2018 College Football Thread: Local man buys some teenage champions a 4 for 4 (1 Viewer)

Mississippi State has lost to Kentucky as a ranked team for the first time since 1953, Bear Bryant’s last season in Lexington.

local D3 team beat a team from Iowa today, 91 - 0.

guy i work with and his kid went. it was 35 - 0 at the end of the first. they scored 5 defensive or special teams touchdowns.

guy said he wanted to leave at half (56 - 0) but his kid wanted to see if they could hang 100.

almost, son. almost.

Oklahoma linebacker Kenneth Murray finished with 28 tackles against Army. That is the most by an FBS player since 2000, the furthest back the NCAA record book goes, according to ESPN Stats & Info.

I guess I’m wrong? I thought there was like 1:02 left.

Here’s what would have happened if Oregon kneeled.

1st down kneel at 1:41. Timeout. Let’s say 1:39.

2nd down kneel runs clock to :59

3rd down kneel runs clock to :19.

Punt runs clock to under :10 and Stanford has no timeouts to go length of field

Could oregon not have kneeled out regulation?  Is my math that bad?
It would have gone like this (assuming that each kneel takes 2 seconds off the clock):

1:43 (1st and 10 from 50) - kneel
1:01 (2nd and 11 from 49) - kneel, Stanford timeout
0:59 (3rd and 12 from 48) - kneel
0:17 (4th and 13 from 47) - punt

Stanford gets the ball back deep in their own territory with ~10 seconds on the clock.

Very curious play calling by Oregon.

It’s not really curious. Few of us spent all offseason saying how unfit Cristobal was to be a HC. I’m sure our boy Noonan won’t be talking about Willie for a while at least.

Nice of the Pac-12 to reveal their true sucky colors before October this season.  Wow....

Not sure what the line will be in Oregon/Stanford, but I plan on tapping Stanford quite heavily.
Not how I thought it would unfold.  Almost feel guilty cashing this ticket.

Nah, I'll treat this one like a Cristoballmas gift.

Oregon playcalling was actually very good all game.  I don't mind him not kneeling at the end but he needed to stress to the freshman running back two hands on the ball at all times.

I take Cristobal and the direction Oregon is heading all day over Taggart.  Oregon dominated Stanford and if not for a couple fluke plays it was a blowout.  To dominate Stanford lines on both sides of the ball was awesome.  Anyone who watched that game knows Oregon is better than Stanford.

ESPN Stats & Info: This is the first time Duke and Kentucky have been ranked in the same football AP poll since the Sept. 14, 1957 poll. They have been ranked in the same basketball AP poll 547 teams in that span.

It's definitely Trevor's team.  The offense is more energized with him back there vs Kelly.  I still think Kelly rotates in though, just not every 2 series like before.  Lawrence, Ross and Higgins are going to make some big time highlights in the next couple of years.

Clemson named Trevor Lawrence starting QB.

@bigmarc27 Will Kelly Bryant still rotate in or does this mean Dabo is making Lawrence the starter and Bryant the backup?
The only article I’ve seen didn’t have a quote from Dabo, so just guessing but I think Jayrock is probably right that KB will still get some gametime.  It might not / probably won’t be an equal split but he probably still plays.

Let's see if this staff can at least learn from this.  Previous regimes would make the same mistakes over and over and it drove me nuts.  Kick field goals and take points when you can, chew clock when you have a lead, take care of the football, limit penalties.  These aren't difficult concepts; they are proven effective methods of winning football games.  It's all well and good to jump out to big leads but you have to protect them.  My hope is that this current coaching staff can learn from this and close out games in the future.  Call me cautiously optimistic.

I’m having trouble seeing how they get to four wins.  Is this it for Johnson?
Who do you want?  You’ve got to go somewhat young and let them go through the growing pains of turning your offense into something completely different.

As an aside, Im sitting outside with the dog and today is probably the best weather day of the year in GA.
