2020 College football thread - It's the offseason, yo. (6 Viewers)

@BruceFeldmanCFB: BREAKING: #SouthCarolina has parted ways with Will Muschamp, per sources.

@JoshTheAthletic: Will Muschamp's buyout is just north of $13 million. It was cut slightly as part of the most recent amendment to his contract. There had been growing concern among school officials and supporters that continued fan apathy could cost South Carolina more.
He really has earned being bought out. His team is undisciplined and he cannot stop anyone. Defense gave up 159 points over the last three games and he is starting a 5th year transfer instead of young talent at QB. Although the latter may be a Bobo thing.

Muschamp is a very good recruiter, but doesn't seem to develop players and is too stubborn for an ever-evolving game. Makes extremely poor in-game decisions and just should not be a HC.

I'm still amazed they would spend this money given all the impact COVID has on athletic budgets. That is just a sense of how much the fan base had turned against him. SC should be shopping for a new AD too.

I agree with all of this. Especially the part about the AD. God bless him that he won back to back baseball championships but he isn't a great AD. He's 0-2 on hiring baseball coaches and I have zero confidence that he can make a good hire in football. ZERO.

Don't know if you watched any of the Michigan game last night, but it's a perfect illustration of what I'm talking about.  It's fine to get "top 10" classes because they are signing 27,28,30 kids to a class with a mix of 3 and 4 star (occasional 5 star mixed in) IF you're going to develop those lower level guys.  This is kind of why I've stopped following recruiting.  A team ranked at #4 with 20 kids total (3 5 stars and a bunch of 4 stars with a couple 3 stars) is significantly different in #5 team with 28 kids total (no 5 stars, several 4 stars and a bunch of 3 stars).  MIchigan isn't doing that and the defensive line last night is a perfect example.  Their best DEs were both out...one's out for the year.  There is no "next man up" on this team.  If there is a ***** in the armor and the first string guys go down, there is a SIGNIFICANT drop off to the next level.  It's brutal.  So when a team like that loses all the talent they did plus get specific injuries in the season, you get the turd product they are producing.  There's no reason for this at all.  I'm not sure why I am just noticing now, but it's smacked me in the face this year and as I look back the last couple of years, it's a pattern and it rests squarely on the coaching staff.  They don't seem to be able to put players in a position to succeed.  They throw them into the pre-established system and hope.

Ok done with my rant....  :D
That's great background vs looking at rankings.  I'm surprised he's doing this poorly in big games...but he always seemed distracted by unimportant but attention-getting antics.  It's too difficult a job to waste time traveling to southern satellite camps.

I'm not...for all the reasons I've given.  At some point collecting raw talent (I hear that about well over 70% of the kids they recruit) does no good if you can't capitalize on developing that talent and making the stud everyone sees under all the issues.

Would love to see that but can’t imagine the committee lets them in with their schedule. That QB can play.
Well, they torched Boise State on the Blue Turf and really, all that's left is San Diego State, so I agree.  But, if they run the table and there's more crashes in front of them, I think they'll at least deserve some consideration.

Hello people.  I'm new to the internet, definitely this website, and certainly this thread.

I enjoy the colors orange and blue.  I think eagles are neat, and UVA basketball is a bunch of cheaters.

If any of this info coincides with any other poster who was recently permabanned, it's a total coincidence, and i'm 100% not an alias.

TIA

Welcome Aloof.  Curious to know what might possibly have gotten another poster permabanned in this era of humor and tolerance.

Seems like you are going to....wait for it.....flounder in here.

I know most everybody will be watching a good NFL tilt tonight, but Tulsa/Tulane could be a pretty solid little game too.  Though I'm not sure who came up with the schools' mascots.....Crayola maybe?

So tired of hearing the announcers gripe and complain about replays.  "The game takes too long!"

This is your job to announce the game just do it without the complaining.   Who goes to a football game or watches from home and thinks to themselves I sure hope this game is over in two hours I have stuff to do.

Maybe if the announcers are too overwhelmed with the length of the College football game they could just do one half and have relievers come in for them at halftime.  GTFOH with that griping.

It sure sucks that the NCAA wants to get the call correct.
Reviews are the worst thing in sports, especially college sports.  If it's close, let's review!  95% of the time it's not necessary.  98% of the time it doesn't get overturned.  99.99% of the time the call was correct on the field....until now where the refs are told to error on the side of the turnover.  Tulsa just got screwed on this...1 minute ago.

ECU got screwed where the call on the field was WRONGLY OVERTURNED on replay.  Ref stares into a screen for 4 minutes and STILL gets it wrong.  Don't even get me started on NCAAA hoops in the last 2 minutes of the game.  EVERY OTHER PLAY is reviewed, with the same ratio.  Let refs do their jobs, give coaches a finite number of challenges, and keep the games and momentum moving.

Technology has ruined society...including sports.

@Capella assuming you've had time to read and absorb the ESPN article on the "6 year unraveling" of FSU, i'm curious to hear your thoughts.
Ehhhh #### happens. I mean what are you going to do? They had a pretty remarkable run for 30 years with almost no breaks in the consistency and now they have to pay the piper. It just seems like it was a really bad string of events that all happened together and now they have to totally rebuild. I like Norvell and think he was a good hire but if he doesn’t work out it will take them a whole decade to rebuild.

The parts about Taggart were unbelievable though. A former player saying his practices were little league, and the fact that FSU rounded up the buyout money after GAME ONE last year. Lol. They were done with him immediately.

God, the greatest thing that ever happened to Oregon was Florida State lulling Taggart away.  Better to be lucky than good!

Tossed $25 on Tulsa -5.5 and wanted an alt game to watch when Sea/AZ went to commercial.  I flipped over a few times and when it was 14-0 Tulane and Tulsa was down to their 3rd string QB, I wrote the loss off and moved on with my life.

Forgot about it until I checked my account - TULSA FREAKING WON!  In 2 OT.......AND COVERED THE SPREAD!!!!!!1111  :pickle: :towelwave:

They threw a Hail Mary to send it to OT and ran a pick-6 back about 95 yards to win

From 2015 on, Fisher struggled to regain command of the locker room, often with embarrassing results. It started with the "Yellow Brick Road," a yellow mat painted to look like the yellow brick road from "The Wizard of Oz" that ran along the path to the practice field. Fisher explained at the time that it was to remind players what their purpose was and "what we have to attain." For a program two years removed from a national championship, it was seen as a bizarre tactic.
:lmao:

Contrary to some opinions here, coaching a major program is as hard as it gets in sports...as Harbaugh is showing...lose focus and it could set your program back years, no matter who you are.

To me, Harbaugh is a case where what worked 10 years ago, heck 2 years ago, isn't going to work today. You better be ready to roll with the changes. And that is solely talking Xs and Os. Societal change as it applies to recruiting and discipline is a whole nother beast.
