2020 Week 17 Flex Game Speculation Threas (1 Viewer)

With 2 weeks to go let's fire up this evergreen thread.

This year it seems like there are a couple of clear choices with perhaps one or two less likely prospects.

Washington vs Philadelphia

Things would need to fall just right for this to be a lock but this is still the most likely game if Washington loses to Carolina this week (resulting in them almost certainly needing this game).  If you couple this with an Eagles win this week and a Giants loss then this becomes a playoff game.  But if Washington clinches - forget it.

---

Pittsburgh vs Cleveland

Barring the playoff situation above this is the most likely matchup.  If Pittsburgh loses to Indy and Cleveland takes care of business vs the Jets this is at least for the division.  It is even possible that Cleveland may need to the game to make the playoffs if their playoff rivals keep winning.

Giants vs Cowboys - if Giants win this week and Washington loses this turns into a win and your in game for the Giants and possibly a playoff game between the two of them.

Longer shots

I don't think there are any other situations where a team has a clean win and your in, lose if you're out scenario - but I haven't done the math.  Darkhorse games live here if the above aren't crucial.

Dolphins vs Bills, Rams vs Cardinals, Bears vs Packers fall in here.  Other would-be playoff teams fall behind those.

Mortal locks to NOT be the game:

Patriots vs Jets, Oakland vs Denver, Kansas City vs LA Chargers, Seattle vs San Francisco.

What do you guys think?

I might give Rams-Cardinals a little better shot after the Rams loss, because that has a chance to be for the final Wild Card, no?

If there's no win and in, haven't they historically not had a night game?

Not even a no win and in, but almost has to be a scenario where both teams are guaranteed to have something to play for, regardless of what happens earlier in the day. Let's say Buffalo, Cleveland and Pittsburgh all win in Week 16. Then the Steelers are locked into the #3 seed no matter what happens. Could easily see them sit all their starters - and then Cleveland has to decide if they want to win to force a Wild Card game at Tennessee, or lose and face Pittsburgh again in the Wild Card round. Not gong to be compelling Prime Time TV

There's an outside chance Green Bay-Chicago could be a game in which Chicago makes the playoffs with a win vs Green Bay clinching the #1 seed with a win but maybe falling all the way to #3 with a loss.

That would require the Cardinals and Rams to lose this week. And then the GB-Chicago both needing to play for something would still be in effect regardless of who would win the Cards-Rams game earlier in the day on Week 17. Whereas if the GB-Chicago game were played earlier in Week 17, its outcome could render the Cards-Rams game essentially meaningless (like they're both in and just fighting for the 6th vs 7th seed)

So if I am not mistaken a Rams loss to Seattle would guarantee Rams/Cardinals game matters (at least for the Cardinals).  Cardinals would be in with a win and if the Bears beat the Packers then Rams va Cardinals is a play-in, no?

That said Eagles win plus Washington loss guarantees their meeting next week would be a play-in game.

These are now the clubhouse leaders by far.
