2018 College Football Thread: Local man buys some teenage champions a 4 for 4 (2 Viewers)

Are the following people related?

Glen Logan from LSU and Bennie Logan

Perine from Florida and Samaje Perine

Wallace from ISU and Seneca Wallace

??

whoops, Wallace is on OK State, so retract that.  Those OSU helmets are pretty dope.  Designed by Shepard Fairey?

Just showed Urban Meyer before commercial break down on sideline holding his head...

ETA...apparently he collided with someone on his staff while moving on the sideline.  I thought he was stoking out for a moment.

Are you talking about the team that just blew a 27-7 3rd quarter lead?
Blew it? Nah. Miami was the far better team and displayed it in the second half. FSU was 16 pt dog. Nowhere near where we should be yet but significant progress.

Brian Kelly is Brian Kellying it in in Blacksburg. Virginia Tech's QB is keeping ND in the game and Kelly is doing all he can to blow it.

According to twitter (TxAM/KY) - We are going to Overtime in a game where Kentucky never once ran a play on the Texas A&M side of the field. Amazing.

Georgia steamrolled Vandy. Next four games are against ranked, but flawed opponents

#5 LSU (lost)

#22 Florida (won)

#13 Kentucky (lost)

#8 Auburn (lost)

Georgia ought to be favored in every one and will met Bama in the SEC championship game (otherwise known as the real national championship game).

jeez, Stanford QB the least you could do after throwing a pick in the end zone is to extend your arms as the corner runs past you for a pick 6.

For those scoring at home, things Hunter Renfrow did yesterday.

Caught a pass

Led a scoring drive as a QB (1-1 passing)

Punted the ball - 42 yard avg

The lack of development of Stidham at AU is pretty bad, they can't do much without a power inside run game...although Whitlow seems capable...does the FB and interior OL stink?  And what is going on with the vaunted DL?  @Fat Drunk and Stupid

Gus timed that huge extension well.

Bob Diaco to take over DC duties for OU.  Honestly, a dancing monkey could have done a better job than Mike Stoops!   :fireball:

Yeah it's going to be Ruffin McNeill, and I would bet that he gets job for real this offseason.

Sucks losing to UT but it was so worth it. This week is a bye but I would expect immediate improvement from the defense starting next week. I am feeling good about OU's chances to get back to the conference championship game.

A lot of reports stating that a physical altercation took place in the locker room at halftime against Texas.  Bolton left the locker room and had to be "talked down" to come back in the locker room.  Several players voiced concern to LR and big-time boosters putting pressure on the program.

Just a damn shame it took this long.

I will be really interested to see if anything comes of this story about an “outside” Pac-12 official getting involved in overturning a targeting call.

Kind of makes me wish LHucks still was around to comment. (Note: no, it doesn’t.)

Great article in The Athletic this week called "The Worst Team I Ever Covered".  It's a great read.....

@Uruk-Hai This one is for you!

Ralph Friedgen, after he took over as the head football coach at his alma mater in 2001, approached the head of Outback Steakhouse, a fellow Maryland graduate. Friedgen wanted him to help his program. He was rebuffed.

“I don’t want to be associated with Maryland football,” Friedgen recalled the answer.

That gives you an idea of the program I covered in 1997 – when I was a senior in college, my first major sports beat, and what turned out (to date) to be the worst team I’ve ever covered.

It was also the first year as a head coach for poor Ron Vanderlinden, who had been Northwestern’s defensive coordinator and didn’t know what he was getting into. There was some talent on the roster, including future NFL tailback LaMont Jordan, and a decent staff: Mike Gundy was the receivers coach, Mike Locksley the running backs coach. But Maryland was and remains a basketball school, with football just something to pass the time until then. Once the football team starts losing, the students and the fan base tune out.

That team started losing right away: Ohio University – not Ohio State – but Ohio U., came into Maryland’s stadium and handed Vanderlinden a loss in his debut.

The next week athletic director Debbie Yow summoned beat writers aside at the team luncheon to express support for Vanderlinden. It was the earliest vote of confidence a head coach ever got: One game in.

I’ll always remember those luncheons, getting more painful as the season went on. When Maryland was 2-6, Vanderlinden slipped up as he mentioned the team record, saying “2 and 9.”

“Don’t write that,” Vanderlinden said with a painful smile, looking right at me. “Two and nine. Wow. That’s painful to even think about.”

Three games later, Maryland finished 2 and 9. The wins were over Temple and Duke, by a combined nine points. The nine losses were by a combined 188 points.

Vanderlinden improved the team after that but was fired following his fourth year, replaced by Friedgen, who took the team to the Orange Bowl in his first season.

A year later, his radio show was sponsored by Outback Steakhouse.  :lmao:

HUGE game tomorrow down in Eugene.  Picking my buddy up at PDX and then taking the backroads down - I5 will be a clusters*#@%.  It'll be tight to get there by kick-off; not many 12:30pm kicks at Autzen, but hopefully the game lives up to the hype and the country gets a good one.  Weather will be absolutely perfect; should make for some really great visuals on  your HD TVs.  Will be staying down there overnight.

Cannot wait!  GO DUCKS!

I’m looking forward to watching a big PAC game while I’m still ‘sharp’. Nike buddy says many PDX people can’t get there that early bc of morning kids sports etc so may be some late arriving hoards.

My God, Vanderlinden was awful. I remember talking my boss into buying season tickets because I thought "Coach V" was going to turn Maryland around. I also remember sitting in an empty Byrd Stadium in a cold November rain when Aaron Brooks and Herman Moore of UVA absolutely annihilated the Terps. I think it was something like 45-3 at half. :bag:

It is going to be really hard to get down there because UW fans will be hogging the same highway.  My buddy won't get in until 9am, so we've got 3 hours and 30 minutes to drive 120 miles, park and walk about a mile to the stadium.  It's going to be tight.  I'm going farm roads for the first 80 miles.  Might be slower, but I'll take that over clogged, road raging highway.

So you weren’t on the Vandwagon (worst promotion ever)?
