2021-22 NBA Thread: Bill Simmons furiously recording 2.5 hour long pod about how Boston is still better than Golden State (2 Viewers)

Simmons is a great fit with Kyrie, KD, and Curry on the floor.  Let them score and he and Drummond defend.  And yea, Simmons at the 5 with all shooters will be dangerous too.  This was a good move for the Nets - getting Curry was a steal.
I certainly liked what I saw game 1 - and that was without Simmons, Kyrie and KD.....sounds stupid but this is a much more likeable team for me...I felt dirty rooting for them with Harden...and Ive been a Nets fan since Derrick Coleman's whoop de damn do days.

I'm trying to figure out what 538 sees in the Celtics that I and many others apparently don't. Boston is 538's highest rated team. They have the third highest chance of any team to make the finals at 27% (behind the Suns at 32% and the Suns at 31%). The Bucks are 18% to win the title with the Suns at 17% and the C's at 16%.

I can sort of see where 538 might think other than the Bucks the East doesn't have another clear standout team to go on a deep playoff run. But how does Boston have the highest rated team in the entire league? What am I missing?

538's rankings are a purely mathematical calculation.  There is something broken in their system if they think the Celtics have a greater than 1% chance of making the Finals.

Yep.  Follow the money/betting lines for the real odds.

Everyone has let down games. Just sucks when you lose one in the East right now and drop down to 5th. Need to get Harden on the floor.

Everyone knows I love to rag on 76ers fans but I don't get the national media today essentially blaming Philly fans on Ben Simmons "mental illness". We are a town that has supported Brandon Brooks and Lane Johnson in mental issues as well as others. Ben Was defended by even the most causal fan for yrs while people like myself and others were warning about what a fraud this guy was.

Ben Let the team and city down and when he was held accountable he cried about it. The team bent over backwards cheeks spread for this guy constantly. From people I talked to they described it more as the 76ers being rich Paul and Ben Simmon's little B****. When the 76ers finally started pushing back thats when Paul and Ben cried because Philly wasn't working for them anymore. Ben cried when people started holding him accountable. Despite this Joel and other teammates wanted to hash things out with Ben and welcome him back. Ben literally #### in their hands and told them F off. He then used mental illness a day after Bill Simmons suggested that one of the ways Ben could stop being fined for missing games and practices and now showing up is the fact he could use Mental illness or something similar to not get fined. People are questioning the timing of his excuse and if he really has it.

76ers fans didn't cause Mental illness for Simmons. He used something that is pretty big to game the system which is reprehensible. And the NBA should stop being a bunch of wussies grow a set and investigate this and suspend Ben if they find he never had a mental illness. I blame the 76ers for not doing more to investigate this and possible fine and terminate Ben's contract for Conduct Detrimental. If that didn't work I'd have asked Sacremento what their best trade offer was and accepted it and told Ben see ya. The 76ers don't escape accountability for the situation but for the media who was going after ben here to do a 180 and defend this guy when he gets to NYC is just another reason why many sports fans in the US think our sports media is a joke.

I don't believe you.

Also Djackson come to the NBA roster draft and rank the teams. Any of the rest of you dorks are welcome as well. Just PM your rankings. We drafted teams with the assumption Covid doesn't exist, there are no injuries or salary cap, and we are only playing to win a championship this year. Future is irrelevant.

Celtics streak is broken by the Pistons who shot 53% from 3.

They really need Marcus Smart healthy after the AS break.

Anthony Davis just broke his ankle I think.  Screaming in pain and pushing himself backwards on the ground. Never a good sign

Knicks are just an FN mess.

Team's terrible. Thibs still playing all the vets despite being absolutely horrible. :lmao:

Nice   Bulls get a big for free they really needed.

@TheSteinLine·Tristan Thompson to leave Pacers via buyout and sign with Bulls, sources tell Pacers coach Rick Carlisle.

Reason why I really only wanted them to either get an elite/top tier big.....or none at all. Quality bigs are a dime a dozen, come cheap and can get a solid 15-25mpg. No reason to go for an middle of road overpaid big on a long term deal like Richaun Holmes as a backup for that very reason.

Blazers 4-0 since dealing McCollum.  Including wins @Mil @Mem and vs. LA.

Hart and Simons look fantastic in the backcourt. Simons gonna get himself paid this offseason. One of the league's rising breakout stars. Always been able to score at will. Becoming a better overall player now.

I think Blazers planned on tanking. That Simons-Hart looks too good IMO and Nurkic has become a bigger part of that offense in the process.

Lillard might want to be in Portland. I deal him this offseason. No ifs, ands or buts about it. He and his Blazers had their run. They'll get a bounty for him and they can move on to Simons.

