Hawks beat Hornets in the 9-10. 

Cavs lost to Nets in 7-8.

7-8 loser players 9-10 winner for the 8-seed.

Cavs vs Hawks. Clippers vs Pels.

Ah ok, had no idea that's how it worked.  Thought it was any team that one once in the play ins were in.  And the 2 teams that went 0-2 in the play-ins were out.

The national media is the only one pushing that narrative. There was an interview with Zion's stepfather last week that didn't get NEARLY as much attention as his warmup dunks, etc., where his stepfather said directly that Zion himself , nor any of his close family members, have ever once said that he doesn't want to be In Nola. There was the whole fiasco with him rehabbing away from the team, but umm, we have another player that has been doing that for months now and not a word about it. Because he's not the superstar status that Zion is, so not as many clicks. 

ETA: I do still contend that Zion needs a better PR agent. That likely still wouldn't stop the noise though. Bc hot takes. lol

Yeah its set up so 7-8 have an advantage. 9-10 has to win twice, 7-8 only need one win. 

 
I'm conflicted about my rooting interests tonight. Cavs lose and they get their #1 pick back from the LaVert trade. But win and there is playoff experience to be gained. And as we all know there is a massive difference between playoff and regular season basketball. This is a young team that needs that experience, but it also needs more depth next year so they're better equipped to handle a wave of injuries like this year.

For what its worth, I picked the Hawks to win.  I think Young is too good for them to contain and the Cavs are just not quite there yet as a team.  They looked pretty lost at times vs. the Nets and it wasn't just Kyrie/Durant.  Their offense sputtered against the Nets poor defense and their late game double teams and rotations were poorly executed leading to easy buckets to close them out.  I think it will be a good game, and if Allen plays I could see Cleveland winning, but the Hawks have been here and done that already as a team and looked really good against Charlotte.

The team hasn't played together in months, so we weren't surprised Tuesday and expect the same tonight. The team we've been watching over the last several weeks is not anything like the one from early in the season. Hyperbolic, but that iteration of the team was a work of art and the accumulating injuries slammed on the brakes. No reason to believe they couldn't get back to where they were, but just isn't enough time now. Excited for next year though.

Zion (and his camp) don’t have to say that he doesn’t want to be in New Orleans to say that he doesn’t want to be in New Orleans.  Sometime a lack of communication says plenty.  Either he and his camp are incredibly oblivious as to how his actions/inactions are being perceived in the media, or they’re providing a message without having to say a thing.  I know which way I lean.  This is a fascinating situation to follow, that’s for sure.

I get it, bc you are hearing what the media is putting out. But I'm telling you there are ZERO indications that he doesn't want to be there. They have always said the opposite, in fact. Go listen to the interview last week. Also, media perception itself means zilch in the grand scheme of what actually happens. It's just something to talk about, which is their business. 

Legit question... I'm curious why you lean, other than seeing clickbait in the media?

I guess if I were the new face of a franchise and potentially one of the leagues biggest megastars, and I truly wanted to be that guy for my franchise, then you bet your ### I would be presenting myself to those very same media members at the first whispers of me not feeling that way.  Instead, Zion has essentially remained hidden for a year.   Why?  

It’s idiotic that he hasn’t responded loudly. If he has, then I’ve definitely missed it.  You can claim that he has no obligation to do so, but why wouldn’t you?  Again, if the rumors were baseless and you loved New Orleans, wanted to lead the Pels, and were planning to be their superstar for the next decade, just GD hold a single press conference and proclaim that for the world to hear.  It’s a terrible approach to hide out and ignore #### like that in the most public professional league in the United States and expect that narrative to dissipate.  To say that “media perception means zilch” is pretty blind to the fact that’s the NBA is a media driven league.  Zion has done himself zero favors by remaining in the shadows.

