2017 Streaming Defenses (3 Viewers)

---QUICK REMINDER, CHECK YOUR WAIVER WIRES FOR DEFENSES---

Obviously, since this is a streaming defenses thread, many of us are well aware to check each week....having to depend on what we can dredge up.

I happened to notice some very good choices in a couple of leagues, and other owners are not as keen on a few that are left, leaving me some solid choices. So even though you may think "my league is on top of things, even streaming defenses", have a look. You may be surprised even heading into the playoffs whats there. This just seems like a year where a few strong choices at defense are still sitting their available on the wire....people just haven't nabbed them this year like they have in past seasons it seems.

Interesting scenario for me in one particular league.  I have BALTIMORE. Which after they lost their strong CB Jimmy Smith,  I am not quite as high on.

ALSO, the team they are facing is PITTSBURGH who we all know can light it up. Not only that, I am trotting out BIG BEN and ANTONIO BROWN on this same playoff team. So let it be known that I am rolling out Ben and AB, and also possibly starting the Baltimore defense. Its the argument many here talk about every year. "Do I start defense X against  multiple key offensive pieces  in this crucial matchup?".

In the event of an "elite defense" , I often fire them up anyway.

But this is a matchup where I am projected to be a fair sized underdog. I'm thinking about possibly rolling out one of these other options.

(NY JETS) @ Denver - Man has Denver been bad. Seriously.  This one scares me though, a real gamble.

(KC) @ home vs. OAK. - Another "bad" one. The whole team looks to be in a downward spiral. But, here we have all the makings of a possible good showing. Arrowhead is a legitimate concern to opposing teams, and it seems like it always will be...... West Coast team playing early, possible loss of Amari Cooper. (He cleared the protocol, but the ankle issue may limit him, or possibly keep him out altogether.)

(TB) @ home vs. Detroit - If Stafford does not play, this looks like a great scenario. But its sounding more and more like he will, since the Lions desperately need to win a few games.

(PIT) @ home vs. Baltimore - Couldn't believe PIT was on the wire.

(Denver) @ home vs. NYJ - Another one I couldn't believe was on the wire. I know they aren't the Broncs from the last year or two, but this is still a good matchup.

I have a couple ideas about what I might do, but I just wanted to point out, I was surprised that a number of options were there, that I thought wouldn't be there.

Even DETROIT is on that wire (facing TB), but I like them much more NEXT WEEK.

Check your waiver wires boys. In 2 leagues I am in, I have found that a number of choices were there this year, that I wasn't quite expecting.

Have we given up on the Lions? They did jack on their last 2 games but their playoff schedule is good
I was holding them for a matchup next week with CHI, but their run D is downright horrid and their pass D is starting to show some serious leaks. I think they are who we thought they were...pretty lousy.

I'm expecting Howard to awaken next week. That said, my only other option in week 15 is Denver (@Indy) and while the matchup is great, Denver is falling apart. If Denver shows something at home against McCown who is on fire, I'll re-adjust my thinking.

I'm a big underdog this week so I'm only worried about this week, hence I have the Packers.

Detroit has definitely degraded but hopefully they'll still be around for week 15. Only other options are Miami @ Buffalo, Chargers @ KC or Atlanta @TB.  I think Detroit is still the best of that bunch.

Somewhat regretting not going for Tennessee when they were on waivers last week.

Pittsburgh defense has collapsed the past 2 weeks.  It's not that surprising someone had given up on them.  I'm pretty close but I like their week 16 matchup

Tyrod Taylor is practicing today
I get why Taylor vs Peterman is a factor if you are considering playing the IND D against them (I wouldn't regardless), but not sure I'm as clear why that matters so much from a perspective of whether or not to play the Bills D.

Is the thinking that a better QB will keep the offense on the field longer, thus keeping the D fresh; maybe it also has to do with a better QB getting a lead and having the other team have to become more one-dimensional in focusing on the pass game to keep up?

I can see the other side of the coin equally play out though -- a better QB may be much more efficient, scoring quicker and putting their D on the field for a longer period of time. With a lead, teams tend to grind out the clock with the run game -- another factor that may keep their D off the field for longer than they otherwise might with other game scripts.

So apologies for my denseness, why does Tyrod playing matter in playing the BUF D?

i dont want peterman turning the ball over all game.  that def hurts the bills def.  its that easy

Actually I just saw the Chargers were dropped. Their schedule doesn't look as easy as Detroit's but they are playing better. Plus it'd be a waiver pick vs FA.

Decisions, decisions.

Thoughts on Minnesota? They were available on my WW, so I picked them up for next week vs Cinci. They've actually been a much better real-life D than fantasy one (their only double-digit score came in Week 6 vs GB, when they knocked Rodgers out and Hundley came in cold). Still, they're solid, and look to have a positive game script.

Most likely just a one-week rental if they're going to be facing Rodgers in Lambeau Week 16.

If Buf is turning it over and/or going 3 and out a lot, the DST can wear down from being on the field too much. I like this matchup for Buf DST (picked them up specifically for it) but may go another route if Peterman is starting.

Bungles home vs Da Bears is a legit consideration. Could do worse than GBP @ Browns. I'd consider TB home against the Kitties if Stafford is out, too.

I keep going back and forth between the Bengals and the Chargers. Points against is a massive component of our scoring and Cousins scares me. That defense is just so good though and they’re at home against an East Coast team.

would prob stick with chargers

They've been better at home. I was trying to snatch them up for next week but someone grabbed them before me, I didn't think anyone would want them for the CAR match-up.

No one is considering the Cowboys?  Sean Lee is back and even though Eli is back (may motivate team overall) Cowboys D is a different animal with Lee in there.

