2021-22 Battle for Shining Path's Cup - Semifinal time!! (2 Viewers)

oh well, i have a reply from the commish.

hey, actually the league is doing fine, been running for 4 years now, we are currently in the 12th round of the draft. Even had an open spot but we filled it 3 weeks ago. Bloom is still playing as well as Rudnicki from the old crew. Got Matt Schauff to participate too, he does the weekly idp podcast with Sig during the season. Rest of the guys are randoms from the fbg forums mostly, like myself.
So, I'm dumb.

My little devil went to MFL last night while I was sleeping and started a new version of Goidpankal. Here's my thinking. Maybe we dip our toes in the pool, not get so crazy ala GoidOnRoids but hold to the original settings I think Andy played in. Since it's getting late 10 teams not 12.

1 qb not 2

1 te not 2

1 flex not 2

2rbs

3wrs

2dls not de dt bla bla

2lbs

2 dbs not cb s

2 flex (4lbs ftw)

8 O, 8 D, 16 starters, 22-23 rounds. Scoring with emphasis on idps to make defense potentially as valuable as offense just like the current roids settings, which you can find in that rosters link above. It's $90 for the site. $9 donations happily accepted, but equally happy to pay for the site to get it started.

@Andy Dufresne sorry for spamming this thread. :)  wanna do it? Any of you are super welcome. If you know idps, this will be different than most experiences. If you don't, great way to learn. I look at projections around the web and am even more clueless than ever. I'll just use the projections to draft guys I never heard of again.

Sorry, I didn't see that discussion until now.

Back to this league...

I've already lost Etienne & Dobbins. This is probably over before it began. Oof.

Just letting you guys know. Based on the direction these boards have been steered the past few years and the thread deletions and strict policing I have decided to quit utilizing this site.

The last straw was a recent thread that ended with Joe posting this: "We're in the busiest time of our year for trying to run our business. I normally see about .0001% of the posts. In August and September, I see about 00000001% of the non Shark Pool posts. If there is something over the line, please report the specific post and the moderators will try to look. Thank you. The other (probably better) idea is just shut everything but the NFL talk down for September."

So, I'm out. Just an FYI so that any league details can be communicated to me on Fleaflicker.

Sorry to hear that, Cold Dead Hands. I have been the recipient of a thread deletion or two and plenty of posting deletions. Some of it is due to temperament for sure; the others are sort of inexplicable and lead me to believe that there's been an embrace of a weird agenda around here. Of course, nothing is above the current climate, but it would seem that there are things up for debate that shouldn't be, and that it is due to a lack of fidelity to Enlightenment theory and the scientific method that are the philosophical underpinnings of our very society (when considered in their proper place, of course).

It's staggering and sort of heartbreaking to watch these opinions and false utterances hold sway with the public, and it filters down to the moderation of this board. I told Maurile the other day that I thought this was the beginning of the end of a long time here for me, that I appreciated the opportunity to have my voice heard for so long, but I wasn't understanding certain things. "Be excellent to each other" has turned into "kowtow with politeness no matter how foolish the statement or degraded the sentiment is." I don't know how much longer to abide that sort of relativism. rock out.

I hate to see you go. FWIW, I don't think Joe was calling you out in particular.  I'm not sure why that thread has continued to exist outside of PSF.  No one on either side is going to be swayed by a message board "conversation", so I don't engage in them.  For Joe's business, this is when they make the most money, so I think he just gets overwhelmed with reports, or then sees comments like that and probably thinks "Let's just shut it down".  The reason he doesn't is that is still at its root an amazing community.

I do understand you wanting to leave however, when confronted with what just seems like unfathomable ignorance and contempt.  The "bad" behavior exists on both sides, and I really do think Social Media is the worst addiction this world has ever seen.  It has led to just a complete decay in how people deal with each other, and while we used to call them "keyboard warriors", that mentality has now poured out into real life.  I worry about the future.

Thanks @Corporation.

Absolutely wasn't calling anyone out. That was clear.

A poster asked how we had a garbage thread and I replied as clearly as I know how:

"We're in the busiest time of our year for trying to run our business. I normally see about .0001% of the posts. In August and September, I see about 00000001% of the non Shark Pool posts. There seems to be a feeling that the moderators see most of the board. That simply isn't true. They see a tiny fraction. I see even less. That's why I have the constant plea asking people to report things they that are offensive and over the line.

The sad part is for whatever reason, the good that comes from the boards (and there's a lot) gets so outweighed by the negatives like this.

I ask people to report things they see over the line and that turns into the "last straw" and people are never coming back. I have other posters emailing they "hope my throat gets ####### slit" because they don't like the moderation. At some point, it becomes untenable and I'm afraid we may be there as the overwhelming sentiment is the boards just aren't the same and we do a terrible job.

It's super discouraging but I'm afraid that's reality.