That looked rough but reports are that its a sprain.  If it keeps him out for an extended period, they may not even make the playoffs.

What a finish. Nuggets win at buzzer in GS Jokic to Morris for the dagger.

There's not a player that'd be in Jokic's position right now and team but anywhere close as good. Lot of great MVP candidates this year but as much as one wants to talk up other candidates.......there's no comparison to what Jokic is doing with that team.

This isn't good news for the 76ers iMHO. They need a guy like TT to take the minutes off Joel and keep him fresh come playoff time as well as a reliable big who could start a few games down the stretch if Joel were to get hurt. Good pick up by CHI here on the cheap though. If its TT and Dragic coming in and no trades and PWill coming back at the end of the year perfectly fine with it.

Honestly believe if healthy this could be one of the two teams repping the East in the Conference finals.

Good for CHI since the pick is top 15 protected I believe

It looked like Steph went to double-team Jokic instead of following Morris out to the three-point line.

It's disappointing because they were so fun to watch last season. Randle got paid and turned back into a pumpkin and they just don't have any star power anywhere outside of potentially Barrett. You are correct at this point the young guys should be getting minutes but that's just not Thibs style. I'm guessing Thibs is gone at season's end.

Watching the Nets/Knicks last pm Im feeling even better about the trade - not going crazy as the Knicks are a mess and obviously Harden was the best player in the deal but it seems like the chemistry is so much better without him.  Removing him seems to have put a chip on the Nets players and hopefully gives them energy to make a run - cant wait to see this team with  KD, Kyrie and Simmons.

I think it's pretty clear that Jokic is the best floor raiser in the NBA, and one of the better floor raisers of all time. He probably wouldn't be my pick if I had a team of studs around him, but I'm very confident, like you, that there is not a better player for that team than Jokic.

If Murray comes back he'll immediately improve the team substantially, even in a diminished state - initially, Murray and Morris should be close to a wash, but pushing Hyland out of the rotation and keeping Facu way out of the rotation is a huge upgrade. I'm a little less optimistic about MPJ if he comes back soon, but by playoff time, he could be huge.

My fingers are also crossed for Gary Harris to hit the buyout market. Replacing Hyland, Rivers, Jamychal Green with Murray, Harris, MPJ would be ####### massive.

The DeMarcus Cousins led Nuggets are 8-0 when he plays. He's been objectively pretty bad (maybe really really bad) BUT I also think he is a legitimate reason for why they are playing well with him. In the begining of the 2nd and 4th quarters he is drawing an ### load of fouls that completely changes the last 6 minutes of each half for the team, especially Jokic.

Yep.  Terrible defense.  Steph has these mental breakdowns on D far too often.  Can’t happen.  No idea why they don’t coach this out of him.
The dude's 33, I don't think anyone's coaching him out of anything at this point.

So dumb to watch guys miss the same dunk 4-5 times in a row
After seeing “Dunk League” makes this spectacle even more cringe.

Right off the bat watching Cole Anthony take 8 minutes to put on boots and then proceed to miss 4 tries in a row was awful.

After watching that joke of a performance, I showed my daughter some Wilkins and Jordan contests so she could see what the Slam Dunk competition used to be about.

I’m not sure the dunk contest can be fixed at this point.  It seems like we’ve seen it all before — even the gimmicky stuff.

In the rising stars games, they played to a score (first to 50) instead of a clock.

Wouldn’t that be better for the game overall? Play first to 120. They could still have a shot clock and quarters (first to 30). Every game would end on a game winning shot and it would mostly eliminate the intentional fouling/free throws at the end as well as dribbling out a clock.

Not true.  Go check out Dunk League or Jordan Kilganon & Isaiah Rivera.   There are new ideas and possibilities….the NBA guys just can’t do them.

I'm so glad the TNT crew #### on it as much as they did last night. Not sure what some of these guys were even in it. Why Wasn't Lavine in it (I think Ray Allen mentioned a dunk by Green and said if Lavine did that dunk it's a not as good because he can do better). Judges seemed annoyed by the missed attempts too. Maybe a better pt system and maybe make teams.

For example and I know some of these guys aren't dunkers so bear with me here

Cole Anthony And Jalen Suggs

Lavine and Derrick Jones JR

Toppin and KD

Again not all dunkers but it's to make a point here. Have them work in teams each guy take a round and you combine the scores at the end. Final dunk you put your best dunker vs the other groups best dunker with the highest score. Winner of that is crowned champ

Yeah the dunk contest today is way too drama driven and hey look at me. I hope you showed her the Aaron Gordon/Zach LaVine one too.
