Is Betts even human anymore?
) and he looks like he has no chance up there. Pretty much. Miguel Cabrera is another one. Same thing that happened with Ryan Howard too.I think I ask this every year but wtf are the Angels gonna do with Pujols? They still owe him like a 100M for 3 more years after this (![]()
) and he looks like he has no chance up there.
They just keep putting him out there or waive him eventually and just have to pay the bills?
Completely different scenario when you’re signing these guys through 35-36 instead of 40-41.Pretty much. Miguel Cabrera is another one. Same thing that happened with Ryan Howard too.
Something is going to have to give with arbitration and team control. We all know this.
The owners look to be about done handing out the albatross contracts. I’m honestly curious to see what happens in this coming off-season. It’s incredibly dumb to give Harper, Machado, etc. these monster 10 year deals everyone is expecting.
Still dumb.Completely different scenario when you’re signing these guys through 35-36 instead of 40-41.
Not sure what’s odder, the fact that Cash is doing this or that Socicia is too stubborn to change his lineup and stack LH in at least 2 of the first 3 spots.Sergio Romo starting again today![]()
Absolutely love the experiment/shtick Tampa is rolling out and hope it goes well enough to cause other teams to try their own variations.Sergio Romo starting again today![]()
As soon as Scioscia does that, Cash already has won. He's alterating his order for the entire game based on one inning and potentially giving his best hitters fewer at-bats.Not sure what’s odder, the fact that Cash is doing this or that Socicia is too stubborn to change his lineup and stack LH in at least 2 of the first 3 spots.
It’ll take a couple of years to become accepted like Maddon’s extreme shifts were, but it’ll happen.Absolutely love the experiment/shtick Tampa is rolling out and hope it goes well enough to cause other teams to try their own variations.
Teams that score first win what % of games? As soon as Scioscia does that, Cash already has won. He's alterating his order for the entire game based on one inning and potentially giving his best hitters fewer at-bats.
But Romo goes 1, maybe two innings. You're buying a slight advantage - maybe - for 1 inning but hurting your team for the next 8. I honestly don't know how the Angels are supposed to address this. Change your lineup? You're hurting yourself for a lot of the game. Don't change your lineup? You're hurting yourself by making it a shorter game for the opposing arms. I think it's a fascinating approach with no clear way to counter it.Teams that score first win what % of games?
I have wondered if a team could have 7-8 closers and a few Wakefield type inning eater guys and pitch everyone 1-2 innings every other game or every couple of games and then mix in a starter or two every few weeks. Nobody sees the lineup more than once or 1.5 times through the lineup each game. It would be hell for the traditional stat guys but I think it would be very difficult to face game in and game out.But Romo goes 1, maybe two innings. What Tampa is doing has the potential to mess with a lot of traditions on both sides of the ball.
So last night Rod Allen was going on about how the umps need to do something about Zunios blatant pitch framing (maybe 10th inning) and just now he was commending James McCann for his pitch framing work (maybe 4th or 5th)Question: I record John Sterling's Yankee call most games, because he's a buffoon and there's usually a 99% chance of him saying something stupid or missing a call badly. When the Yanks aren't playing, what other announcers would fill the gap for stuff like this? With MLB TV, I can listen to any TV or radio broadcaster. The possibility of dumb or controversial statements would be a bonus.
The M's are the phone to Bret Boone and Julio Cruz.Kraft... said:Dee Gordon to DL, big blow for anyone counting on him for the majority of their steals
Go ahead and start throwing dirt on this grave. They’re doneWith the start they had, I think its going to be hard for them to fall to the point of being sellers, but...... If there's a team in contention now that I think won't be there come Sept, its this one.
The annual Pollock disappearance is about to begin. Let's see how long it is
We're chasing a 1/2 a season of bad Goldy and there's no end in sight.
The last 1/4 of his 2017 (8/16 forward) was .228/.303/.409, YTD in 2018, .211/.337/.374
Corbin's velo down the last couple of starts too
Godley pitching anything but
Walker - TJS
Robbie Ray and "Go Home" Shelby Miller are big question marks
Even Limp Ditka's staying away and not bumping the bandwagon thread.
You’re right and I never would have made that post if I remembered to put Socrates Brito into my calculations.Arizona is 1/2 game back on the 22nd of May. I know that seems like a lot but teams have overcome bigger deficits.
Don't forget about Clay BuchholzYou’re right and I never would have made that post if I remembered to put Socrates Brito into my calculations.
Home runs and walks in Yankee Stadium. What could go wrong.Kind of feel like Hamels pitched himself onto the Yankees last night. Guess we'll see.
He's better than Domingo German, Sonny Gray, and TanakaHome runs and walks in Yankee Stadium. What could go wrong.
Standard small sample size caveats and he's missing bats again so that's encouraging, but he has some ugly looking periph's. Notably regarding GB's vs. FB's (vs. HR's) and hard%. He's wisened up throwing the FB less, but I'd be wary an adjustment is coming from his opposition and his 4.95 FIP is closer to reality than the 3.38 ERA. It really just depends on the quality of the cutter and if his arm is able to handle the increased usage. Maybe the Rangers would give him up for a nothing prospect just to have him off the books next year, but I'd set my sights higher. He's better than Domingo German, Sonny Gray, and Tanaka
Yeah I dont think teams would have to give up much for him which wouldnt preclude a bigger deal. But I just dont see that bigger pitcher being available this year unless the Dodgers decide to blow it all up and trade Kershaw. I think Bumgarner is a pipe dream and Giants may well be the favorite in that division now. Mets would never trade the big two to the Yanks. Fullmer might be the only pitcher available better than Hamels.Standard small sample size caveats and he's missing bats again so that's encouraging, but he has some ugly looking periph's. He's gotta get there in one piece first, but if he does I think Tyson Ross is a lot more interesting than Hamels. UFA at season's end, the Padres suck (again), and while he has well documented BB problems he keeps the ball in the park. He's not a splash, but as you eluded to can't force one if there aren't any available. He doesn't come without risk, but he's a Whole lot better than Camels.Yeah I dont think teams would have to give up much for him which wouldnt preclude a bigger deal. Where have you gone Ron Karkovice/the South Side turns its lonely eyes to you
This has to hurt Seattle's CHW's playoff chances, right?
I appreciate the thought, Rodg...and things are really, really good:Under Armour close to backing out of on-field apparel deal due to financial woes. Nike would then be the on-field brand starting in 2020.
