I know it’s a day or so late, but clearly the Lightning and Panthers are picking up where they left off, fights galore after Florida tries running the best goalie in the game, and gets punched in the face for being stupid.

wow, knew he was going to get paid but he got term and top dollar

@FriedgeHNIC: Hearing Barkov extension comes in at 8x$10M, with majority coming in signing bonuses. Panthers step up and keep their captain.

@charlieo_conn: Ovechkin delivered a pretty crushing hit on a Flyers breakout, but he got the worst of it. He's limping pretty heavily going down the Capitals tunnel to the locker room. Yikes.

What's with the Rangers and not choosing a captain.  Seems strange to have six alternates.  Kind of overkill.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the contract of Zibanejad.  8 x 8.5 seems very reasonable for a guy with his skillset.  He should have another 5-6 years of top quality play ahead of him.

Bolts put Barre-Boulet on waivers, he gets claimed by the Kraken. Would have liked to have him back, but those are the breaks.

Cup run No. 3 starts tonight against Pittsburgh in Amalie.

Apparently it was skating ability that kept him off the team.  I'm not sure where he fits in Sea.

Are they doing covid taxi squads again?

Habs lock up suzuki for 8 year extension about 7.9 per.

A gamble on a young player but all signs are that he'll be a great nhler. They're obviously confident he'll continue to improve and didn't want to wait and have to pay Marner money.

Character kid and a (likely) future captain.

He wasn’t a fit defensively. Had to play basically on the top line and that certainly wasn’t going to happen.

Vitali Kravstov (NYR) - 9th overall pick few years back.  doesn't make team, refuses to report to Hartford and has now requested a trade...

what's with so many players entering protocol?  I thought the whole leeg was vaccinated?  are they violating rules or are there that many positive tests coming back?

if lias andersson netted a 2, kravtsov will have a market.  not sure what the guy did, outside of being drafted, to make the team.  sometimes you gotta earn stuff.

this is the 2nd time he's reacted like this.   disappointing that it appears our scouts didn't flesh out this immaturity before drafting him.

I searched Oliver Wahlstrom's (NYI) name on Twitter a few days ago and every mention was from Rangers/Islanders fans #####ing to each other about whether Wahlstrom or Kravstov was the better pick in that draft (largely because Wahlstrom said the Rangers made a mistake passing on him at 9, allowing the Isles to get him at 12). I guess Wahlstrom was right and that won't be a thing any more.

I actually liked Joel Farabee better than both of them at that draft.  went #14 to the Flyers.

edit: i think i was in the minority though,  if i recall it was either Kravstov or Wahlstrom that most thought it would be between.

So if NYP is to be believed the dude expected to be in the Top-6?  Is he not aware of the other young players on that team?...

LOL at LA with 91.  The rest were pretty solid.  SJ is pretty awful also.

I think there were at most 5 unvaccinated players.  Could be breakthrough cases.

Boston and NJ switching divisions for the playoffs?

EDIT: Nevermind..found this on NHL.com.  Interesting way to do it this year:

Playoff Format

16 teams will qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The format is a set bracket that is largely division-based with wild cards. The top three teams in each division will make up the first 12 teams in the playoffs. The remaining four spots will be filled by the next two highest-placed finishers in each conference, based on regular-season record and regardless of division. It is possible for one division in each conference to send five teams to the postseason while the other sends just three. In the First Round, the division winner with the best record in each conference will be matched against the wild-card team with the lesser record; the wild card team with the better record will play the other division winner. The teams finishing second and third in each division will meet in the First Round within the bracket headed by their respective division winners. First-round winners within each bracket play one another in the Second Round to determine the four participants in the Conference Finals. Home-ice advantage through the first two rounds goes to the team that placed higher in the regular-season standings. In the Conference Finals and Stanley Cup Final, home-ice advantage goes to the team that had the better regular-season record – regardless of the teams' final standing in their respective divisions.
