2020 College football thread - It's the offseason, yo. (4 Viewers)

So if we roll out seeds like

8 Oklahoma* at 1.Bama*

7. Oregon* at 2. Clemson*

6. Cincy# at 3. tOSU*

5. TAMU# at 4. ND#

* indicates P5 conference champ

# indicates at large
This would be just so much better.

I know ISU had a really good season by their standards, but man they have to be kicking themselves on missing out. Losing to UL, OK St by 3, and then how yesterday ended.

Smitty takes the Vegas lead for Heisman:

Smith -200

Mac +125

Najee +650

Lawrence +2000
Surprised Lawrence is so low.  Not saying he deserves it but he's the name brand so his chances have to be higher.  And those three Bama guys could split votes too

Really depressing for Cincy. If there were ever a year to do it, this is the one. 16 with all conference champs, early round games on campus needs to happen so bad.

Yea, 16k in Dallas but Notre Dame freaking travels.
I don't know if Georgia is different than bama, but the fans of those SEC programs aren't hesitant with dropping the cash on a big game.  I remember a few years back when Georgia played at ND and the place was filled with red.

Big10 covid policy of 21 days to be changed to make sure team will be at full strength?  But of course.  Should go ahead and stop testing altogether.

Someone pops positive? No problem, just don't report it if there are no symptoms.  It's the year of adjustments. Do what it takes!

To me, this is more devastating to the future of minor bowls than the Rose Bowl relocating. If there's no PinStripe Bowl and nobody misses it...

@Brett_McMurphy: Minnesota’s decision to opt out means there could now be up to 3 bowls canceled today, sources told @Stadium. It depends on decisions by a number of Big Ten teams
B10 season was an abortion. OSU should get the boot from the playoff.

Tulsa barely lost to OSU. Iowa State lost to ULL. There are others. The good G5 teams are right up there.

I agree with Davis (I believe was who said it) that Houston a few years ago was the blueprint - beat teams in P5 that finish well and win you confidence. Houston didn’t win its conference but the point is valid I think.

The problem is how to get G5 enough good P5 teams on their schedules going forward. P5 teams look to doormats in G5 for pseudo bye weeks and aren’t wanting to add a Boise or UCF or Cincinnati. Not sure how this situation changes much otherwise.

I’m curious for non-ND fans - what would you consider as a successful showing for ND?

I think even we fans know that we aren’t winning or that’d be the answer. But to quiet down the murmurs of “every time they’re in the playoffs...”

Under 10 point Bama victory? What would it take to make ND feel like they had earned their way into the 4 slot?

IMO, they need to hang with Bama at least to the end of the 3rd quarter. And by “hang”, I’m thinking along the lines of how Florida stayed with the Tide last night.

If it’s 28-3, 31-3, or 35-3 at the half, I’m going to be here saying they didn’t deserve to be there.

3 loss Iowa State in the fiesta.

They lost to Lafayette at home by 17.

Coastal is undefeated and beat Lafayette. The committee literally does not care.
It’s not about sport, it’s about maximizing profit. The only consideration is money.

Here you go ... my annual(-ish) attempt at this:

1. Alabama
16. Ball State

8. Cincinnati
9. Georgia

4. Notre Dame
13. San Jose State

5. Texas A&M
12. Coastal Carolina

2. Clemson
15. UAB

7. Florida
10. Iowa State

3. Ohio State
14. Oregon

6. Oklahoma
11. Indiana

Based on conference champ auto bids, final CFP rankings (except UAB and Ball State).

Sure, some woofers in there, but that's your incentive to be a 1-2 seed. Normally include 3 in there, but Oregon wouldn't be your typical 14.

Those fanbases are similar, though Bama fans have spent a ton of $ the last decade traveling, and I’m sure will be saving for Miami if it’s either/or. There is a base in Dallas so local Bama fans will help.

Cincinnati
record: 9-0
Top 25: 3-0
Above .500: 5-0
Opp win %: .560

and they don’t have 2 losses in the 4th best conference.
80th ranked schedule. Seven home games, including hosting the conference championship. 1-0 versus top 25 teams not 3-0. If we're going to discuss this, at least be accurate with the context of your facts. I'll go with Sagarin which has OU at 4 and Cincy at 13 and the B12 as the 2nd best conference.

2-8 South Carolina gets a nod over 9-win Army? wut
Wins don’t matter in college football, just look at the Sagarin ratings despite there being no non-conference games and each team’s BORF percentage.

How on earth are they comparing conferences with no data points to show comparisons between each conference?

Covering the spread would be a heck of a way of earning a modicum of respect from this non-ND fan.

But they won't.

Interesting fact from the Athletic:

Josh Kendall

Staff Writer, South Carolina

South Carolina becomes the first two-win team in college football to accept a bowl bid since 1945, when it was accomplished by a team that finished the regular season 2-3-3. That team was also South Carolina. Those Gamecocks fell 26-14 to Wake Forest in the Gators Bowl. (The NCAA removed the usual six-win requirement for eligibility this season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.)

Get rid of the conference championship games and make this happen.  If some of the big programs are worried about the number of games played, they can get rid of one of those early season directional school beat downs.

Does Muschamp get a bowl bonus?

There had to be 40K Georgia fans there during the tailgaiting.

This afternoon, Bowl season prepares us for Bama-ND with the inaugural Dirty Myrtle Bowl featuring App State favored by 21.5 over North Texas.
