2020-21 NBA *Playoffs* Thread: Bucks are the champs and you can take that to the bank bromigos (1 Viewer)

I'm more than done with hearing 'these teams haven't won a championship for so long/forever.

They're here.

How about commenting on the actual game?

Halftime's almost over.

And you were (likely) the only one who knew what team you were talking about.
It was pretty clear in context and with the 'even with' transition I was still talking about Mil.   Thr biggest odds are with you giving your petty snarkiness a rest.

The Bucks defense isn't taking away anything.  Gotta take something away and make the Suns go with plan B and C.  That's just not happening and the biggest culprit is Brook Lopez.  As others have mentioned, the defensive switching scheme doesn't work with him on the perimeter against Booker and Paul.  Also, he's getting roasted on pick and rolls inside with Ayton finishing or grabbing the open offensive board. Add in some lethargic close outs and one especially poor rebounding effort and Phoenix is pulling away.  It's just game 1, but the Suns are perfectly built to beat the Bucks...and it's showing tonight in many ways.

he can't be asked to defend guards. he's being put in the blender because the smaller guys aren't doing enough to prevent penetration and easy looks.

Both Lopez or Portis.  The switching is being done automatically, with no real pick necessary.  Way too easy for the Suns to exploit.  No in game adjustment to that the entire game that I've seen.  It worked against a hobbled Trae Young, but this isn't going to work.

4th quarter starts and Bud is playing a small lineup with Giannis at the 5.  Makes sense if they're going to continue switching.

Like this smaller lineup.  I think the Bucks need to build a team around Giannis as the 5 for the best long term success.

I realize this won't fit the Mark Jackson bad announcer talking points, but the player Phoenix would be in trouble without is DeAndre Ayton.  His play inside just can't be replaced by any other Sun.

Since I was watching the golf more, can someone tell me if the disparity in free throws is from home cookin or just coincidence?

Suns 21 attempts (made all of them, wow)

Bucks 10 attempts

Seems like the Bucks should be trying to get good looks for 3s instead of sending Giannis into the paint for dubious FT attempts.

Usually the more aggressive team has more rebounds, more offensive rebounds, more assists, more points in the paint, or at least one of those.  The Bucks lead in every one of those categories right now...must not be aggressive enough.
Suns are better at drawing the fouls?

I think the officiating has been fine.
In the 1st half Booker got a couple questionable calls that Middleton and Holiday didn’t get but that’s not why the Bucks lost.  Bud’s defensive game plan was horrible and Holiday had an subpar game.

Agreed.  Game 1 was officiated as well as most NBA games are.  In the end I don't feel it was the difference in the game, so it's a non-story.  Bucks just have to figure out their defensive matchups.

Only nitpick I had was the non-Ayton Suns activity in the defensive paint...a lot of "aggressiveness" against the Bucks was let go.  Which makes sense for The Finals.  In comparison it was tough to see Paul and Booker at the line over and over on minor jump shooting contact multiple times each.  However, the Flagrant 1 on Lopez was called correctly against Paul on his 3FGA, as was the Booker kickout offensive foul.  Overall, it was fine.

I see what you're saying.

I hope this isn't an NBA Finals where they give a Lifetime Achievement Award to Chris Paul.  I have been getting that feeling in the games leading up to this.
Paul just had 32 pts and 9 assists in a win.  He's well on his way and if this continues he deserves it.  Stop hating
