2019 College football thread - It's 2020, yo. Go to the new thread. (1 Viewer)

If I were a Georgia fan the Fromm over Fields decision would be a deal breaker for Kirby for me. You can’t make a decision that bad.
Maybe - I’m too biased to be rationale about it but Fromm led them to SEC championship and almost NC.  Kid is good and poised.  I’m wondering if we’ll find out he’s injured.  I mainly pointed it out because it will drive UGA fans crazy.  If someone wants to send me an OSU Fields Jersey I will where it to Xmas dinner and film the hilarity when my UGA relatives see it.

Lots of good stuff yesterday but one of my favorites was Kirby punting with 5 minutes left.  That was so Richt-esque.  He’s better than Richt though.  UGA’s problem appears to be they made the wrong decision in the Fromm vs. Fields debate.  Fromm seems to be either hurt or overrated - lots of missed throws, especially under throwing guys.
Sorry to reply to myself but I still can’t believe he punted and kind of surprised he wasn’t crushed in here.  Why punt there - did he think if he managed to keep the loss under 30 that somehow they would consider UGA over OU?

Burrow was a 4-star. Fields was an elite 5 who was considered one of the best qb prospects in years.  Not even close to the same thing.
I thought they said on the game yesterday Burrow was a 3 star, which just helps your point.  Kid looks great - hard to believe he was a 3 star (if true).

Although I get what he’s saying - Fromm won big pressure games and played well doing it.  It’s obvious that decision was driven by Fields - they couldn’t commit to making him the full time starter and he bailed.  I can’t blame him and as much as I hate UGA, I can’t really blame Kirby either.  It was a no-win situation.

So did Indiana this year. So what?

What OSU did over the past 3 weeks hasn't been accomplished in 34 years. LSU beating A&M is
It’s a good stat, impressive and OSU is a great team but LSU beat Auburn, Alabama and Georgia - just because they didn’t blame them 3 weeks in a row doesn’t really matter, IMO.

I'm not surprised LSU got #1, but I do find it surprising that some people think OSU passed LSU last week by beating Michigan, and this week simply reversed what happened last week. It's like OSU passing LSU before even playing Michigan didn't even happen.

Bama v Michigan / Saban v Harbaugh in the Citrus will be entertaining...off the field at least. (Bama may be missing 40% of its starters.)

I never replied to that - I misspoke.  Not sure how that changes anything but yes, they passed them after Penn State.  I still think LSU’s resume is more impressive.

Peach Bowl in Atlanta and the Fiesta Bowl in the Phoenix AZ area. IIRC, #1 selects their location - LSU is expected to choose Atlanta.
I thought that too, but ESPN said the committee will listen to the #1 seed, but they make the final decision.

IMHO Michigan and TAMU are fairly close in quality despite the rankings and records. I don’t anticipate that we’ll agree.
Tamu has the one interesting feature that like the XII entire out of conference play, their best win was versus a team that was a lifted leg away from a losing record.

Are you saying the location of the national championship game is chosen by one of the schools a few weeks before the game? That seems unlikely.

@gsmitter: Sources: The 75th @taxslayerbowl will match @Vol_Football vs. @IndianaFootball on Jan. 2 at 7 p.m., at TIAA Bank Field. Projections on Sunday that put @UKFootball vs. Hoosiers were wrong. Gator Bowl worked long and hard to get the Vols, who are 4-2 in the game.

Wyoming going to the Arizona Bowl in Tucson. Tix are dirt cheap, but flights to Phoenix from Tampa are stupid expensive. Bummer.  :kicksrock:

Atlanta and Phoenix are the locations of the semi-final games this season.  The championship game is in New Orleans.  Future championship games are:

2021 – Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.

2022 – Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.

2023 – SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

2024 – NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.

What is driving this considering NBA and similar playoff systems don't require anything like this.
Not exactly sure what you mean...pre-set locations vs top seeds hosting? It’s no different timing wise than the Super Bowl.

These venues bid to host these games, they don’t play at a home stadium.
And they are so full of  events on their calendar they can't possibly make room for one game?

NBA venues book tons of concert events, are they just banned from making X nights dark in the playoff season?

The existing bowl system has lots of hands in the cookie jar.

It will will never go away, and we will never get a real playoff system, without people who are making a lot of money now no longer making that money in the new system.

The Semi games are of course still part of the Bowl system:
2015- Rose and Sugar, again in 2018
2016  -Orange and Cotton, again in 2019
2017 - Peach Fiesta, again in 2020.

With the playoffs set, at least I know I will have someone to pull for ... whoever wins the LSU/Oklahoma game, or more correctly put, against whoever wins the Clemson/Ohio State game.