It was also impressive they shut down Cousins without Lee last week as well.

Are they a solid choice?

Another note on Buffalo. Weather is forecasting for 21 degrees and 13mph winds. Not completely terrible. Then again, if I'm a dome team like Indy I'm not exactly loving this. And who knows...maybe there's some snow squalls off the lake.

Made a similar post above. I love Dallas this week.

Motivated. Still in the hunt. Got the running game going. Kill the clock. Shepard still may not play.

Firing up bills although I may have to reconsider using eagles instead of Peterman starts for bills..

Keep bucs d in mind if Stafford ruled out... No I'm not bitter about ruddocks garbage time pick 6 costing me a bye

not really liking what im hearing about tyrod taylor.  just gonna play it safe and play Pittsburgh even though they have stunk

Anyone else getting nervous about Cinci, given that they'll be without Burfict and two starting CBs?
This point exactly. I am considering dropping them and picking up either Dallas or Buffalo with all the injuries Cincinnati's having. What are other's thoughts on this??

Yeah, Dallas is available in my league. Question is how much this will handicap Cinci. If it were just one guy, I wouldn't worry all that much (I also have Baltimore, and Smith's injury won't dissuade me from using them in Weeks 15/16). But three of their best players? That's pretty significant.

The bears offense had 8 first downs against the 49ers at home... The bears offense hasn't scored more than 20 points all season (if you exclude St and d TDS)... Bengals d is banged up, but it seems extremely unlikely the Bengal defense is going to be a bad play this week

I hear this, but their defense is losing 3 very good players Sunday!

How about Tennessee Tuxedo's on the road at ARI this week and @ SF next week? Hungry?
Someone made a good argument for them a couple of pages up.
There are seven 8-9 teams in the NFL at the moment & along with the Panthers they seem really unimpressive. Mariotta & the receivers are disappointing, as is the defense. They’ve been outgained, outscored & have thrown 4 more interceptions than their opponents. They’ve had some serious stinkers on the road. It’s obviously a plus matchup versus Blaine Gabbert but I don’t trust them. I could see them losing several winnable games down the stretch.

This will be their seventh game versus a bottom ten FF Offense (IOW top ten in FFPAto DSTs) and they are still looking for their first elite FF Week. Average to below average in PA, INT, FF, and it’s not a great defensive backfield (22 passing TDs allowed.)

I'm about to fade them and may go with Minny D.  I'm not thrilled going up against Cam on the road but Minny D is pretty stout.  While they may not net me a lot of points this week, I feel confident they won't kill me either.

That said, I think they have upside this week against a team that can't run the ball and their number one Wr will be shut down.

Week 15 question:

Detroit D at home vs Chicago or Minnesota D at home vs Cincinnati?

I'm leaning Minnesota because they've been decent to good at home but I'm torn because Cincy's o-line seems to have gotten it together over the past few weeks. I'm not as confident about Detroit because of their injury situation and potential negative game script if Stafford isn't right, but they had a decent showing against Chicago the last time they played, and will be at home this time.

Maybe some of you who are knowledgeable about these two games can please weigh in?

Trying to talk myself into the same, you like them better than Seattle?

Peterman starting for Buffalo.  Colts D, worth consideration?
I think so. NP threw...what...5 picks and didn’t even survive a half in his only other start IIRC. Have to think he will be better than that this time but this could be an ugly game where both D end up putting up useful fantasy points.

I am less enthused about the Bills D upon news of Peterman starting but still going with them at this point.

I still have the Bills in my lineup as well, but this makes the play much more risky.  There are no other obvious streamers available that i like.

Thinking same thing. Plus really bad weather in Buffalo Tmrw too. 20 mph winds, snow, with -10 with the windchill factor.
Bad dome team on the road in that weather?  If I move on from BUF it won't be to INDY.  The game will probably be lower scoring so the Bill can hide Peterson a bit by leaning on McCoy - or at least that's what I'm telling myself :)

Bills are still a decent play.  Should be low scoring if nothing else

Seriously debating Indy. Have PIT at home against BALT right now. Should be solid, but maybe not spectacular.

Need upside after the Kamara debacle. Indy could boom with Peterman + weather. That game could be a 7-0 type game.

For those with a bye looking ahead to Week 15, who stands out. Kind of like Buffalo (vs. Mia) and NO (vs. NYJ). Carolina maybe if Rodgers isn’t cleared.

If Martin, Winston and Evans are all playing like garbage and TB oline is destroyed with injuries, what exactly is making Detroit such a meh play this week? Something isn't adding up

Totally same here with Pitt and kamara.  I dropped Pitt for Indy this morning.  More risky, but more upside I think.

Anyone like Seahawks? Over MIN?
Choices, choices, choices... It just sounds like everyone is seeking to maximize their points this critical week. Both Seahawks and Vikings on the road and throw in Packers on the road as well. Packers rise in the ranks due to drawing CLE, who some think will play well and make it a close game this week with the addition of Gordon. Seahawks get Bortles, whose prone to a turnover or two - SEA has new CB playmakers. MIN is a tough D who came up empty last week, but played well football wise. They seemed to get after Cam last year I believe? Cam seems to be not turning it over as much now. Round in circles we go...

Rankings prolly have it GB, MIN, SEA... but what the heck do they know? I'm really torn this week. Last week I hit with LAR, but don't want to play them this week as I start Wentz as well.

GB playing to run the table with hopes of getting RODGERS back next week. Vikings just plain strong on both sides of the ball. Seahawks underdogs on the road. I like taking the points, not sure how much I like their D this week?
