chargers.

Sticking w/ SD.

They're playing for something, feeling good, and the Redskins OL is beat to hell.

I sympathize. Just like it will take me about a month plus to adjust to writing 2018 on checks, it will be a long time before my mental model shifts to point of not having to think about NOT calling this team the San Diego Chargers.
Every time I see LAC I think Clippers

Curious coincidence - both the L.A. teams have similar defenses. Above average DBs made better by an excellent pass rush, but susceptible to inside running. Hard to believe they are 32nd & 30th In yards rushing allowed.

FWIW I went with the Titans this week.  My 'leading indicator' I primarily use for defenses is sacks.  Not only is there a direct relationship (sack=point) but getting after the QB leads to INTs, and leads to defensive touchdowns.

They had 8 sacks last week vs Colts (FWIW Colts are now #1 in sacks allowed with 47, leading the pack by 7).  Houston (who Titans playing) are 8th with 34, not that stout of a line.

Link to data if interested http://www.espn.com/nfl/statistics/team/_/stat/passing/sort/sacks

So I just took the top 8 teams in sacks allowed (after 8 it drops off a bit) and examined each.  My picks to consider:

Steelers / Ravens / Bears / Titans

Indy vs Jags (Jags likely unavailable)
Packers vs Bucs (Bucs dead last in sacks for the year - pass)
Bengals vs Steelers (Steelers unavailable but good choice if so)
Broncos vs Dolphins (Dolphins 3rd lowest sack total - pass)
Lions vs Ravens (Unavail for me, but could be good choice)
Jets vs Chiefs (Defense hasn't been great...unavail for me anyway)
49ers vs Bears (Decent choice...unavail for me)
Texans vs Titans (Middle of the pack but have improved as season gone on - avail and my choice)
Looks like I was on the right track here

Ravens / Bears / Titans all with great days. TBD on Steelers

Looking forward to Week 15/16 having locked a first round bye. Not a lot of solid wire options:

BUF: MIA / @NE

DEN: @IND / @WAS

DET: CHI / @CIN

NO: NYJ / ATL

DAL: @OAK / SEA

WAS: ARI / DEN

MIA: @BUF / @ KC

Thinking DEN and WAS are the best pairing for those weeks from the dregs here.
you are right about about Denver's schedule, but after what they did yesterday, just don't know how to possibly trust them.

I would also add CHI as one to watch, depending on Stafford's health, as they have DET in 15 and CLE in 16.

I grabbed WAS last week myself.

DEN went into last week having surrendered the 3rd most FFPA to RBs over the last 5 games

670 YFS, 24 REC, 9 TDs (WK 8-12) - 29.0 PPG

Drake’s 151 / 3 / 1 - 24.1 was actually an improvement

Dreadful offense & the QBs have taken a lot of flack, but they can’t stop anyone

Still put up a decent 17.50 this week in our format despite getting blown out

I get to kick the Chargers to the curb - lucked into a bye. Guess I’m overdue to handcuff Bell with Conner.

Had been holding Denver for their week 15 matchup @INDY. Now not so sure. Have a bye so was counting on them. They look like they've thrown in the towel.

Only other decent options for week 15 are TN (@SF...don't love since Jimmy G is the real deal) and DET (vs CHI...who can be run all over). Ugh.

Have the Steelers, looking at Week 15 options since the Steelers play NE.

Going back and forth between:

Bills (MIA)

Lions (CHI)

Starting to lean Bills, though it's hard for me to picture Chicago putting up that many points or yards.

Bills have the Colts at home this week as well.

Thinking about dropping Steelers this week for a streamer.  I don't like what I'm seeing the past few games. No sacks or turnovers.

Trying to get gb @ clv and worry about next week next week

GB sticks out to me as the one defense that no matter how good the matchup is, when I try to stream them they lay an egg that week.  I'd bet in the last 5 years I've only had a negative score from my defense maybe 4 times, and 3 of those have been GB.  They're on my do not touch list.

Rolling with the Lions in one league, in another debating dropping Pitt to avoid that NE matchup but best available is Chicago  :X

Sea and Det dropped in my league.  I currently own LAC.  Ride them ros or pickup Sea/Det?  Looking at week 15.

