2018 rookies, starting now (1 Viewer)

I am still curious about what peoples opinions are on the importance of footwork? Equal to speed or power? Or not as important?
For FF? Footwork. I want a guy that can break the defenders ankles on a move. He can still score at the goal line...if given the chance. The power guy usually doesn't last as long in the NFL. Speed is good but the best RBs now are not the fastest but they have moves.

Speed isn't worth a crap if you can't juke guys and have no power. Lamar Miller and his worthless 4.40 speed being a prime example. Of the top 20 RBs, his long rush of 21 yards = Frank Gore who is 33 years old. Blount, Crowell, Lynch all have much longer runs. Plodder Jordan Howard's long run is double Miller's.

Ok thanks.

I think I agree and will weight that equally with the other traits.

I only recently have learned about footwork (because of Bishop Sankey lacking it) so its a somewhat newer thing that I look for.

It does overlap somewhat with vision and elusiveness.

No true, several of us was taughting Hunt and many were taughting Karma. The GREATEST asset to FBGs is this board. If you click on the right thread you’ll strike gold. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but you have to know what you’re looking for.

Last December?  No.  People might have been saying "keep an eye on" or "I like this kid" but no one was calling top-5 potential/performances from them.

FWIW I had Hunt lower in the pre NFL draft evaluation than I did post NFL draft.

The draft position and fit with Andy Reid were the things that caused me to bump him up to the 5th overall RB for 2017.

Pre NFL draft I had him 6th overall, after Kamara. I rated them both as tier 2b which meant that they would not become tier one players after the draft. I stuck with that until Hunt exploded early on in the regular season when I felt forced to upgrade this to tier one.

I expected Hunt to time share with Ware for the first half of the season at the time that I did the rankings. So him being injured changed that quite a bit.

Yes I see Andy Reid as being a good fit for a RB, especially the RBs opportunity to catch passes. There are some bad things about being with Andy Reid as well though, when he seems to forget to get his RB the ball.

You don't really mean overall RB, right?  You mean rookie RB?  Or perhaps rookies overall?  Because if you were ranking Kamara as the 5th overall RB in the NFL behind only EZE, Bell, DJ, and Gurley I'm just gonna bow down to you now and offer you a couple hundo for your 2018 rankings :)

I'll assume you meant just rookies .  I agree after the draft Hunt was a little easier to rank higher - I had him 8 overall and Kamara 10.  I didn't get a chance to take Kamara anywhere but I got Hunt in 3 of 5 drafts.

But post-draft is a lot different than December, which is when Petekrum was referencing and what my comment was focusing on.  Hunt and Kamara were pretty distant dreams at that time.

Yes just rookie rankings.

I wasn't ranking these guys in December although I had already seen some of Hunt from rookie evaluations from years prior. He was one of the guys who caught my interest in 2014. his best college season, long before he was going to come into the NFL. The 2014 RB class turned out to be pretty weak, so guys like Hunt Chubb and Perine were standing out to me at RB that year, just ineligible. I hadn't heard of Kamara until last year. I thought Kamara had better speed than Hunt was the main reason I had him ahead of Hunt by a couple spots pre NFL draft.

I think I misspoke though. I had Kamara 7th and Hunt 8th pre NFL draft. Post NFL draft  I missed Perine and Foreman who I had tier 2a along with Mixon.

Pre NFL draft

Tier One

Corey Davis
Dalvin Cook
Christian McCaffrey
Leonard Fournette
Evan Engram
OJ Howard
David Njoku

Tier Two

2a

Joe Mixon
John Ross
Zay Jones
Samaje Perine
D'Onta Foreman
Curtis Samuel

2b

Mike Williams
JuJu Smith-Schuster
Alvin Kamara
Chris Godwin
Gerald Everett
Kareem Hunt
Taywan Taylor
Cooper Kupp
Marlon Mack
Deshaun Watson
Deshone Kizer
Patrick Mahomes
Mitch Trubisky

Post NFL draft

2017 post NFL draft

Tier One

(5) Corey Davis Titans
(41) Dalvin Cook Vikings
(8) Christian McCaffrey Panthers
(4) Leonard Fournette Jaguars
(48) Joe Mixon Bengals
(22) Evan Engram Giants
(17) OJ Howard Buccaneers
(29) David Njoku Browns

Tier Two

(7) Mike Williams Chargers
(9) John Ross Bengals
(37) Zay Jones Bills
(86) Kareem Hunt KC Chiefs
(62) JuJu Smith-Schuster Steelers
(89) D'Onta Foreman Texans
(67) Alvin Kamara Saints
(114) Samaje Perine Redskins
(40) Curtis Samuel Panthers
(69) Cooper Kupp Rams
(72) Taywan Taylor Titans

(12) Deshaun Watson Texans
(10) Patrick Mahomes KC Chiefs
(2) Mitch Trubisky Bears
(52) Deshone Kizer Browns

(44) Gerald Everett Rams
(82) Carlos Henderson Broncos
((117) Josh Reynolds Rams)) was ranked here before Watkins trade.
(84) Chris Godwin Buccaneers
(134) Jamaal Williams Packers
(143) Marlon Mack Colts
(132) Donnell Pumphrey Eagles
(100) Jonnu Smith Titans

So post draft Hunt jumped Perine, Foreman and Kamara in my rankings.

There’s a difference between taugting a player and having them perform to the level those two did. I also liked and recommended both players but never in my wildest dreams did I expect this type of production.

Agreed, they both have similar traits that other very successful RBs have so it’s not surprising.