I fully expect to click my bookmark one morning and go to...nowhere.  And after I type in footballguys.com the only forum available will be the Shark Pool.  Your task in unenviable, and I don't envy you one bit.  Unfortunately this board has become a reflection of social media, where the most vocal 5% (3%? 1%) make it miserable.  As long as it's operating I'll keep returning, but it is not hard to see the end in the not very distant future.

I can't imagine unless it's some sort of emergency shutting it down without notice though.

It's just become for me a thing where everyone is clearly so unhappy with the forums and even though there are lots of positives, the negatives are so huge at some point they become too much.

This is the last week of the regular season.

Two teams are already in the playoffs by virtue of winning their divisions -  @Corporation and @higgins

It gets interesting from there...

In Division 1, @Nathan R. Jessep and @Cold Dead Hands have identical records and both face patsies this week (I don't think I've ever drafted a worse team). If both win, I'll have to figure out the head-to-head results. Either of those teams could be out of the playoffs, however, as at this point @rodg12 is still in the game for a wild card as his total points so far are higher than either two of those teams. So there's some intrigue here!

In division 2 it's a similar story. @Keerock and @Chaos Commish could end up with the same record, then it would be a matter of head-to-head results. As for the total points qualifier, everyone is still in play for a spot! So @Chaos Commish could finish with an 8-6 record...yet still miss out on the playoffs.

In short...everyone is in play for a playoff position - except me! :sadtrombone:

Wild. Not sure how it works. Thought if I beat Keerock by more than ten then I'm in, but it sounds like the cutoff is different than the rules on Fleaflicker list. If it's total points that determines it (and not overall record with tiebreakers of head-to-head and then total score), then it goes Keerock, then me, then Touchdown Jesus for the last spot. And it's wicked close.

Crazy however you slice it. I'm just going to try and score the most points and hope everything sorts itself out.

Yes, our rules are the top two by record make it in then the next two by top score.

I'm going to do the latter part (top score) by division because it's more interesting that way - and I can't remember if we said the next two top scores "period".

So now I have to beat Kee by ten and beat facook, too. Interesting.

It's not a complaint though. It's a good way to do it. My team walked between the raindrops to have such a good record, but my points for is pretty bad. Good luck guys! :)

So if I win I have the 3rd best record and finish second in my division but will not qualify for the playoffs. :(
No. Win and you're in. The top two records in each division make it.

Lose AND Keerock wins AND Keerock wins the tie breaker, you're out because your total points will be too low.

Things were cut & dried in Division 2:
1. @higginsoVVn and Shoot - gets a bye

2. Shoeless Joes/ @Chaos Commish - next best record

3. Shutdown Corner/ @rockaction - next highest scoring team

It was a bit wonky in Division 1 to determine the #2 seed:

1. Beatdown Brigade - @Corporation

Week 1, @Nathan R. Jessep's Code Reds defeated @Cold Dead Hands's Couch Burners. But...

Week 12 Couch Burners beat Code Reds.

Since we didn't discuss tie breaker procedures, I made an executive decision and went by in-division record. So, the #2 seed is..

2. Couch Burners/ @Cold Dead Hands

3. Running Robots/ @rodg12

Playoff Bracket

Yeah, let's do this and do it proper. The top two teams have been the top two since the draft, in my estimation. The rest of us are just fighting along, treading water. Best of luck to everybody, though. May we be blessed with a surprise winner!

(Me being that winner, of course.)

Heh. Good luck to everybody, seriously.

Upset mania!

In a pair of contests where the scores were remarkably similar, the lower seed defeated the higher...

#5 Shutdown Corner defeats #4 Shoeless Joes by a score of 92.6 to 84.8

#6 Running Robots defeats #3 Couch Burners by a score of 91.34 to 87.32

Semifinals this week features #1 @higgins versus #5 @rockaction and #2 @Corporation versus #6 @rodg12

Let's gooooo!!!!

Aw yeah,

Brandin Cooks with the bailout of mediocrity!

This should be fun. Best of luck to everyone, hope the games are exciting!

Congrats to @rockaction for humbling my “upstart loaf” of a team & moving on to the SB — good luck.

Thanks, higgins. Most points for during the year is something to hang your hat on -- within almost any active league, that's quite an accomplishment.

I got a bit of luck this past week with some players going off a bit. rodg12's team looks a little strong for mine, so we shall see what it all brings.

See you in the music threads, man. Pleasure is mine.

161 points? Really? Was that necessary? I felt good with how I saw my players perform and saw I scored 127.  And lost by more than 30 :)

Good luck Rock and Rodg!

Oh, wow. I missed this today. Thanks for the bump, @Corporation. Congratulations to @rodg12! To the victors...

Andy, thanks for running the league. Towards the end, nothing fantasy-football wise would have been as cool as winning Shining Path's Cup. But not to be...

Semi-finals last year
Finals this year

Next year...

Maybe?

Keep us posted.
