2018 MLB Regular Season Thread! Current thread batting average: .420 (2 Viewers)

They’re a gane under .500 without Bum throwing a single pitch. At the quarter pole, there’s no reason to think that they’ll be in sell mode come end of July.

It's a hopeful question.  I was talking to a Yankees homer on Saturday, and I think they are the 4th best team in the AL as far as the playoffs go.  Why?  Because they have Severino and a bunch of ??????????????

They might have to buy two starters before July 31, to me at this point they are seriously deficient.  All these hitters will be shut down in October by two out relievers and strong starters.  :2cents:

They definitely need another. Id be willing to sell the farm for Madbum. I'm talking Andujar, Frazier, etc. Im just not sure if the giants would trade him even if they were out of it. Doesn't seem like something they would do. Who else would even be available?

I think they'd need to give a Torres among others, and like Florimon or Sheffield.  I don't believe in Andujar personally, but I'm not a scout either.

Pitchers that might be available are Hamels, Archer, Bundy, Ervin Santana, and some other notables.  If the Dodgers don't recover then a Rich Hill or Ryu could be available.  Tigers may trade Fulmer, Mets might let go Thor or deGrom but those prices would likely be more than you'd wanna pay.

A Severino, Tanaka, Archer, Bundy rotation would be a lot better than you have now.  To me they need two guys, but definitely one.  MadBum, even if the Giants suck balls, is a pipe dream.  He's a bigger market asset on a team that doesn't have a bleak future.  If he pitched in Seattle or San Diego, sure.  Giants have bank though, they can sit on Madbum forever.

I've never seen the seagull shtick in SF, but there has to be 800000000000 of them in the OF right now.
We went to the game tonight.  It's fascinating to watch them operate.  There are none in the first five innings but the advance scouts arrived in the bottom of the 6th.  Take Me Out To the Ballgame is like a bird call because they appear in a wave over the rim of the upper deck.

Tonight there was a whole mess of birds circling section 143s and about a half dozen landed on the field in short CF.  Almost all of them disappeared briefly in the bottom of the 8th only to reappear en masse in the top of the 9th.

It's really weird that they seem to appear based on the inning rather than the clock.  The Giants had a split doubleheader against the Dodgers during the last homestand and the nightcap started an hour later than usual.  I'm curious if they stayed away an hour longer that night.

If they were out of it in July are they selling him?
For better or worse, that's not the way this organization works.

Yeah, I'd give up some combo of Florial (who I assume you meant), Sheffield, Frazier, & Andujar. I seriously doubt Yanks would ever consider trading Torres. I don't think they think of him as a prospect anymore and just their starting 2B now. He's untouchable IMO.

I thought MadBum would be a pipe dream. The bolded pitchers you mention while solid, don't really move the radar much for the Yankees though. Maybe Archer needs a change of scenery but he hasn't been good in two years. None of the bolded pitchers are better than CC IMO. Not sure why you are leaving him out of the mix. He has basically been a great pitcher since last year. The pitchers you mention after them would be great options. I think they'd give up a ton for Fullmer but the Mets duo won't be made available to the Yankees.

I also dont think the Yankees are the 4th best team in the AL. I can't argue with the Astros and Indians both having better pitching than them but I'd take the Yankees pitching over the Sox right now. Other than Sale and Porcello, the Sox don't have anything great on their staff. Price is miserable now and even worse in the playoffs. And the Yankees bullpen is much better than the Sox.

If Torres is out, and I get why he is, then my knee jerk is Florial + Sheff doesn't get it done - especially if the latter's current shoulder issue has some long term concerns.  Fulmer has value to the Tigers during the transition - minimize wear and tear on the rest of the arms, serve as a leader, stabilizing force, etc.  And if this team is ready to compete again in 2020 then he will be a big reason why.  The variable in all of this is Fulmer's own health though - I'm worried about that arm.

I don’t know if the Rays would sell Archer inside the division. Not that they are particularly competitive, just doesn’t seem like a thing they do.

Then again, he’s been awful this year so they may just take what they can get.

If the D-Back were to falter Corbin would be a real interesting chip. He's a FA after this season. They look like they may be for real though, especially if Corbin keeps it up plus Goldi has to start hitting here soon doesn't he?

the closely packed NL West standings and injuries to Ray and Walker make this unlikely IMO.

Arizona doesn't have much SP depth unless they aggressively promote guys like Taylor Widener or Jon Duplantier from AA.  Their AAA rotation features guys like Kris Medlin, Clay Bucholz and Braden Shipley.

With the start they had, I think its going to be hard for them to fall to the point of being sellers, but...... If there's a team in contention now that I think won't be there come Sept, its this one.

The annual Pollock disappearance is about to begin. Let's see how long it is

We're chasing a 1/2 a season of bad Goldy and there's no end in sight.

The last 1/4 of his 2017 (8/16 forward) was .228/.303/.409, YTD in 2018, .211/.337/.374

Corbin's velo down the last couple of starts too

Godley pitching anything but

Walker - TJS

Robbie Ray and "Go Home" Shelby Miller are big question marks

Even Limp Ditka's staying away and not bumping the bandwagon thread.

I follow game by game velocity charts pretty closely for betting/DFS/streaming purposes and his suggests they trade Corbin like yesterday.

Combine it with his extreme LOB% and BABIP he’s riding and there isn’t a stock in the whole league I’d sell faster.

Also could not participate if they make the playoffs.
Well the good news is they were unlikely to make the playoffs with the rotation they have anyway and now have an escape goat.

Also they can now move Dee Gordon to 2B and just replace a suspended player with one who had been in the past.

Lastly, like a lot of Mariner fans, we won't believe the playoffs are actually a thing until we make it back there.  This isn't even a blow for a lot of us, it's just part of the way they fail this year.

When was the last time Ryan Braun played 3 games in a row without getting hurt?? Never seen a player so brittle...
