*** 2021/22 Stanley Cup NHL Thread **** Congrats 2022 Avs Cup Champs! (2 Viewers)

rangers theoretically know they are 1-2 years away and won’t gut assets, but i’d assume georgiev, zac jones, lundqvist, quitsov and their #1 could be in play.  maybe that lands them some rentals.  i don’t think any of those players are long term holds.  the top 4 d are set and i get the feeling the players dislike georgiev.
they should go get JT Miller

too pricey and 1 player doesn’t put them over the top.
Maybe too pricey, but I definitely think this is exactly the kind of player they need - although a center would be a better fit.

And I don't get that 1 player doesn't put them over the top.  Over the top of what?

If the RAngers get a top 6 forward they can roll out four solid lines.  Their 3rd line could be a Chytil/Goodrow/Laffy or Kakko line which would be a good balance, and their 4th line has been solid all year.  Their 1st and 2nd lines are good enough and have been producing all year.  I agree with Acer that the 3rd line has been an issue because Gallant is tinkering with it every game.  Rangers need to stop rolling out the likes of Brodzinski, Gauthier, Hunt, McKegg every friggin game - these guys should be spot starters at best.  Rangers have 3-4 AHL guys every game in their lineup, it's kind of time to put up or shut up.

In my eyes there are a clear top 4 teams in the NHL, with one wild card

TB, Carolina, Florida, Colorado and Vegas is my wild card as they've been crushed with injuries all year.

Rangers are in that pack of 5-6 teams right behind these.  With 1 more solid contributor, a good and deep blue line and Shesterkin in net, I'd be fine going up against any team in a playoff series right now.  Yes, they are a young team, but Kreider and Panarin are both over 30 now.  Mika and Strome are both 28.   Unless you are fortunate enough to get a guy like Crosby to play 15 years on the same team with an extended level of excellence, you need to strike while the irons hot so to speak.  Rangers are not really in a cap position where they can take on multiple contracts while retaining their core youth.  No reason to gut their system so to speak, but they are certainly within a reasonable shot to make a run in the playoffs this year.

WTF? I'm so done with them

@NHLFlyers: OFFICIAL: We have re-signed defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen to a five-year contract extension worth an average annual value (AAV) of $5.1M. https://www.nhl.com/flyers/news/flyers-re-sign-rasmus-ristolainen-to-five-year-extension--philadelphia-flyers/c-331665110

@DarrenDreger: Some wondering if Risto extension opens the door to a Travis Sanheim trade either before the deadline or in the offseason.  He would be pretty high on a few teams target lists.  Left shot, $4.675 cap hit through next season. https://twitter.com/darrendreger/status/1501931141141565440

when i say over the top, i mean that 1 player that makes them the it team.  they really are short a RW1 and a RW 2 since i don’t really think kaako and laffy are those guys now nor will they be this year in the playoffs.  the bottom six outside of goodrow has been in flux.  the 3rd line should really be a checking line, but guathier and chytil aren’t those types of players.  i would like hunt on the 3rd line, having him skate with strome and panarin is just awful.  so, to me, miller improves them, but he doesn’t guarantee they win a round IMO.

The Kings have been quite surprising so far this year.  I expected them to be a year or two away from even sniffing real opportunity but they keep plugging away and have been awesome on the road.  Injuries are starting to mount up a bit as they have just lost Lemieux, Aarvidson, and Mikey Anderson in three consecutive games.  All have played outstanding this year.

I was thinking there would be no reason for them to be heavily involved at the trade deadline but maybe they are close enough to at least make a minor splash to keep the momentum going.  I think they need another defenseman and many places keep putting out Chychrun but not sure if he is the right piece.  I also think they need another scorer (doesn't everyone).  They have a great pipeline right now and I don't want to waste that by giving it away for rentals but there is enough depth that they might be able to get one of these pieces.

What is an outsider's thoughts?

ETA:  UGH........now hearing Doughty is likely out tonight.

Vegas is struggling. Not sure how that team loses to Philly and Buffalo back to back. That 1st round pick looking pretty nice at the moment.

Pretty fun game last night. Eichel turning into a villain is not exactly what I expected but he's making it hard for the people who defended him all along to stick around.

Kings had to play Sunday with 7 starters out and were able to beat the Panthers.  I believe the Kings have lost someone to IR each of the last 4 or 5 games (Lemieux, Arvidson, Roy, Brown, Bjornfoot, Doughty, Athanasiou).  Amazing string of injuries.  I have never seen that many lumped all together in such a short time.

@frank_seravalli: Full trade:

To #FlaPanthers: Ben Chiarot

To #Habs: 2023 1st round pick, 2022 4th round pick, prospect Ty Smilanic

MTL is retaining half of Chiarot’s salary.

Panthers have already dealt their 2022 1st and 2nd plus their 2023 1st and their 2024 2nd now.

Not sure what kind of package they could put together for Giroux at this point.

Just spitballing here but trading Giroux just after Game 1000 for Spencer Knight and setting off a goalie controversy would be the most Flyer thing ever.

Why on earth would the Panthers trade Knight for a few games of Giroux. They don’t even need him unless they are just getting him to face off against Colorado in finals.

A) He has been sent down to AHL for 11 starts this year and has a .905 save pct in each league.

2) Bobrovsky has 4 more years in an untradeable contract

C) A local reporter said that the Chiarot trade did not rule them out of Giroux. What else would they trade with an empty draft pick stockroom?

3.14) Did you see the Chiarot trade? They're all in

Omega) Hey, I said I was spitballing

@AntSanPhilly: THREAD: Claude Giroux is not accompanying the @NHLFlyers to Ottawa. He is staying back while Chuck Fletcher puts the finishing touches on a trade.

A deal is not yet final, but I'm told it's going to be with the Florida Panthers.

@AntSanPhilly: @NHLFlyers Owen Tippett was held out of the Charlotte (AHL) game tonight. According to @DarrenDreger that could have been in anticipation of a trade for Giroux.

The other name I heard was Florida's first round pick from last year Mackie Samoskevich.

@AntSanPhilly: @NHLFlyers Might there be more to the deal? Might there be money involved? A draft pick? Another player?  Might Chuck be still working out specifics with Florida that could change the players involved? Certainly. All of that is possible . So until there is a final trade call, this is fluid.

If the Flyers had a competent GM, I'd suspect that was an intentional leak to drive up the Avs price.

Alas, that is probably too much to ask.

The Blackhawks have traded Brandon Hagel and two fourth-round picks (2022 and 2024) to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for two first-round draft picks (2023 and 2024), forward Boris Katchouk and forward Taylor Raddysh,

ETA

Not sure I agree with this. looks like the money evens out but the Bolts lose short term depth going into the playoffs and I don't like that. I'm guessing JBB just didn't see Raddysh or Kutchouk as possible future core replacement parts.

Trade call has not happened yet so nothing officially done, but sounds like a big haul for the Ducks in exchange for Hampus Lindholm if the deal goes through with Boston: a 1st-Rd pick this year, 2nd RD pick in 23, 2nd RD pick in 24 plus young roster player…

meh

@frank_seravalli: Awaiting confirmation, trade call not completed, but sounds like basis of package #Flyers are getting is 2024 1st round pick, 2023 3rd round pick and Owen Tippett for Claude Giroux.

I am so loving this with one of the top rated systems already...

All this for players that had 20 games left on their contracts.
