2020 College football thread - It's the offseason, yo. (3 Viewers)

I hate to have a Bill Simmons-like take here, but that has to be the worst personnel decision a coach has made in 30 years? I can’t think of anything worse.
Fromm was coming off leading them to the CFP final as a freshman, but man the talent gap must have been obvious. There is some backstory about Kirby and Fromm’s dad.

Through 62 games:

Richt: 50-12 (29-9)

Smart: 48-14 (29-9)

Ho hum, just another 4 hour football game.  They gotta speed these games up or people will start tuning out.  I know I often skip big parts of 1st halves now...just not interested in spending this much time watching a single game.
I fell asleep late in the 4th.  Seemed like that game was on for 5 hours. Tony Dungy sounds like a zombie doing the games.  Tirico is really good calling the game, Dungy is better in studio.

True but yea. Coach has to see a once in 15 years QB when he has them. They could have won two National titles. Fromm was just another guy.

Well, weirdly enough, the Buckeyes probably should be very thankful that Fields IS actually really good after the season Burrows had last year (and how legit good he looks in the NFL). Otherwise the same thing could have potentially been said about OSU.
That’s true but was Burrow considered that good? Obviously a coach should be able to tell. But Fields was a mega 5-star.

So ND is in the playoff right? Only games left are Bc, UNC, Syracuse and Wake - if they lost to Clemson in the ACCCG I doubt that would knock them out, unless it was like a 63-10 score or something.

No, if they lose to Clemson they are not a guarantee as an undefeated USC or Oregon will leapfrog them.
Neither one of those teams would have a win over a #1 and the CFP wouldn’t punish ND too much for playing Clemson again. They’ve shown before they don’t just count losses.

We'll see.  I don't see committee putting in two ACC teams over an undefeated PAC 12 team.  If USC and Oregon are each undefeated going into Pac 12 championship game they are both top 5-10 teams at that point.
The PAC-12 has consistently shown they will shoot themselves in the foot while said foot is in their mouth.

I don’t think so. I think the narrative would be that a loss in the ACCCG for ND would be against the “real Clemson” with Lawrence.

Texas A&M could be a sneaky playoff team as well with the SECW looking really shaky let alone the PAC teams aforementioned.

Calling it now too - BC plays ND close next week too. They always hang with us and Jukovec has added motivation to stick it to Kelly.

I know you were wondering...Bama extended it’s consecutive years reaching #1 in the AP Poll’ to 13 today.  Late 80’s/early 90’s Miami is second with 7 straight.

The committee is not going to consider Notre Dame an ACC team for double bid purposes like they would BC, UNC, etc.

Missouri game knocked now too. More SEC games cancelled than actually playing this weekend.

it just means more

@DanaONeilWriter

Sources tell The Athletic that the Ivy League has canceled the winter sport season. Spring sports delayed until at least March

BREAKING: Boise State has 14 players OUT due to COVID protocol, including NINE positive tests.

game kicks off in 20 minutes. Seems fine lol

Can we just do a tournament with all stars from each conference.   Each conference fields one team and they play a single elimination tournament.  Last team/conference standing wins the NCAA Football Title 2020.

I think it’s time to shut it down entirely, this is silly
While I mostly agree there is a part of me that understands how these kids want to play.  For many - this is the end of their playing days.  Missing out due to a pandemic sucks.  Same for HS kids.  In the grand scheme of things it’s nothing but I get it.

Yes I agree about the players wanting to play. But this is a total farce, two pac schools scheduled a game for Sunday, TODAY

I agree that the kids want to play, but it is a "free" year of eligibility if they want to stick around.  At least that was the word earlier.  I would understand if they want to call it  career with everything going on.

ETA:  I have no idea what the NCAA is planning to do with scholarship limits  and incoming class if a bunch of current scholarship players want to stick around.
