Maybe too pricey, but I definitely think this is exactly the kind of player they need - although a center would be a better fit.
And I don't get that 1 player doesn't put them over the top. Over the top of what?
If the RAngers get a top 6 forward they can roll out four solid lines. Their 3rd line could be a Chytil/Goodrow/Laffy or Kakko line which would be a good balance, and their 4th line has been solid all year. Their 1st and 2nd lines are good enough and have been producing all year. I agree with Acer that the 3rd line has been an issue because Gallant is tinkering with it every game. Rangers need to stop rolling out the likes of Brodzinski, Gauthier, Hunt, McKegg every friggin game - these guys should be spot starters at best. Rangers have 3-4 AHL guys every game in their lineup, it's kind of time to put up or shut up.
In my eyes there are a clear top 4 teams in the NHL, with one wild card
TB, Carolina, Florida, Colorado and Vegas is my wild card as they've been crushed with injuries all year.
Rangers are in that pack of 5-6 teams right behind these. With 1 more solid contributor, a good and deep blue line and Shesterkin in net, I'd be fine going up against any team in a playoff series right now. Yes, they are a young team, but Kreider and Panarin are both over 30 now. Mika and Strome are both 28. Unless you are fortunate enough to get a guy like Crosby to play 15 years on the same team with an extended level of excellence, you need to strike while the irons hot so to speak. Rangers are not really in a cap position where they can take on multiple contracts while retaining their core youth. No reason to gut their system so to speak, but they are certainly within a reasonable shot to make a run in the playoffs this year.
