2018 MLB Regular Season Thread! Current thread batting average: .420 (1 Viewer)

Futures game was great. Loved seeing all these guys I never get to see in person, in the same place at the same time.

Even though he got mashed, seeing Hunter Greene in person was the best part of the game. 102 mph, 101, 100, 102 and he’s not even 19. Basabe just obliterated that ball he hit though, curious in the exit velocity. The other Reds prospect Trammell looked terrific also.

Fernando Tatis has an amazing presence for a 20-year-old. I’ve seen him before but can’t wait until he’s in the majors.

Celebrity softball game was meh except for Dascha Polanco’s terrific, giant culo. Shaq hitting was funny I guess. There was someone in my section heckling Bill Nye, which was quite amazing.
Pretty sure Keston Hiura went 0-fer but did you get a chance to watch him? Lots of debate around here whether or not he should be a piece in a Machado trade

I want to trade for him in dynasty, he's a pure hitter.  I pointed him out to a non-baseball nerd, and although he let me down, I'd say he's a top 10 hitting prospect for certain.

I see what Milwaukee wants to do this year, but I wouldn't trade this guy for what probably is a rental.  I'd like to see him in the field more, he DHs a lot, but I think he can handle the keystone with work.  He can hit though, no doubt.  Southern League is a good test and he's adjusting well.  I'd say he's ready for fulltime in 2020 but you're gonna see him next year, and he's gonna hit right away.

Based on what the local guys are saying they agree. The guy can hit. He went to AA after what, 2 months in A ball? I think he's #5 overall in baseball prospectus. I consider him an "untouchable" for a Machado. For a deGrom and some control I'd think twice and then think it over again.

I know he's just a rental, but if the Yankees can get Machado without giving up Andujar, Sheffield, or Frazier, that's a move they have to make IMO.

The New York Yankees have offered prospects within the top 10 of their system in trade talks with the Baltimore Orioles for star shortstop Manny Machado.

George King III of the New York Post reported the news but did not name any specific players. The Orioles are expected to trade Machado by the July 31 deadline before he hits the unrestricted free-agent market this winter.
Just 24 hours ago, the Yankees weren’t willing to include top 10 prospects to acquire Manny Machado. Suddenly, things have changed for Brian Cashman.

Rumors claiming the New York Yankees have fallen out of the race to acquire Manny Machado might prove to be premature. Brian Cashman and company have decided to up the ante for Baltimore’s All-Star shortstop.

The Yankees are now reportedly willing to part with top 10 prospects, according to the New York Post, if it will help put a deal over the line. No names of specific prospects are being reported currently, but Baltimore was previously interested in Justus Sheffield. He would provide the Orioles with a starting pitcher with multiple years of team control. That’s believed to be a priority for the organization if they are going to send Machado to an AL East rival.

The recent concession gives them a chance to, once again, trump offers from other interested teams like the Phillies and Brewers. While the Orioles front office would prefer to deal with someone other than New York, they aren’t willing to sacrifice quality to do so. Baltimore officials understand their team is in desperate need of a talent infusion. The Yankees farm system might give them the best chance to position themselves as future contenders.

Questions remain about how the Yankees might choose to use Machado. Didi Gregorius is a superior defensive shortstop, but he’s obviously not the hitter that Machado is. Rookie Miguel Andujar is hitting the ball well at third, but his defense is a serious concern. Machado could force Andujar to find his at bats at another position.

It’s also very possible the Orioles are leaking this “new” stance by the Yankees to improve the offers they’ve received from other teams. The longer the specter of New York remains in the picture for the talented infielder, the better deal the Orioles are likely to receive.

Next: Evaluating the top 3 Yankees trade rumors

The moral of the story here is not to count the Yankees out until Machado is dealt somewhere else. Even then, the team will still be lurking to sign him this winter. Expect rumors of the Yankees acquiring Machado to persist for the foreseeable future.

Breaking; The Dodgers appear to be the leading contender for superstar Manny Machado as talks head toward the finish line. The situation is fluid and brewers and phillies may still have an outside chance. Barring turnabout, deal should be done this week. Story comin on @Fancred
I have no clue what to believe.

The Dodgers do have a solid stockpile of prospects. Guessing Verdugo and a pitching prospect, Alvarez maybe   I don't think they would include Buehler.

Every baseball fan should go to an All Star game if they can. Great atmosphere, good show, the guys playing live it, and hopefully you get to see 10 homers like I did tonight.

The good: Almost everything, the Scooter Gennett homer was shocking, that was maybe the best moment.

At the top of my section was a bunch of Patrick Corbin people. Like 10 people in Corbin jerseys (A Roger Dorn jersey mixed in would have been perfect), but one of them was the hottest chick I’ve seen in a long time. Not sure if that was Patrick’s, but Jesus.

The unrelenting heckling and booing of Joey Votto after he dropped the Segura pop up was terrific. There was a professional heckler in my section who was a Nats fan that was on fire. After he misplayed the Moreland grounder I thought he might just go to the dugout.

After the game a female D’backs fan asked me what I thought of Dave Roberts? “He’s the worst” I said, and she showed me her boobs.

The bad:

Mitch Moreland on the AL All Stars.

Some kids in Yankees jerseys who wanted to stand in our way the whole game. Kids were like seven and the one kid said, “you really gonna ask us to sit when it’s this kids dream to see Aaron Judge hit?”

I said, “it’s my dream to watch a game I paid $310 to see.” Then I called the usher and had the ruffians ejected.

Spent a bunch of ? but worth it, good times. Jean Segura should have been MVP, I’m going to bed.

Maybe he ought to have a word with his teammate who couldn’t hold a lead.

You guys aren't going to believe this, but O's doctors found something in one, or more, of the physicals that they're taking issue with.

Baltimore is unwilling to spend like $3 million (or even less) on international free agents but once another team does so, they're willing to trade Manny ####### Machado for one. Do I have that right?

That’s a decent return for Manny. Diaz is close to being major league ready and the prize.

Not getting Gavin Lux was a loss, Kremer looks like a back of the rotation guy and the rest are ????.

Bannon is an onbase machine but an overachiever to this point. I can see him being the sleeper in this trade.

Baltimore could have gotten more last offseason but it's a decent return for a half-season of Machado.  The Dodgers organization has been better than the O's when it comes to prospect development.

Right now, Diaz looks like a CF bat but without a CF glove.  He's a Cuban 21 so there's room to grow in both areas.

Kremer has performed in hitter's environments in college and the minors.  Double TINSTAAPP for minor leaguers without top shelf stuff.

I don't know what to make of Bannon because you can't trust Cal league numbers.

Zach Pop has a cool name.  I hope he makes it because of that.

I came close to dropping Diaz in Serious Biz a couple times last year but resisted the urge. He was pretty buried in LA, has a much better shot in Baltimore so I'm excited about that. :coffee:

He could be a decent real-life player if he can handle CF but I don't see much fantasy potential.

I’m wondering if his skill set might play up the further he goes. I was surprised he homered twice in the futures game, the second one I had to catch the name rounding 1st because I didn’t know who was up.

He seems like a fairly high floor guy and an every day player. Maybe the Cuban Nick Markakis? O’s Fans would love that.

His floor is the Cuban Austin Hays

A very nice piece of business for Preller.  The Padres picked up Hand from Miami on waivers at the beginning of 2016, got 2 1/2 quality seasons out of him and flipped him for a prospect.

Pundits don't seem to think Mejia will stick at Catcher. Question is will his bat be good enough for a corner IF or OF spot, DH not an option in SD. I'm a believer but time will tell
