2021-22 NBA Thread: Bill Simmons furiously recording 2.5 hour long pod about how Boston is still better than Golden State (1 Viewer)

I am okay with the traveling or half step that they don't call. This is part of the reason why the NFL and NBA have gained popularity in the last 30 years and baseball and hockey have declined.

The NBA and NFL have adapted their rules to showcase skill and give fans what they want. The MLB and NHL have their a hardcore purist that refuse to change much and their popularity is diminishing.
To be fair, there are only like five people here that understand the NBA traveling rule and ~90% of the non-calls that the casuals whine about are clean moves.

I am not sure. If I had that answer I wouldn't be posting on this message board for free, but there are a lot of well payed people in the NHL that know the sport better than I do that should be coming up with that answer because it seems like the popularity of the NHL has been decreasing for like 10 years or more now.
If you’re not sure, then it seems weird that you specifically seem to indicate that the reason popularity has decreased is because they haven’t changed rules in order to highlight skills.

I think it’s more likely that people just don’t care about traveling more than it highlights skills. And I don’t think the way they call traveling has any impact on viewership at all really, other than maybe it keeps the game moving more which is something that baseball definitely has a problem with.

I also said it was a part of them problem. Not the whole problem.

Crowder with an immediate cheap shot on Luka. No call.

Luka can't stop being a child and gets himself T'd up. cannot do that. Picks up a bull#### foul on the other end where again Crowder is the one shoving him.

Finally calms down, takes a charge.

He HAS to get this #### under control. Channel that energy into something meaningful. You know Kane Fitzgerald's crew is reffing, and you know he alone gave Luka 5 techs in 4 games this year. In 78 other games, Luka had 10 techs. You know the crew, you know what's going to happen, be an adult and don't fall into the trap AGAIN.

That was a block not a charge, not even close. Money should have challenged it to really get in Luka's head.
Legal guarding position, contact initiated by offensive player...like many block/charge calls, it could go either way and I doubt it's overturned no matter what the original call was.

ETA: If anything, it was a flop and shoulda been a no call.

Tech on Booker for following through on the shot as far as I can tell. This game is already  a ref-show. Let people play basketball.

Powell doesn't foul Booker anyway (bad call, only contact is Booker with an unnatural move) and Booker's arm following through makes very little contact (also bad call). Just horrendous to watch. Lemme see Booker cook people and Luka bully guys and Bridges and Dorian play D. So dumb.

2 uninterrupted moments and we got a beautiful everyone-touched-the-ball Mavs possession, a textbook Paul-Ayton PnR...

Luka does the CP rip through (which is bull#### and shouldn't be called) but I'm excited to see it called for CP later LMAO. If they don't call it ever again I'd be so happy.

1. I LOVE seeing all the open threes and how they go in.

2. That's the only reason we're up. So I'm not optimistic about the rest of the game.

3. If Bertans from the first quarter can reappear for the rest of his contract, and be the guy who shot 4/9 EVERY GAME from three for the Wizards, that'll go a long way to opening up this offense when Luka sits.

That was an impressive quarter to tack onto the last game. Dallas extended their D at the end of the game 2 loss. It was too little too late but it worked and has worked ever since.

Good half by Dallas. The shooting was unreal and the defense was great in the first quarter.

IMO if this is any other team but the Suns they are 20+ in this game.

Very interesting challenge. I thought they specifically outlawed the "PG dribbles in front of you and stops in the backcourt so you run into him" foul. But maybe I'm misremembering.

They did. It is pretty much the Chris Paul rule. Which is why he didn't seem to be upset. Probably challenged because it was his 5th foul.

Is waving the finger for a replay going to be the next annoying player thing? Seems like a lot of players are doing it and none if them seem to realize you only get 1 a game.

Lol I was gonna say 3500. Probably worth a swing at that price.
yeah, it's just for fun. i have no rooting interest with LA out, and like others, watching underdogs win is fun for me. i do like that dallas had the best record in the conference since the all-star break. 1/2 game from best in the league.  i do like that they have a force of nature like Luka. and i am really impressed with the results from the higher pressure extended defense.

used to be able to watch a baseball game in like 2:20 - 2:30

now it's a nearly 4 hour slog. in an era where attention spans are 30 seconds are less, i don't know what rules they could change to make it work anymore.

1. Razor blades imbedded in the ball.

2. Can throw the ball at the runner and if you hit him it's an out.

3. 1 pitch per batter - strike is an out, ball is a walk.

4. 5 bases.

5. Random ponds, rocks, trees, etc. in the outfield.

That's just five simple changes to make the sport more fun to watch. Hater.

2-min report for Bucks/Celtics confirmed that it was the correct call and that Smart was NOT in the act of shooting. Also showed that not only did Jrue NOT push off on Bucks’ last possession, but there was actually a missed foul against Tatum for grabbing Jrue’s arm as he was falling down (causing Jrue to lose control of his dribble).

Ime Udoka:  "We invite that physicality and don’t want to be the team crying about it.”

Also Ime Udoka:  "So gotta teach my guys to flop a little more.”

it is funny seeing how physical they were smacking KD around, and already the next series it goes opposite direction

Was out of town this weekend so I hadn't seen the Jordan Poole/Ja Morant play until just now. How in the WORLD can anyone think that was a dirty play?

I don't get it either.  I think Morant was just frustrated when he tweeted and everyone else piled on to ride the wave/get views.  He barely touched his knee after going for a steal 🤷‍♂️.  It's a shame Morant is probably out for Game 4.

Even with Memphis going like 20 - 2 this year without Morant him missing game 4 likely means the end of Memphis's season. Gotta blame something.
