I think I ask this every year but wtf are the Angels gonna do with Pujols? They still owe him like a 100M for 3 more years after this ( :lmao: :lmao:  ) and he looks like he has no chance up there. 

They just keep putting him out there or waive him eventually and just have to pay the bills?

Pretty much. Miguel Cabrera is another one. Same thing that happened with Ryan Howard too.

Something is going to have to give with arbitration and team control. We all know this.

The owners look to be about done handing out the albatross contracts. I’m honestly curious to see what happens in this coming off-season. It’s incredibly dumb to give Harper, Machado, etc. these monster 10 year deals everyone is expecting.

Completely different scenario when you’re signing these guys through 35-36 instead of 40-41.

As soon as Scioscia does that, Cash already has won. He's alterating his order for the entire game based on one inning and potentially giving his best hitters fewer at-bats.

But Romo goes 1, maybe two innings. You're buying a slight advantage - maybe - for 1 inning but hurting your team for the next 8. I honestly don't know how the Angels are supposed to address this. Change your lineup? You're hurting yourself for a lot of the game. Don't change your lineup? You're hurting yourself by making it a shorter game for the opposing arms. I think it's a fascinating approach with no clear way to counter it. 

What Tampa is doing has the potential to mess with a lot of traditions on both sides of the ball.

I have wondered if a team could have 7-8 closers and a few Wakefield type inning eater guys and pitch everyone 1-2 innings every other game or every couple of games and then mix in a starter or two every few weeks.  Nobody sees the lineup more than once or 1.5 times through the lineup each game.  It would be hell for the traditional stat guys but I think it would be very difficult to face game in and game out. 

I wonder if you could condition the pitchers so that they could pitch 1 inning every game.  Managers could set up their pitching order based on a teams projected lineup as far as RvR or LvL to maximize better matchups.  I think it would work but I am not sure how the pitchers conditioning would work to keep them effective all year long. 

Mix in a couple starters every few weeks to hopefully eat up games so instead have "committee" games when starters are stretched currently you would have a "starter" game where the starter has to eat up innings to save the pen some.

So last night Rod Allen was going on about how the umps need to do something about Zunios blatant pitch framing (maybe 10th inning) and just now he was commending James McCann for his pitch framing work (maybe 4th or 5th)

i mean I know he’s a complete homer but still :lol:

 
The injury could have an impact on Gordon's 2019 fantasy value.  He's only appeared in 3 games at 2B this year.  SBs are so scarce these days that he'll have value regardless of his position eligibility but 2B is still shallower than OF.

Arizona is 1/2 game back on the 22nd of May.  I know that seems like a lot but teams have overcome bigger deficits.

Standard small sample size caveats and he's missing bats again so that's encouraging, but he has some ugly looking periph's.  Notably regarding GB's vs. FB's (vs. HR's) and hard%.  He's wisened up throwing the FB less, but I'd be wary an adjustment is coming from his opposition and his 4.95 FIP is closer to reality than the 3.38 ERA.  It really just depends on the quality of the cutter and if his arm is able to handle the increased usage.  Maybe the Rangers would give him up for a nothing prospect just to have him off the books next year, but I'd set my sights higher.

Yeah I dont think teams would have to give up much for him which wouldnt preclude a bigger deal. But I just dont see that bigger pitcher being available this year unless the Dodgers decide to blow it all up and trade Kershaw. I think Bumgarner is a pipe dream and Giants may well be the favorite in that division now. Mets would never trade the big two to the Yanks. Fullmer might be the only pitcher available better than Hamels.

 
I'm surprised the Yankees managed to get so far below the luxury tax threshold this year.  They can add a couple of big salaries at the deadline and still hit reset on the CBT.

He's gotta get there in one piece first, but if he does I think Tyson Ross is a lot more interesting than Hamels.  UFA at season's end, the Padres suck (again), and while he has well documented BB problems he keeps the ball in the park.  He's not a splash, but as you eluded to can't force one if there aren't any available.  He doesn't come without risk, but he's a Whole lot better than Camels.

Also good for Baseball...Nike will do it right, and Baseball provides a great platform with the long season and events like Spring Training, Mem Day, the 4th, and the Little League Classic.
