Should probably go to bed, because I'm gonna go smash through some folding tables in the morning, but hey, San Jose State is beating Boise State by 10 in the 3rd, so
Wait,  you're a member of Bills Mafia?

Taggart fired
I guess they had to “give it the proper time” but this decision could have been several games ago. I guess there was no hurt  in waiting and making sure there was not some miraculous turnaround but it was obvious he’s not the guy.

Any rumors besides Urban Meyer on your next coach?

surprised Bama-LSU isn't a night game.  Thought CBS usually did that when the game is this big.  Counter-programming Fox stealing the early window, which may be carry over to later games?
I believe - and could be wrong - that ESPN usually has the night slot for this game. When CBS has it, it's an afternoon game.

ETA:  What @Long Ball Larry said.

No clue really. Personally I want the Memphis or Iowa state coach.

Florida State Seminoles athletic director David Coburn said head football coach Willie Taggart could get hit by a bus and he wouldn’t hire Urban Meyer.  So he is probably at the top of their list.

I like to think schools have plans and have reached out through back channels to gauge interest before they fire coaches.  You end up with Bill Callahan when you don't.  Do you think FSU already has a short list?

For sure. I’m sure they have a list and probably have the feedback they wanted.

@KegsnEggs: Regardless of who they hire, congratulations in advance to all the coaches and agents who will be receiving new contracts over the next two months simply because Florida State and soon USC are open. Y'all have earned it.

"Taggart brought in Kendal Briles as offensive coordinator in the offseason hoping to fix many of the problems the Seminoles had last year, but they still rank in the bottom half of the country in scoring offense (27.2 points per game) and total offense (393.2). "

are those numbers, as reported by ESPN,  right??? 27 pts and 400 yards is BOTTOM HALF of offensive stats in college football???

OkState is 10th in total offense with 500.00 yards per game. FSU is 79th

Bud Elliott (best FSU reporter imo) thinks they go hard after Bob Stoops first. Not only because of prior success but he could basically start right away.

Why would Franklin jump from PSU to FSU other than the weather?  He has roots in PA and the programs are still on roughly the same tier.

I don’t think Penn State is on the same tier. FSU has won 3 titles and played for like 3-4 more since PSU has. But I doubt it’s him.

Gotta think Huepel over Bob Stoops and Meyer. I just can’t imagine a scenario where those would happen.  Campbell or Rhule would be a huge get.

Out of all those names, I’m pulling for Jimbo or Harbaugh just because it would be funny.

Somebody said the limit on those bets is like 25 bucks so I wouldn’t take them too serious. Some real book will release odds today and those will be the ones to take serious imo.

I go back and forth but I’d be happy with almost any name on that list. Jimbo is just shtick.

ESPN College Gameday setting up on Beale Street for SMU at Memphis

Cool pic

More photos and a story about some details.

Liberty Bowl is just about sold out (~60k) and the town is amped up. Should be an interesting Gameday / Game Atmosphere. :banned:

Im skipping town for my Folks’ 70th birthday cruise on Celebrity in the Caribbean, little bummed I’m missing it.

Have fun @bryhamm!
Gameday was pretty damn cool.  Thought Beale would be packed the whole day, but when it ended at 11am CT, most of the folks scattered.

Just saw on twitter that Michael Divinity has left the LSU program.  Crazy the week of the Alabama game.  Is this one of the Christian McCaffrey cases where he's saving himself for the NFL payday just doing it a month earlier or is there more to the story?

Failed a drug test, which wasn't the first time.

Bama opens -7.
Implies that Bama would be -1 in Baton Rouge, roughly.

I can't say it's out of line, though ... LSU will have to fight the ghosts of the past, illogical as it may be. I know current LSU players don't carry around memories of past years. But ever since that January 2012 title game, Alabama has had some kind of hold over LSU. Might be totally intangible. Might even be total BS. But it nevertheless must be mentally overcome. Gigantic challenge for Orgeron and his staff.

EDIT: And now we're down Divinity. Hope others can step up.

Would FSU hire Bob Stoops and pray that he finds the next Lincoln Riley to run his offense?
Bump

I cannot believe Taggart didn't even last two full seasons.  That's astonishing to me.  When he left Oregon, fans were hurt, some were pissed, most were surprised but if we're being honest, we knew this was his dream job.  His family wanted to move back to Florida the minute they got to Eugene, so it made sense.  But I don't think anybody saw this coming.  Wow.

I don't know why I feel this way, but I don't feel like Mario Cristobal is going anywhere.  I think he likes Oregon.  Could be wrong, but I get the feeling he likes where he's at....almost like he's appreciative.

Campbell is interesting. He's an amazing coach, and any warm body should be able to recruit at FSU, but I guess that would be the only concern from their perspective.

I’m still chuckling over some FSU booster being like sure I’ll pay 20 million to fire this guy. How do you ever even come to that decision. It’s football.
Yeah, no kidding.

Makes me wonder -- if these deep-pocket boosters don't step up with buyout cash ... do floundering coaches tend to last significantly longer? Like would Taggart have rode out to the 2020-21 offseason without THIS ONE GUY putting up $20 million?

I’m sure. Doubt schools want to take this kind of money out of whatever general fund they have.
