2018 College Football Thread: Local man buys some teenage champions a 4 for 4 (2 Viewers)

Nice of the Pac-12 to reveal their true sucky colors before October this season.  Wow....

Not sure what the line will be in Oregon/Stanford, but I plan on tapping Stanford quite heavily.

Bama's scored 50+ points in the first 3 games, the first SEC team in history to do that.

Also a 26-point favorite over TAMU...  .

Is Georgia and maybe Ohio State the only teams they wouldn't be favored by 20+?  With Tua and the defense this team is ridiculous.

Long way to go...Bama’s weakness is lack of experience, especially on D. You have to find a way to keep that O off the field. We’ll see what Jimbo can draw up.

Yes, let’s see what Jimbo can draw up.

(Remembers 7 points in meaningful time in the opener last year with a team projected to have a loaded offense)

I think Clemson is in the neighborhood of as good as they've been the last few years and Alabama would murder them.  Clemson's only chance is give Trevor Lawrence the keys now and hope he's Peyton Manning good by December
The defense is stout. We didn’t have our legs under us against the Aggies, but I’m not too worried about that. I do think Lawrence will be the QB by the end of the year, but KB’s legs are kind of an important part of our system, so he won’t be relegated solely to the bench.  We’ll see how it goes. I don’t know how we compare to the past few years, obviously we don’t have a generational guy like Watson (TL could be eventually), but I think we’re pretty good.  Against a top team, who knows. I hope we get there to find out.

I think the last time I was that depressed watching an Oregon win was win Herbert broke his collarbone last year against Cal.  I was feeling pretty good after first two patsies.  Oregon clearly has a ton of room for improvement.  You sound a lot higher on Stanford than I am.  I think it will be a close game.  Line started out Oregon favored by 1 I think.

I agree you guys are as good as the last few years.  Alabama is just that much better than they've been because they have a QB now.

With that schedule, and d-Line, I don't think you have much to worry about.

Urban Meyer says in response to report that he takes medication that affects his memory: "I'm very healthy." He said it doesn't impact his memory when he coaches.

So it just affects his memory when he's trying to remember whether his coaches beat up women or he erased texts. Got it.

So my wife's cousin is a senior down at Clemson and we figured it would be worth visiting and taking in a game at Death Valley with our kids.  We are going to the Syracuse game coming up on the 29th.  Any Clemson fans out there that have advice for game day (including parking/tailgating tips).  We are renting a lake house in Seneca for the weekend so have our base of operations set up.  Also, renting a car for the weekend.  Thanks

Do you have a parking pass or anything like that, or are you just going general?  From Seneca, it’s basically one road into Clemson and one road back out, so be prepared to get there early. I believe that game is set for noon, so most of the tailgating will be postgame. There will be tons of people out, but I’d plan to stick around well after game time. The traffic sucks, so people just hang out all day.

I’d head downtown and check things out. It’s a pretty quaint college town, your cousin will know where to go. Grab a drink at TigerTownTavern and just check things out. Another option is the Esso Club but since we’re talking gameday, getting anything other than a drink will be tough. They’ll be packed. As far as tailgating, the biggest lots are right beside the stadium on the west and north sides. The east side is a big hill that leads to campus and the dorms.  About an hour before the game the band / cheerleaders will have a parade from their pregame concert down into the stadium and it’s worth catching if this is a one time stop for you.

Yup, heard the game was at noon and figured we would head over early morning.  We haven't given much thought to the parking at this stage and it appears most pre-paid parking is set up for boosters (which we are clearly not) so not really sure of options.

I just don't think Oregon has fixed some of their problems yet and I really don't think Stanford is the game where they all of sudden disappear.  Penalties, turnovers, drops, sloppy play....That doesn't boost my confidence against Stanford.

I don't see A&M slowing down Bama.  It's a whole different atmosphere from playing their first home game vs Clemson in front of their 100k fans.  Mond was ridiculous that night.  He narrowly escaped 11 or so sacks and delivered balls to receivers all over the field.

I don't see that same level of play against Bama on the road.  And Bama will roll up numbers on offense.  I'm thinking blow out.

Honestly haven’t done non-parking pass in so long that I don’t even know what the current options are.  I’m sure the cousin knows what the deal is, but I’m guessing you’ll be walking a good bit. Way back when I would park by the golf course, but that’s the opposite way coming in from Seneca.

Looks like I can buy parking passes on stub hub so will probably just pull the trigger on one of those.  Is there a best lot to be in?  Will of course check in with cousin.

“I’m annoyed Clemson doesn’t play anyone good all year and doubly annoyed that includes us.”
Honestly it would probably be in your best interest to pull for us, and A & M, the rest of the season up until Nov. 24th. If it comes down to a few 1 loss teams with Clemson being one of them your schedule could keep you out. I take it you don't agree.

That’s a fair point.  I think we’d be ok with one loss if we win the conference, but that isn’t a certainty.

And I actually pull for you guys 11 weeks out of the year. Some of the best people I know are Gamecock fans, and the season’s a lot more fun when everyone in the state is invested. I just think it’s weird to take a shot at someone’s schedule when your team is on said schedule.

There are a lot of locals who will never go there. Orgeron had one chance to win them over -- 2016 vs Bama. After that -- the dude needs to win multiple national titles.

Not going to lie: Saban leaving set the LSU fan base (and maybe the real-life program, even with a Miles-led title) back 20 years. We really, truly, thought Baton Rouge would be Saban's very last stop.
Of course LSU would have been better off with Saban....but this is a huge stretch.  They won a national championship after he left and played for another one 4 years after that.

That 2011 team may have been the best in LSU history, but Miles only beat Bama once that year,  so the fanbase turned on him.  Doug is right that no one will be accepted as coach until we beat Bama again.  The standard now is that we have to beat the best coach in the history of college football on a fairly regular basis, or we are not successful.   So far though,  I think O is doing a hell of a job.  We'll see how long he can keep it going, but this team is buying in to what O wants to do.

I wasn't really taking a shot at the schedule, just stating the obvious.

Just because I pull for Carolina doesn't mean I think they are anything special. They are still a work in progress and until they beef up the lines they will remain a fringe top 20-25 team at best.

I see that USC is a 2.5 pt favorite at Vandy.  That's going to be a tough game up there.  Hope they're ready.

Penn State plays at Illinois on Friday night at 9. Playing D1 college football on Friday is stupid, especially if it involves a school from a state where Friday night is high school football night and a big part of the local culture.

This game definitely looks tougher than it did 2 weeks ago. I don't know if they're ready but I sure am. I expect to see more run game this week as compared to our last game against UGA.

More CFB on tv is better for everyone!

Nebraska fans are still living in the 90's in their heads, does that count?

Wish somebody would have told the Pac-12 that a few years ago.