LAC @ KC

Sea vs LAR

Det vs Chi

I am in a week 15 dilemma as well with a bye this week.

Personally I would probably go with DET at home against the inexperienced Trubinsky.  I tend to lean towards home team defenses.  Although Seattle's Defense has been pretty solid.

Detroit looks the best out of those three in WK 15 IMHO.

That said I'd rather ride the Chargers as they seem to have a solid floor, whereas Detroit has not proven trustworthy over the course of this season. And would worry about a high-scoring divisional shootout and SEA not having their full complement of secondary/LB studs healthy and on-field.

Have a bye this week and have the LAR defense set for week 15 vs Seattle at Seattle.  Problem is R Wilson is my QB and I would rather not start a defense against my QB unless of course I start my backup Rivers at KC week 15

Would you pick up

NO v NYJ week 15

CAR v GB week 15

I have 1 WW pickup available for the rest of the year so this is it and I'm sure those 2 D's wont be hangin around

Any advise?

I think the Jets have proven that they aren't a cakewalk, but would take the NO D at home against the Jets instead of the Panthers (even if they are at home) against a potential Rodgers in a likely shootout with playoff implications.

Thanks

I agree, the Jets O has improved but that's what I was leaning towards with NO's D playing pretty solid at home.  Only reason I would go with Carolina is Rodgers health and uncertainty.

Anybody else with an opinion on this?
If you ask me, I think the Steelers can still put on a Top 10 DST performance this week and might be worth the hold -- can't see BAL putting that much more than 20 points on the board against them and can see them getting to Flacco a few times as well. They also have a pretty good match up for Week 16 vs HOU.

I do think GB is actually looking like one of the better defensive options this week, though one that I personally think comes with a notable degree of risk (CLE is at home, they may get some rejuvenation if Gordon continues to pick up where he left off, etc.).

But this is the playoffs and if you can't afford to play it a little safer, would look to GB, or even to TEN vs ARI or NYJ v DEN as games with a good degree of upside.

I'm keeping PIT for the HOU matchup in week 16. Steelers are also universally ranked in the top 10 for this week.

Can somebody explain why the GB D is suddenly so great? I could see all CLE offensive players suddenly being sexy playoff alternatives after this game at home.

I think this is the game Cleveland wins this year.  They do have some weapons on offense and the addition of Gordon with a game under his feet helps.  I think you can do better then GB D

Yeah I'm dropping stinky Doug Martin for buf and holding 2 def.  I can decide buf vs Pitt for this week but that looks great.

I agree - I don't like GB defense at all in this game.  GB D is ranked 29th in DVOA against WR1 (Gordon), 26th against WR2 (Coleman), and 22nd against TE (Njoku).  I could see CLE doing much better than expected.

Using NE this week @ Miami.

Cinci and GB ranked higher in my scoring by Dodds but can’t do it.

Likely adding Saints for next week.

New England has been playing great consistent fantasy defense.

Since their bye they have scored 14, 9, 17, 14 in my league scoring. Their may be some defenses with a bit higher upside (but that comes at a bit higher risk), but you can’t ignore their strong play and consistency, especially come playoff time.

Leaning towards picking up Detroit to pair with Chargers.  That Chargers D is healthy and peaking.  Sea D played well vs Eagles though.  But injuries to Sherman and Chancellor.  Tough decisions and need to make these moves a week early.

So Buffalo vs Indy or stick with Pittsburgh vs Bal?
I wouldn't touch Pittsburgh until we know the effect of the loss of Shazier.  They've been shaky at best for a couple weeks in a row.  Baltimore has also been playing better and Collins should have a pretty decent day.  I would definitely go Baltimore.

You mean Buffalo?  The only thing that keeps me thinking Pittsburgh is this game vs Bal should be low scoring and it's at home in primetime.  2 straight bad def performances.  It kinda smells like a get right game on def to me.  Who knows

Would you guys go after any streamers over Minnesota? Would hate to get cute and bench a good D but Carolina could go off.
