2018 MLB Regular Season Thread! Current thread batting average: .420 (1 Viewer)

Glad I don't own any Donaldson stock. Couldn't even throw the ball yesterday. No way he can continue to play baseball like that.

I'm no Dr. Andrews but his upcoming free agency complicates matters.  Donaldson is getting paid this year regardless.  At some point, it might make sense for him to shut it down so he'll be 100% for his new employers next year.

Can't he play dh
That would take PAs away from Smoak and Morales.  The Kendrys kontract was questionable at the time and the falling market for bats makes it look even worse now and for 2019.

Maybe the Pirates or Tigers can bring in a tax accountant to pitch the 12th.
Gabe Kapler would have forfeited in the 11th to keep his players fresh

ETA:  I'm going to wear this schtick out like a kid breaking his toys on Xmas morning.

ATLANTA – Pat Neshek is concerned that the shoulder injury that landed him Friday on the disabled list could “be something serious.”

You said baseball is worse than AIDS in the NCAA thread.  So is baseball better than offsides replay?
Might be wearing that joke out. It’s been a really long day.

Yes though, Baseball is better than the offsides penalty.

I'm just a dumb fan, but does anyone think Ryan Braun is actually still using? Honest question. I'm a Brewer fan (obvi) and I'm still not sure. I'd like to think that the lawyers of a small market team could find a way out of his contract if they really had to with another positive test. He's not making the HOF anyway so what's his motive? He's stuck in Milwaukee. Like Cleveland but only kinda better. If he wants to head to LA or wherever via trade they would have to do their due diligence to accept.

I dunno. Drunken rambling after he dropped a bomb in the top of 9 for the win in San Diego.

As @MattGelb reports here, it took Gabe Kapler just 2 games to make managerial history. He’s the first manager ever to use 15 pitchers in the first 2 games of any season.

I was listening to MLB Network on Sirius XM driving home last night and they cut in as Braun's HR happened. The Padres radio call might be one of the weirder things I've ever heard. Even the studio guys were   when they came back.

Trying to find a link.

Kapler should take heed of his fellow rookie manager Dave Martinez and his simple but shrewd bullpen usage.

First, he let's Strasburg go deep into the 7th inning, only removing him after he got into a bases loaded no out jam with Suarez and Votto coming up. He then brings in a soft throwing Solis, whose main pitch is a knuckle curve that tops out at about 78 MPH. After facing Strasburg's heat for seven innings, that knuckle curve bewildered Suarez and Votto, both striking out, Votto caught looking for strike three. Gennett feebly grounds out.

That was excellent to see.

Daniel Mengdon has a sweet mustache and an equally sweet windup.
I'm holding Mengden in Serious Biz with hopes that last year's leap is sustainable.  It's also always good to have a local SP to follow.

He's been decent today.  The Oaklands' defense didn't do him any favors but that's been a consistent issue for the A's.

I miss Dave Magadan.