 I don't disagree with a lot of your points, and have said for months he needs better PR. I do wonder why the coach/team hasn't said more than a few words here and there, BUT there is also still a season going on so they have to (and have) focus on winning.  And no I'm not blind, but it's also naïve to say that just because the media collectively says/thinks something, it's what will come to pass. They get it wrong a lot in this age of hot takes. That's all I'm saying. When it's national media vs people close to the team, I'm going with people close to the team. That's why I lean the I lean in regards to this, and until I hear otherwise from those close to the team, that's where I'll stay. I'm still not convinced we shouldn't deal Zion when he's healthy, and let someone else worry about his ongoing injury worries. Willing to give him one more chance to stay healthy, although I think if he has another serious injury, his trade value will take a big hit.

I’m not saying that he wants out, only that it’s terrible business to not counter that media narrative if it’s false.

I hope that he gets healthy, remains healthy, and fulfills his immense potential.  The fact that the Pels can offer Zion a rookie max extension bodes well for their chances of keeping him, and if he gets reasonably healthy I think odds are good that he remains in New Orleans for a decent amount of his career.

that is a real innurestin 5 there in Cle, w the 3 bigs across and a real 2 to go w Garland. they still dont run any plays but folks seem to pop open on mismatches. should be able to exploit it defensively, but Artis-lookin Jarett gets in the way pretty good

That was a bad trade.  Not only did they give up their 1st they gave up the 1st pick of the 2nd round as well.  NBA teams don't value 2nd round picks.  Sure wish Rubio never got hurt.  Cavs were blowing teams out by 20+ with him and they would have never needed to do that trade.

 
If Cavs lose they do get their 1st round pick back this year (2.4% chance of being top 4 otherwise pick 14) but they also will lose their 1st round pick next year if they make the playoffs.

I sure would like Rubio back but not likely to happen considering Caris Levert is on the books for $18.8 million

I expect Rubio back and LeVert to be traded.

 
Kevin Love only played 10 minutes tonight and the way he has been hitting the 3 lately a little surprising.

 
Cavs have some nice pieces but aren't competing for anything with a Lauri-Mobley-Allen frontline. Lauri looks like he's on skates when you get him on the perimeter defensively. Team will get abused time after time on high picks.

Good core with franchise blocks in Garland-Mobley, solid center in Allen. Need to work on 2-3. Lavert's a solid 6th man on a good team. Just not a good complimentary player. Lauri's a 4 or 5 with his defensive limitations on perimeter.

Looks like Love-Lauri-Levert on the books for 22-23. All solid NBA players. Just don't think they're great fits as starters in Cleveland.

 
About 2 months ago the Cavs were 1 game out of 1st place.  The streak continues no playoffs without LeBron since 1998.

Maybe we hit a top 4 lottery pick and we will look back at this being a blessing.

Hopefully they find a way to hit with the draft pick now that they have it back but picking at 14 its not likely.

 
Trae needs to be respected as one of the leagues 5-10 best players. No Collins, No capella for the second half, traded Reddish away for basically nothing—and ends up single handedly beating a Cavs teams with lots of pieces—garland, Allen was back, Mobley was back, Markanen was playing well, levert...etc..the kid is remarkable.

Don't need a lotto pick hit. We have the core. It's about adding an effective role player then shuffling up veteran support. 

 
Love the play-in games. Hope they do an in-season tournament if they can find the right formula to make it valuable.

Anything is better than what All Star weekend has become (particularly dunk contest)

Such a fun player to watch.  Reminds me of Iverson at times - little guy who carries a team without much help.

 
What a run and win by Pellies  Fun Game. So interesting these games and best play with the starting centers out.  Why absolutely foolish to spend for non-elite centers. 

@Capellawas -21 before going down (team worst)

Allen was a non-factor for Clev 

Jonas was -12 (team worst) / Smaller more athletic Nance Jr (+13) was HUUUUUGE

Zubac -4  (completely irrelevant in game)

Congrats to the Pellies!!!!
